30,000 foot view, bickering can come from a desire to create or respond to bickering, or it can come from just plain differences of opinion.
Meh never mind, was about to go deep into stuff I only half-believe. lets stick to good things I can quantify -
The POF was crazy & a lot of fun & that was before Trump & dementia Joe.
Ian would need metal detector at the POF door these days.
yeah... I've thought often that skipping the last 5 or 6 years probably saved us all from seeing a board-generated Immasay,
headline. But this country over the last few years has become what the PoFo was when it was shut down. And since there's no PoFo, yayyyyy, we don't have to figure out here how
that could have happened.
Ian, something I hope you can please help keep a lid on this season: There's an element here that goes overboard trying to shame "homers" for allegedly being unrealistic or not critical enough. These self-fashioned football "experts" are more invested in stoking their own egos and pushing agendas (usually anti-BB, anti-Kraft, etc.) vs. acknowledging positives. I had a bellyful of that nonsense last year, especially from the Buccaneers fan contingent that gleefully swoops in whenever the Pats, or especially our quarterback, are struggling. I'll never forget a certain "God of Wrath" insisting we Patriots fans "pump the breaks" on lauding Mac Jones when the kid showed early promise. Seems Mac apparently was undeserving, at least to some, since his initials weren't T.B. That stuff needs to end.
Seriously. It's just trolling. Brady's probably my favorite player too, but in year 1 he didn't beat anybody but Michael Bishop. Just stfu about Mac Jones, who put up 3800 yards and 22 TDs his rookie year -- okay, and 13 int. Point is, there is no need for Mac Jones to somehow be less than he is for Tom Brady to be what he is. There is no need for BB to suck for TFB to be the GOAT QB.
I mean, it's good for his personal ego and his stans for him to get 1 ring with TB. That's nice. If he gets another 5, I wouldn't be unhappy, although I don't think that happens. The issues around one more tour with Brady were about his interests versus OUR interests, putting of course the franchise in the place of some minority of the fan base. I mean, what else can you do? There's no secret "real Patriots" playing in the invisible NFL, it is what it is. The Patriots have a QB, his name is Mac Jones, and to this point in his career, he's pretty good. He doesn't
have to be better than Brady, but as it happens, for his first year in the league, he was. Oh by the way, Mac's also better than Brady was in his second season, 2001, although since the defense carried TFB to a Super Bowl in 01-02, and since he's the GOAT in general, we don't think of it that way.
Don't get me wrong, I can pretty much guarantee that the Brady Stans in Bradystan, TompaBaydystan, will be happy in the end. Mac's unlikely to be remembered as the better QB. Anybody shooting for that record will find that time and a 32-team league are brutal enemies.
Remember how Tom was supposed to be "passing the baton" to that guy in KC? What's his name? Mahomes? 5 years under his belt, only 1 SB? Need to pick up the pace, unless the baton we're passing is really the Peyton Manning irrelevant stat whore baton. And that goes to my previous point about stats - the ring matters so much more. You need both to be among the greats, but piling stats upon stats upon stats will not make Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Manning the "real GOAT." Feel good, Bradystan. Your cultic leader is secure.
But I'm just a Pats fan who was so happy to see Brady be the GOAT for
my team for 20 year, that it's just pathetic to see a few ashhats or pewter hats or whatever that color is, trying to make it Brady VS New England, or VS some poor shmuck 2nd year QB, or VS his ex head coach (or for the really slick ones, sometimes, his offensive coordinator? I don't really understand that personality wrinkle, just weird to me.)
That said, for right now, head to head, Mac vs. Brady? Brady's losing. (I doubt it ends up that way, but I find that factoid hilarious.)
