Pats have engaged in TRADE TALKS for Isaiah Wynn

Has anyone noticed much from Russey other than Ridonkulous block of the guy coming around the outside of the RT?
Reiss: "UDFA...Russey looks like a keeper."

I wonder if he learned from Zappe's only sack earlier in the quarter. I'm not sure whose fault this was, but that had to be fresh in Russey's head.

At this point that’s just a waste of the cap money
Example: trade a 4th for a veteran OG with 2-3 years left on his contract (or renegotiate the contract as a condition of the deal).

Would this really be a waste of a 4th, even if the cap money was neutral?

Yes because it’s not going to happen. Why would a team trade away a G with 2-3 years left on his contract that would be better than Wynn?

Why would he learn from something that wasn’t his responsibili?

We're going to draft a tackle in the first and drive everyone crazy next offseason, aren't we?
OT in the 2nd round is most likely, imho. Unless they kick Strange to LT and Brown to RT. Strange has an almost identical build to Matt Light.

Strange is very athletic, but is such a raw player. I hope we don’t have to ever use him at tackle.

That's Zappe's job to recognize the unblocked man and shift the blocking that way to pick up the man. Russey is only to blame if Zappe read it, called the switch and Russey never relayed it. I mention this because you'll notice that the 3 interior linemen don't slide left with their blocking. The RG stays helping the RT. Strange slides to his left some, but with the guy straight across from him, he can't get over in time.

Please refer to my older post. I don't think the really great block he made on the blitzer was his responsibility, either, but I believe he learned from the sack. Without knowing the calls on the line for either play, we'll never know, I guess (perhaps as DaBruinz alluded to, it could've been Zappe who learned and adjusted).

Wynn may not have been the franchise answer at LT, but he's a very solid OL. Trading him would further ensure this season to be a sophomore slump for Jones & Co. The OL is all kinds of mix up, and it's coach - Matty P - is trying to learn how to call Offense while installing a brand new one for this team. The worst thing possible is to count on Ferentz or Cajuste as full time starters. Not to mention a rookie LG. Because don't forget Brown will miss games this year. And it's either Herron or Cajuste protecting Mac.

Why is it that every year now the Pats act like they're starting from scratch at OL. It's like a continual tilta-whirl until week 6. Can't they do enough trial & error and evaluation during TC and 3 preseason games to establish the best situation to run with starting Week 1?
Brown - Strange - Andrews - Onwenu - Wynn/Cajuste
backups: Herron - Hambright - Ferentz
PS: Hines, Stueber, Sherman

Is he, though?
Yes he is. When he is actually on the field (granted not as often as we would like) he is a B or B- starting quality lineman. You could do far far far worse.

You're overrating him. He's nothing more than a middling pass protector, and pass protection is the primary job of your left tackle.

Wouldn't this describe the Mason deal?

You’re underrating him. He’s got quick feet and does a good job of staying in front of his man. He doesn’t dominate people and he does make mistakes from time to time but overall he is a solid pass protector.

He may be talented, but once a big guy gets injured a few times in a row, it seems like it's likely that they will never be healthy. I think the size prevents the injured area from ever being 100 percent.

Huge disappointment for the 23rd pick in the draft. Not even upset he is not pro bowl level.....but he has been an average LT at best and plagued by injuries.

Not a complete bust, but very much underperformed where he was drafted.
He is completely replaceable at 50% of what he is being paid.
The patriots offense with or without him will be mediocre this year.

Good player in a contract year, but you don’t extend a guy with bad knees and injury issues long term.

They have depth on the OLine, get a pick and move forward.
