Rapoport, Schefter: Josh McDaniels, Dave Ziegler hired by Raiders for HC/GM Positions

Belichick seems to prefer his coaching staff to be promoted from within, but with the other executive positions he seems to have no issue at all with hiring somebody from outside, such as Mike Lombardi.
Yep. Lombardi was his GM in CLE so he was a known quantity.

They better hire a great QB coach for Mac Jones. OBrien is NOT beneficial to Mac. IMO.
Urban Meyer.

BB and UM are still pals to my knowledge.

Then he will need to find another job somewhere else
He's already got a great gig as OC at Bama. They pay top dollar. He can bide his time until another opportunity presents itself (probably as a college head coach).

A big question is what will the Pats do to replace Ziegler.. Their Scouting staff has been decimated in the past few years and who knows how many people Ziegler will take with him..
One thing I hope Ziegler/McDaniels do is trade for Agholor and Harry.. Send them for a 3rd this year and a 5th next year. or something like that. The Raiders get a deep threat who was successful with that QB to replace Ruggs. And Harry gets a fresh start with his only competition being Edwards since Zay Jones and DeSean Jackson are both UFA. The Pats get picks for this year and next to help continue the rebuild and free up cap space. . Win/Win.

What’s Belichick‘s record against former coaches? I feel like he loses to them pretty often to be honest but I dunno
I think he's right around the .500 range. Though he schooled Mangini and I'm fairly certain that Crennel was on the losing end of things in both Houston and Cleveland.

I've seen a mention here or there about Ziegler, but was LV really competing against anyone for McDaniels? I hadn't seen him linked anywhere else.

I think the weirdest part about this is the total lack of an "heir" to Bill right now. It felt like it was a 90% chance that that guy was McDaniels after his bizarre ditching of Indianapolis and the reportedly very high amount of money he was paid as an OC. Now he's gone, and there's not really anyone on the team who seems like a good bet to be able to step into those shoes.
Its Patricia... Stop denying it

He has gone outside the team on occasion for coaches with mixed results. Bill O'Brien, Dave Guglielmo, Greg Schiano, Bret Bielema, and Corwin Brown.

Caserio and Ziegler were both internal hires. But they lost guys like Licht, Bob Quinn, Thomas Dimitroff.

It was reported that McDaniels turned down multiple interview requests from other teams because he ONLY wanted the Raiders job. Clearly his stock was higher than what some believed.

Can't wait to see the post game pressers with Little Steven.

I would guess that there will be no person actually given the title of Offensive Coordinator in 2022, based on past history - unless the Pats rehire Bill O'Brien. I think more likely Ivan Fears will be the de facto OC, and handed the title in 2023.

Assuming that they promote from within there are few other choices.

Current Staff, Offense:
RB - Ivan Fears
WR - Mick Lombardi
WR - Troy Brown (also KR)
OL - Carmen Bricillo
OL - Cole Popovich
TE, FB - Nick Caley
QB/QC - Bo Hardegree
Fears sounded like he was ready to retire.

We get any compensation for this or naw

How many coaches have “heirs”? Teams are interviewing and hiring guys who aren’t even coordinators for HC jobs.
If you have a talented coach under you they rarely are there long.
How many teams have promoted from within? It’s very rare.

My gut tells me he has a rep as being challenged on the offensive side of the ball
Getting hired and fired before ever making the playoffs isn’t exactly a must have resume.

Question is who is Josh taking on his staff?
