OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

I have been hearing pundits go on and on about the oline injuries and that Brady is in trouble cause he can't run, implying that the Bucs would be better off with a running QB for the Rams game.

Lol, even the best of them running QBs Lamar, Murray, Tua, have been made to look like headless chickens when their offensive line is being manhandled. Mahomes was made to look silly at last years SB cause he was running too much instead of just throwing the dang ball.

These pundits have to relearn over and over and over that just because a QB can run doesn't make them a better QB than Brady.
Its the media narrative of how you beat Tom Brady...Hey if you can get pressure from 4 consistently, and up the middle and cover everyone else, you can beat Tom Brady....and well every other QB in the NFL...Its amazing that if you consistently get to the Qb with 4 guys you can win. Who knew?

Super Bowl 42 and Brady trying to play with a high ankle sprain that had him a walking boot for 2 weeks broke people’s brains on what his “weakness” is. Yeah he got owned by the Giants front 4 that day. He couldn’t freaking move. And calling so many long developing deep posts to Moss all day didn’t help.

The only other time I can recall that Brady got absolutely wrecked by pressure was the 2016 AFCCG in Denver which was a historic defense at all 3 levels.

Brady was not under a barrage of pressure in Super Bowl 46 or 52 at all, and the infamous loss to the Jets had nothing to do with pressure it had to do with the Jets coverage being absolutely unbelievable.

Yeah I mean I probably trust Brady handling pressure more than most, its just this media thing that if you get pressure on Brady he sucks. Its quite funny. I mean if you get instant pressure on any QB they are not going to do well. Look at mahomes. Not sure of this QB out there that is great when they get constant pressure up the middle in their face, but for some reason its only used for Brady.

I was at that AFC Championship game in Denver and he was being absolutely destroyed. Any other QB would of gotten blown out but they still almost won. You are always in games with him back there, generally speaking.

The stats of sacks, hits, knockdowns, and pressures in that Denver game are absolutely mind boggling.

I am not sure why Brady has ever been doubted least of all by Patriot fans. The guy's entire career has been based on ripping the hearts out of his opponents and doubters. Why would Bill be any different?
Bill is different because he gets rid of players a year early rather than a year late. In fact, sometimes it's 2, 3, or 4 years too early. BB fans wears that mantra like a badge of honor.

It works except when:
- you already have the best of the best, you can only downgrade.
- you don't have an adequate replacement for the guys being replaced.

Also Brady made up and covered up for the loss of talent, loss of leadership, and loss of moral (as many of these players were long term Patriots who played above their weight, at a discount, only to be rewarded with a kick to the curb).

And if you look at the Pats offenses with a hobbled Edelman and literally no other weapon other than Gronk who went out a few times in the second half with dehydration, it was an unbelievable performance from Brady. This Bucs O despite being down AB and Godwin STILL has a ton of weapons to defend. The depth is incredible. I fully expect a game plan that will be very difficult for the Rams to contain all day.

After watching the last month of the season and in particular the playoff game, it has been crystal clear just how much the Patriot Way was predicated on Brady and his leadership. His ability to elevate and hold guys accountable is second to none.

The year too early

Brady was the cog that made the Patriot Way work. Many players took a discount to play with Brady and a championship. Now the Pat's don't have that advantage.

The Patriot way has been tried by many former Pats coaches who became head coaches of other teams with ZERO success. Maybe it's because they didn't have Brady to make it work,.. I wonder.

All great teams are predicated on elite QBs. The best QB ever was able to win the most but all great teams have great QBs for the most part. YES there are always exceptions before the idiots come out and start arguing.

BB is the mastermind of the Patriot Way.

But I have come to believe that Brady was the engine that made the machine work.

Without the engine, the Patriot Way, is just an old school broken Way of doing things. It has been proven around the league.

To be honest, I was very interested to see these past couple of seasons just how the "Patriot Way" would fare post-Brady. The Newton experiment was an embarrassment because Bill didn't think Brady would leave but this past season was a real eye opener. You could see the underpinnings of the culture and the system but without THE guy to keep it altogether, it just came apart. Even the coaching was terribly exposed.

This season was a good start to 'testing' the Patriot Way theory even though it's an idiot theory to begin with. They have the exact type of QB that people have said they could win with. Lets see if they can make a single deep playoff run in the entirety of Mac's rookie deal or if it will be excuses year in and year out like we are used to hearing from other teams NE has dusted in the last 2 decades.

This is a good point. Plus, a back up will have been groomed/prepared to play. RT is not the worst spot on the Oline as compared to LT or even Center. I mean Wirfs is a beast but his position is not the most critical on the line. Outside pressure has never really bothered Brady as opposed to interior. Plus, I have to believe the backs and TEs are going to chip all day vs Donald and Miller.
It helps that the game is at home as well. I'd be more worried if they had to go to Sofi. It's surprisingly loud there

Wirfs out there...good news

Gotta be a smoke screen although I don't know that him playing changes much for LA anyway. They will test the right side for sure.

Yeah he definitely won't be 100 percent. More comforting having him out there than Wells though

Wirfs and Jensen practicing. If they're ready to go Bucs are winning this game.

It's all about pushing a narrative. And, in this case, it combines with the reality that Brady's only real weakness is his relative inability to escape pressure up the middle.
