Aiyuk to Pitt Almost completed

We are sitting on 50 mill. We are short a hell of a lot more than 1 player. Rumors about what we were “willing to do” for a guy using us as a bargaining chip doesn’t make us a better team.
They made the attempt. Most guys take the money

Is it Aiyuk being a **** tease or is SF jerking everyone off? If I'm Pitt my offer to both SF and Aiyuk go down every day.

We dodged a bullet. There may be a few receivers worth crazy money .... tyreek, justin jefferson, maybe Lamb .. and then there is a pack behind them in the right place at the right team that teams will regret over-paying -- that's Aiyuk to me.

I tend to agree with this and I'll take a little further I'm not sure it's a good idea to tie too much money up on Tyreek or JJ either.

It's fine tying up money to an elite playmaker while we have Maye on a rookie contract

Didn't stop the Dolphins from paying Tua, or Waddle. And when they're "over the cap" next year they will just convert some salary into signing bonuses and the world will keep spinning.

Did the definition of “almost” change and I missed it?

It has kinda struck me as odd how much the team is courting top WRs despite obviously needing OL help more (though there is not really much OL help on the market either) - but perhaps Wolf feels that an elite receiver needs to be accounted for and will cause defenses to send extra pass rushers less often, which makes life easier on their OL.
There are no top OL available.
In today’s NFL they almost never get traded

You don't spend money to spend money. That is stupid.

You spend money to improve your team. When you are a 4 win team with one of the few worst offenses in the NFL and a defense based upon scheme and role players there are a lot of players who would improve your team.
If you suck you spend money to get better. And it’s easy to find players because you are upgrading suck.

And where were all the other attempts? He takes the deal and we are still 40 milll under.

You don't improve your team by overspending players you don't need. Again, if there were LTs on the market they passed on or #1 WRs or other positions they really needed, then I would be trashing them. But to pay starter money to a rotational player is stupid. The free agent market sucked this year and all the talent were in positions that we didn't really need. Maybe if we knew Barmore was going to be out for the season, maybe they would have gone after someone.

What positions do we not need players at.

Please name all of the positions where are set and have no need to improve and where there wasn’t a free agent better than what we have.

Do you think this is a playoff team?

Most of the defense either doesn't need an upgrade (or didn't at the time of free agency) or the best players available weren't much or any of an upgrade.

Now it looks like Aiyuk will stay in SF after all and they will pay him the 30m per year. Feels like Aiyuk was jerking everybody around just to get a better contract. The only silver lining to this bizarre saga is at least the Steelers don't get better.

Maybe he wanted us to pay Kirk Cousins $180 million and take a top 10 QB like those goofs in Atlanta. Or maybe we should have paid Christian Wilkins $110 million instead of paying Christian Barmore, who is 4 years younger, $80 million. Or we could have let Anfernee Jennings walk to sign Jonathan Greenard for a measly $64 million more.

If we just spent like a drunken sailor then Andy would be happy.

Their entire defense needed work before and after FA. They were overachievers who held on for dear life by Bill's scheme. Individually, they have very little talent.

Did you look what was available in free agency? There wasn't much there. This free agency sucked. And I don't know if the entire defense needed work. They seem fairly set at CB and strong safety. Prior to Barmore going to IR, they were pretty much set at DT. Before they traded Judon, they were pretty set at DE. The only places with any need for any significant work would be LB where there wasn't much available and free safety where they could have upgraded and didn't.

I was just answering the statement that "Most of the defense didn't need an upgrade".

There were better S's available than Dugger. He played most of the S snaps last season for all S's which turned out to be his worst season since his rookie year. They needed a true FS to take most of the snaps.

The two outside CB spots are question marks. Gonzalez is obviously the starter, but the spot opposite of him needed to be addressed.

Bentley and Tavaii are fine against poor teams, but their lack of talent always shows up against the NFL's best. This has been their biggest weakness for many years.

Judon is an OLB. They needed someone opposite of him and Uche can't be relied upon. T's take the play off when blocking Jennings on passing downs.

Barmore is the only standout on the DL.

Remember you said this. Tennessee alone got a number of defensive players that would have been big upgrades.
Funny you didn’t say anything about the offense.
