OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

The amount of talent and depth that the Bucs have at WR and RB is incredible. They lost so many guys and a player like Miller still has a hard time cracking the line up or getting snaps. Miller would be a fine WR4/5 on basically all other teams and probably a WR3 on some.

In NE, it was just JE and Gronk for so long as the top targets. If they went down there, wasn't much else. Amendola, Cooks, Hogan, and Bennett were there to help in spells for a season or parts of seasons.

I bet Brady wishes he could have Amendola right now, though.

That’s what’s missing: the complete pain in the ass (for the defense) who somehow gets wide open on every 3rd down. Amendola is one of my favorite ex-Patriots. So weird that they wouldn’t pony up for an affordable contract after what he did in 2017.

I think it's fair to put it this way, though you may disagree:

At the start of Brady's career, when the rules were more favorable to the defense, Brady probably benefitted from having BB putting more resources into the defense. TB hadn't quite gotten to his G.O.A.T. level yet, and a good defense meant that he didn't have to carry a team yet, but could just "manage" the game until/unless it got to the point where he needed to step up.

But, with the changing of the rules, and with the decline of the defense's talent level, post-2004, that changed, and getting Brady more offense was the key. It was missing out on this (albeit not alone, and among other things) that was most likely to cost the team starting in 2006. The ideal was, obviously, to have both, but we saw the evolution from the start.

i think that narrative about Tommy being a manager stopped in the Panthers Super Bowl. Adam missing 2 FGs and the defense laying an egg. That was all Brady and that well pre-2004

Exactly, did people just not watch the 2003 superbowl against carolina?

Yeah not sure about that. Their best receiver for a bit there was a guy who never played football in college and was on the practice squad most of the year. Miller has been hurt all year, and is basically a deep threat, I am not sure what team he would be a wr3 on. In NE Gronk and JE was not even on the team when Brady won 3 superbowls.

I'm not referring to "game manager" in the pejorative sense. I'm referring to it in the best sense. No need to go crazy with the throws. Just keep the clock going, move the chains, and know when to fight another day.

To this day, he still does that as well as, or better, than every other QB in the league.

Good point, but then there’s being a diva WR and then there’s being a crazy as F*** diva WR.

I agree, 100%. But, since getting established, OJB's been poison for his QBs in his first two stops.

Didn’t go how I wanted it to but I’m grateful for the opportunity to strap it up again! Look forward to continuing this journey with my teammates and coaching my butt off. Thank you for all the support this season. The body gave all it had and I’m grateful.

If Fournette's back, the Bucs basically have a Patriots RB situation.

RB1 - Fournette
RB2 - Jones
3dRB - Bell
3dRB - Bernard

Bonus a/k/a special teamer + RB - Vaughn
Isn't Jones injured?

Bucs matched the NFL high this season with 11 different players catching touchdown passes -- tied with Cowboys, Colts, Chiefs, Saints and Giants. Fewest? Steelers and Seahawks had only six different players catch touchdown passes in the 2021 season.

are the eagles a shot of making a big upset this weekend?
I’ve been really impressed re: Tampa’s offense the last two weeks hopefully they’ll continue to fire

I think they do but I wouldn't pick them to win. Offense could start slow and Hurts could run all over the defense for a few drives. They could go for any 4th down passed their own 40 and somehow get them because Tampa over plays it or plays 10 yards off with 3 yards to go. Lenny could drop the first 3 passes his way. I think the only game that's a lock is KC.

OBJ, would bea great addition for Brady. Likely a reasonable price Too. The team really needs to the #2/3 cornerback positions.
He is currently projected to get a contract at 6mil. A 1 year contract at that price would certainly be worth it

Prescott wins NFC player of the week playing a half. He had crazy numbers but philly didn't play any starters. Just shows that all these awards are just for fun. They aren't legit in any way.

These stats are just mind blowing. Florio got the TDs wrong. Brady has 83 not 73. He threw 10 last year. Also, it is interesting that no QB has passed Montana's win total for the post-season and yet Brady has more than doubled him. Also, was thinking about Rodgers having one less game this year with the bye. He is second with TD passes but gets one less game this year than Brady potentially.

He'll play 1 or 2 games and throw 5TDs and no INTs and go home with a smile on his face thinking he's catching up and growing his legacy. Awaits his MVP and boosted his stats and about to sign somekind of monster deal in the offseason. All is well in Aaronland.
