OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Was this the inevitable case all along with how last years contracts were structured or was a key deadline missed that screwed this up?

Well that's not a bad idea in terms of not pushing everything into the future but not like we care about Bucs without Brady. What about Brady's deal?

James White will not be heading to Tampa, as he's re-signing with the Patriots.
Great. I think he's a major contributor to their offense. He must not be asking for much.

Tampa just got one of the guards... from New England.

As long as the Pats have the genius at HC they don't need good players. He'll coach up what the Pats have and they'll be celebrating SB wins again soon. Just you wait and see.

The Buc fans on here must be estatic about this trade, frankly from a Patriot fan, not sure about this one.
There aren't many Bucs fans here. Most of us are Patriot castaways.

Gholston's a FA, but he shouldn't be a bank breaker. Like you, I'm looking for a Gronk deal to be announced in time to negate that dead cap money.
Isn't that the opposite of what Gronk did when he retired from the Pats?

I think at this point BB is just trying to field a competitive team in the 7-10 to 10-7 range.

I'm in the minority but I thought the Pats should have rebuilt over 2 or 3 years(tank) instead of reload. Pats needed and still need a solid foundation of high draft picks on rookie contracts to become stars of the future.

Pats won a last gasp 2018 SB with aging talent. We saw the lack of talent come true in 2019 even with the Goat. And ever since, I don't believe it has gotten any better other than finding the QB of the future.
What I don't get is the free ride that Bill receives for leaving the team without a decent backup when Brady left, not unexpectedly btw. There was no 11-5 waiting in the wings like in 2008 but there should have been something.

I can confirm Bucs have agreed to terms with receiver Breshad Perriman on a one-year deal. Caught game-winning TD in overtime vs. Bills last year, will add another proven target for Brady in deep receiving corps.

Hadn't seen this reported yet, but @spotrac and @Jason_OTC both have detailed info on Carlton Davis' new deal with the Bucs: $44.5 million total, $11 million bonus, base salaries of $4.5m this year, $14.5m in 2023, $14m in 2024. His cap number right now is $8.46 million for 2022.

Along same lines, @spotrac and @Jason_OTC have detailed info on Ryan Jensen's three-year, $39 million extension. $23m fully guaranteed. $12.5m signing bonus (split over 5 years with two void years), $1.5m base this year, $12.5m in 2023, $12.5m total in '24. '22 cap number is $4m.

Good signing. He still has speed, he reminds me of when Dante Stallworth returned to the Pats.

Not going to be a weekly factor, but can make a few big plays a year to open up the defense

I hear you. I see him as remaining part of a sort of rotation at WR4/WR5, and the Bucs have had good luck with that since Brady got there. And I think it's safe to say that they are done at the WR position now:

Bucs now have under contract at wide receiver: Mike Evans Chris Godwin Russell Gage Breshad Perriman Tyler Johnson Cyril Grayson Scotty Miller Jaelon Darden Even if they keep seven, someone's out. Plus Vyncint Smith, Travis Jonsen, Austin Watkins. Maybe trade from depth?

I feel like they need another top level receiver besides Godwin and Evans especially with Godwin coming off of the ACL.

I seems to recall Miller being banged up though. But whatever, what a mess that was.

Miller had the turf toe to deal with pretty much all year long.
