State of the Board Discussion [Moved to Here]

Not open for further replies.
My only real take about the new thread topic is that however flawed this community may be, it's still by far the best place to learn about Patriots football on the internet. With the way Reddit and the various social media platforms have started to form an oligopoly on topic-based online discussion, we need to keep sites like this alive rather than blow it all up.

Some people are just not happy with their lives, don't have any or many friends and their unhappiness is projected here with the team. Their constant negativity is a red flag and it gets worse when they see people here that are not wallowing in their own muck. Their negativity is not fun for the forum but asking them to change...I don't think they can do that.
Indeed.

In real life I have a name for friends who had strong negativity that I attempted to change but could not: former friends. Here on PatsFans the name for them is Ignored Users. Life is too short to be dragged down to their level. I try to point out things I see, their reactions show me they just aren't ready, willing or able to climb out of their sea of negativity, I silently wish them well and move on.

It's a concept those in recovery will be familiar with:

I occasionally hit the "show ignored content" button to see if I've made the wrong decision, and really, almost never decide whatever gain some posts provide is worth the pain.

I very much agree. I've also used Ignore on a select few here. When the forum becomes less informative and enjoyable and more about others issues then I think it's time to review who is on the list and possibly add more. Thanks for the Wiki link

Apologies to @Kasmir as I had to clear his OP to have the thread make sense.
Aww, but confusing posts are one of the many straws that stir my madness drink! What say we have a @Kasmir group hug!

Ernie Zampese (RIP) was actually the original object of hate for New England Mike

That doesn't surprise me.

Like @PScottman and @Kasmir said, Ernie Zampese was the person he absolutely despised ... it was definitely pretty crazy.

Zampese trying to work with Bledsoe was like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole... But he was still a better OC than the Larry Kennan/Carl Smith disaster of '97 that's for sure...

Indeed.

There was a time I'd roll my eyes at the phrase "former friend"; I'd always say "if they're former, then they were never really a friend to begin with."

Then I met someone who turned out to be a narcissist, which for various reasons didn't become apparent until very late in the game. As a result, I was deeply fooled and, in the end, deeply wounded for that foolishness. For a time, near the end, I tried 'fixing' this person as part of an effort to salvage the friendship, but eventually accepted what I'd been denying at the time, that it is impossible to fix anyone, especially not a 'narc'.

Tying this back into your quote - my former friend did have a "good side", and for a long time, it mostly held sway. Thus, at first, the friendship was real and so I miss it dearly and always will, while accepting I could never go back.

Now, carrying the scars of that experience and having learned a lot of hard lessons, your words strike deep.

Good post!

I’m probably going to stop coming here because the negativity diminishes my experience as a fan of the team.
So I don’t have any interest in seeking out examples of it to debate you.
Just change your handle again and meander with anonymity, at least until you get outed by savvy PatsFans sleuths who recognize your unique style....

I think you are missing the point. Negative people like you, harping and whining all day long, ruin the experience of coming here as a fan of the team who is encouraged and hopeful about how the season will go.

And yes at one point I was locked out of my password and had it tagged to a defunct email. So when I logged in under a new name, I came in anonymously. Specifically to see if the slew of negative and contentious posters was due to previous interactions or if that just who they were. Guess what, I got my answer, the same crap happened with an anonymous new poster.

It’s fine though. I am a Patriots fan, the team is important to me, and with that comes a sense of caring about it. I come here to get information and opinions about the team. Now this board is infested with negative whiners posting the same tired crap day after day after day, and you are one of the leaders.
So if getting news about the team requires reading through crap like that, I don’t need it.

Wallow without me.

Obviously, posting alternative concerns, and perspectives is fine. I think some of us got a little too wrapped up in a lot of the criticism we saw early in the preseason already writing off the season, which is frustrating. There's no issue with people venting as long as it's done in a constructive way, which as long as that's the case, I don't have an issue with it.

For the people who post "they suck" in every post, those would be the ones I would ask to try and be a little more thoughtful. There's not a whole else to watch in the fall and it's probably safe to say this season is going to be a little rocky but it doesn't change the fact the rest of us are going to try and at least follow along and enjoy whatever good things ultimately come from it. But I would still encourage people to provide honest takes - good or bad - as long as it's things that the rest of us can provide or have a reasonable discussion about.
Can we at least all come together in agreement that The Jest are utter jete? That Commissionator Goodie is a limp ****ed pawn for billionaires of, at best, questionable morals?

Is there anyone here that wouldn't be "Pumped and Jacked!" about seeing "Fat Matt" Patricia rocking another Clown-nose Goodie tee on the way to a [rather unlikely at this point] Super Bowl appearance?

We didn't even have our annual "what the hell just happened?!" loss in Miami yet, nor seen the patriots actual week 1-4 preseason.

Hopefully the fella's 'save some for the game' this time around...was that even BB? I digress.

Lighten up folks, it's a message board. You come here because you think it is fun. No need to piss all over each other bemoaning who's brand of fandom is more pure.

Thanks to the fine proprietor of this little corner of the interwebs, you can even click this wild thing called an 'ignore' button. As you may guess, this magic button grants one the ability to peruse this little slice of pats fandom without the insolent vitriol of oft ill informed purveyors of toxic [whatever makes you giggle here].

If you remember the time Dikembe dropped by patsfans and pronounced Jonas Gray the GOAT, thank @Ian and stop whining.

We're all on the right side of the grass for another trip around the great flaming ball. It could always be worse, just look at this years Jete if you don't believe me.

This same stuff has been going on since the invention of the public area in the internet. The defenders of the faith (regardless of which faith) insist that the location is going downhill because of the negativity, regardless of how much negativity is, or is not, there. In reality, this site has far fewer aggressive back-and-forths than it used to, has had the allowed language carved way back, and is all but devoid (comparatively speaking) of the real flame wars that used to happen here. And that's been the trend all across the internet, as moderation has increased and become increasingly heavy-handed.

I mean, Nem alone would give more than 90% of the homer posters around here nowadays a life threatening case of the vapors, and that's without anyone agreeing with him, or going back at him, in the manner we used to around here. Like it or not, that's just how it's become.
While we’re off-roading : I’ve only been here since 2009 (had to look it up). Yet, this Nem has been referenced over the years. Anyone care to elaborate ? Who was the dude, why was he so famous / infamous ?

Always been curious - this seems as zany a thread as any to ask…

Most of my interacting with NEM were on the political board where we agreed with most things (he got kicked out of there several times.. and then finally a perm ban). The football side of things were another story. Others can contribute more then me on that.

Think DropKickFlutie on steroids.

How did anyone not like Charlie Weiss? That seemed bizarre.

By the way, he did not call play during his time in New York. Bill Parcells did. Did anyone else know that?
