Matt Rhule will return to the Panthers for a third season, per multiple local and national reports.

Rhule, 46, has won only five games in each of his first two seasons with one game remaining this season. The 10-22 record seemingly had him on the hot seat and has prompted chants of “Fire Rhule!” at recent home games.

The Panthers, though, will give Rhule another year to prove he can do in the NFL what he did in college at Temple and Baylor. Owner David Tepper signed Rhule to a seven-year deal before the 2020 season.

Rhule reportedly will begin the search for a new offensive coordinator next week, after the team fired offensive coordinator Joe Brady on Dec. 5.

So they fired a coach who never had that bad of record and had multiple playoff runs and made Cam into an MVP level QB, and was 5-7 mid season partially because Cam went to IR in the early season.

Ruhle took over a garbage dumpster and has only had 2 years, so giving him a 3rd ( on his 7 yr 62 mill contract) rather than giving up on him already make sense too.

I don’t understand why Pace should stay. Trubisky over mahomes and Watson and then to fix the mistake deals a future 1 for fields, who the jury is still out on.

I haven't watched much of the Broncos recently, but the bits I've seen suggest to me a well-coached team whose problems are more in lack of talent (and, specifically, at quarterback). But how often do you see a franchise keep the coach and change the GM?

I hope for his sake, and really for his Dad's as well, that he takes a DC job at a mid level college somewhere and does really well with it, leading to a normal climb up the coaching ranks as he proves himself without the overhang of working for his GOAT Dad.

The job title similarity leads to the misperception that the desired competencies and qualities are similar.

This is why so many franchises suck. Changing coaches and GM’s every few years creates havoc in terms of drafting, player acquisitions, and all of the systems needed to create a strong successful franchise overall. Find the one or two people you want to lead your franchise for the long term, let them do their jobs, and stick with them.

Bill Walsh won 8 games his first 2 seasons.
Chuck Noll won 12 games his first 3 seasons.
Bill Parcells went 3-12-1 in year 1.
Tom Landry finished under 0.500 each of his first 5 seasons.
We all know the Bill Belichick story.

I know the game has changed over the last 30-50 years, with free agency and the salary cap dominating things and encourging quicker turnarounds. Still, this supports your contention. There are some guys that absolutely prove themselves incompetent and should be cut early (Urban Meyer, Rod Rust, Adam Gase, etc.). But in general the rest of these guys should be given longer leashes, to be really given a chance to implement their system and get their players, and see if it works out.
