Who is going to be the 2022/23 breakout Patriot?

It better be Jonnu Smith or this will be another tough season...

The WR group as a whole is interesting. Bourne is legitimately a WR1 if he’s given the volume, as others have said. He benefits from having a speed guy on the other side - if Agholor can improve this year then that’s great. The downside is then Agholor leaves after this year, but the upside is you have Thornton waiting in the wings. I’m curious about Parker’s role, and I wonder whether Meyers will be here next year. Then you have some younger guys like Nixon who could surprise.

Jonnu. Last year was one of those everything that could go wrong, did. McGrone on D, based purely on hope.

On D I would hope for Uche or Perkins because I want an EDGE guy, or Roberts on the Dline, but McGrone would be good too. For our D I am hoping multiple guys pop.

On offense, I think Thornton popping would be ideal. Smith is important, but we can work around it. By the end of last year teams, at times, seemed to have 9 guys in the box. We have to stretch the field.

It better be Mac Jones.

He relied heavily on the RBs and defense last year. The Pats offense padded the stat sheet vs bad teams.

I think the wheels are coming off this season. That guy threw a fantastic deep ball for a rookie. Sure he didn’t connect on every one but you could tell by the trajectory that he was just missing receivers by a tad. Thats a good sign when he’s right in the ballpark. With another offseason I’m thinking that will surely improve as well as his recognition of his surroundings and offensive prowess. Exciting times for fans of this team. We’ve witnessed winning 6 superbowls and I’m loving the rebuild so far.

Your first sentence doesn’t match up with the rest of the post.

If Jones can compete with Josh Allens passing for the division and be instrumental in a post season win, that spells progress.

Another angle is Thornton going beast mode to the tune of 1000 yards and several TDs.

Bills will have Diggs
Dolphins now have Hill

Basically a fantasy football WR. A weapon and household name. Thornton was brought to NE to take the lid of defenses and make them respect the deep threat. Im talking the best drafted Patriot WR in the BB era. Ive been hoping for a guy like that for 20 years.

Your progress is set pretty high then. All pro entering his 5th year vs the year 2 guy. Jones will compete, we’ll see how far that takes them.

He meant to say the "the training wheels are coming off this year"
I thought about it too, but that still wouldn't work as that implies he was being held back or protected. The rest of the post goes into how he needs to improve in a few areas. However, I do think Mac was overly protected last year and as **** Vermeil famously said about Larry Johnson, "the diapers need to come off".

With that being said, I agree with the rest of the post and think Mac is going to be a very good QB for the Pats for some time.

Uche or McGrone… because they need at least one of them to breakout.

Jennings to a lesser extent would be nice on the edge, but they need a fast LB in the middle of the D.

The opposite of throwing 3 passes in the NE win over Buffalo.

Take a game from Allen or go toe to toe. Those are not unrealistic expectations.

The AFCE goes through Buffalo
The AFCW goes through KC
The AFCN goes through Cincinnati
The AFCS goes through Tennessee

Everybody else is looking up.

This isn't last year.

Anything can happen.

I think whoever develops best, and is playing well in Dec/Jan will be there at the end. Last year, it was Cincy.

The Patriots have a shot.
