NFL Free Agency 2022 edition

trade negotiations hit an impasse......pats either think they can sign him cheaper than the trade value, or dallas is trying to force their hand.....also means the market wasn't bullish
I wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys turned down a trade because the $8.7M in 2022 cap room (via the June 1 designation) is worth more to them than a 6th or 7th.

Out of interest, is Watson really all that good? Some folks talk about him as if he's already bookmarked for Canton. Based on what?
He's got good size, great athleticism, and a great arm with accuracy. He also has elite scrambling ability. He led the league in passing in 2020. He has the second highest career passer rating in the history of the NFL. He has all the tools to be a HOF quarterback. If I'm starting a franchise tomorrow then my choice of quarterback would either be Mahomes, Allen or Watson.

The Pats should pounce on him. Granted he will likely be looking for a raise.
They are literally the same age unless Collins can play Left Tackle that would be the only plus.

how many young cornerstones are available, really? von miller was a big money signing......where is he in 3 years? even next year? he's already shown drop off.....to a team like buffalo that makes sense, you throw some void years on the end to stretch the money, and if you cut him in 2024 the hit isn't bad......but the patriots are looking to WIN in 2023-2025, so adding a guy like that now doesn't make sense....next year it might
The patriots are looking to win in 2022. That’s the point. Pissing away a season because we can add a bunch of guys next year is not what belichick is about.
Add them now, there is no additional cost of doing it this year than next and then you are better next year too because they have been in your system.

I’m not talking about stupid signings, I’m talking about the bad logic of not signing a player today because there is more cap room next year when it can easily be pulled forward.

excellent factual summary. THe last 3 years have been pretty crappy.
Good lord, do you even look around at the other teams in the league?

2019: Multiple disasters (Gordon, Brown, Sanu...then broken Brady) destroyed the offense and they MADE THE PLAYOFFS.

2020: Clear-the-books year, took a shot with a boom-or-bust Cam and fell flat - still finished 1 game under 500.

2021: Great draft, rookie QB and seemingly solve that core problem, 24 new faces, no CAP hell, and GOT BACK TO THE PLAYOFFS.

If that's your definition of fandom misery, you are one entitled spectator.

Brady won offensive player of the week twice in 2001. He was a pro bowl selection in 2001. He was 6th in passer rating in 2001. He was 4th in the league in completion percentage in 2001. He led 3 game winning drives in 2001.

I guess you missed his 145 yard performance in the SB…

Don’t they get the same cap relief with a trade?

and realistically they cannot build a SB caliber roster this year with a 2nd year mac.....that's just logic.....they are playing a multi-year build to be a legit superbowl contender, period....

Sounds like Watson to Atlanta

I forget who reported it but heard on 98.5 Patriots have zero interest in Collins

Now the patriots jump in and throw a 7th at them.

That would be wise if we truly are interested. The contract from what ive seen is fair and we are then set for 3 years at rt
