Raiders ready to give Mcdaniels full power? Reputable source?

I think McD takes the Raiders job, if it is offered to him. BOB would be a good choice to replace him. He flopped as a HC in Houston but has cred as an OC. I would also name Hoyer as the QB coach to mentor Mac.

O'Brien won 4 NFL division titles as a head coach before conman Easterby blew it up. BOB is a thousand times better than McD or pretty much any other BB tree guy.

What the hell is the fetish with BoB? He did an absolutely awful job as HC and has an ego the size of Montana. Anyone but O'Brien.

I've mentioned this before but I'd take a look at Ken Zampese, the Football Team's QB coach, if I was looking to promote from outside the organization. Love the work he did this year with Heineke. The Football Team had every excuse to collapse this year and they leveraged a very replaceable QB into a year where they were in with a chance for most of the season. I'd like to see what a guy who could get that kind of year out of Heineke could do with a real QB in a real offense.
I don't really get why people play the "he was a bad Head Coach" card when O'Brien is brought up - I could care less if he's a good or bad Head Coach, we're talking about Offensive Coordinator. I look at his previous tenure as the OC of the NEP and he had success.

As a HC, he certainly flamed out in Houston, but his years prior to that weren't too shabby. I am also a Pennsylvania resident, and I felt he did a superb job with Penn State in the wake of the Sandusky scandal. But again, I don't think it really matters all that much, we're just looking for an OC and maybe a QB coach...

Nah I'm busy. But I get you have all day to be a loser when you're not planning the next Jan6 meeting.

You still have the most ironic name as have never actually posted anything funny. You're pathetic.

It's not like he has many options. Zero teams asked McD for HC jobs. He should recalibrate and realize he has no leverage. And when BB retires he's screwed in NE, no one to piggyback off anymore and would be shortly gone thereafter
He lives in NE, his family is happy there. He is (reportedly) very very well compensated and for the most part he has been in a situation where he’s had success & praise.

He wants to be a HC. But he might prefer being OC to BB rather than report to a dude with a cartoonish haircut.

I totally get it. Makes sense. Milk as much $ as possible while riding the back of BB like a parasite. Especially when McD's been a total failure multiple times without TB12. The thing is he's screwed here once BB retires, 100% certain he gets axed when the team nose dives post-BB

Where the Pats need to get their act together coaching-wise is defensively. I don't see how anyone can look at the job Josh did with Mac and call it anything short of excellent. That's not being a homer.
One could argue the greatest defensive coaches in the history of football - together in unison - would not have slowed Buffalo last weekend with those players.

At some point, they needed to make plays and time & again, they didn’t.

Something was very seriously awry with the defense that can't fully be blamed on the players and has yet to be explained.

Players didn’t seem to be in position to make plays.
The game plan was passive not aggressive and Allen had his way.
As I said before everything needs reevaluated.

Make all the excuses you want, you always do. O’Brien was the issue in Houston snd everybody knows that. He was a cancer there, and he was the only OC in NE who couldn’t win a Lombardi, despite having Brady, Welker, and Moss. MacDaniels helped to win 3 Lombardi’s, BOB could only win 1 playoff game in Houston. He sucks ass, which explains why you love him. Your wet dream is BOB with your man Cam under center for the Patriots.

@BaconGrundleCandy gave a good assessment of player personnel issues but the Patriots have fielded competent defenses in prior years with less talent. Greg Bedard speculated that BB took over running the defense after the Dallas debacle then turned control back to Mayo/Stevie after the bye. The problem could've been a combination of missing that strong coaching voice, mounting injuries and older players wearing down with the longer regular season. The defensive backfield was severely undermanned for the playoff game but that doesn't completely explain seven-straight scoring drives.

Problem for McDaniels is he would be coaching in the toughest division.

KC-Elite QB
Chargers-Elite QB
Broncos-Elite QB (Assuming Rodgers ends up there).

Those are three pretty pretty good teams.

This shouldn't be a major factor. Whatever team he goes to, every other team in the division would be formidable with a schematic and intelligence advantage. ...
it's very telling 0 of 10 teams reached out to interview him. He'd be lucky to even get an offer at this point. His best move to milk the most money$ in earnings is probably to piggyback off BB as long as possible before being openly exposed again.

Is it fair to say McDaniels was a byproduct of Brady?

Bill O’Brien moreso than McDaniels. His claim to fame was his yelling match on the sidelines with Tom.

Just an FYI - without getting into specifics, I've removed DKF from this thread to help it stay a little more on topic given that this story regarding McDaniels will likely evolve. So please continue the thread with that in mind and refrain from any mentions/quotes of past posts since he's not able to reply.
