Derrick Henry done?

With Henry likely out for the season, a Brandon Bolden and N'Keal Harry for AJ Brown trade makes too much sense for both teams right now. I would be shocked if it doesn't happen in the next 24 hours.

No kidding.

Might be coincidence or bad luck but seems once a RB hits 2000 yards either the following year or their career takes a hit.

1974- OJ had an average year for him but still had a couple of monster years left.
1985- ****erson had an average year for him. Still had a couple of big years left.
1999- Barry Sanders had a great year. Retired in 2000.
1999 Terrell Davis- Blown ACL. He was human after that.
2004- Jamal Lewis- Got hurt. Had some 1000yd seasons. Nothing special.
2010- Chris Johnson- Had some good years after 2009 but seemed to lose that xtra gear
2013- AD- Very good 2013. 2014 IR. Great 2015 but downhill after that.
2021- Derrick Henry-Foot. IR?
OJ was still killing it twenty years later!

The sheer number of carries that guy has had in the last 4 years, you wonder when these types of things were going to start creeping up on him. Never wish injury on a player, but from a Patriots perspective, this definitely helps if he's still out when we face them. Henry's a guy you can gameplan perfectly for and he'll still beat you because he's such a load.
Yeah, also on the flip side IMO the Patriots do a lot of load balancing to avoid burning out any one RB, and to make sure all of them know what it's like to come into a game cold and be expected to perform. Pays to keep some balance on the team, IMO.

The playoff race just done got all jumbled up

Schefter says AP to Titans

Peterson today is not an upgrade over Henry. That's good news for the Pats for the game in a few weeks.

I didn't watch, but Henry put up 80 and 70 yards per game for the last two weeks and the Titans still won both, including holding KC to 3 points. The team probably still needs to be considered seriously.

(Too bad he's hurt. Great player and fun to watch)

Henry is awesome. This sucks.

It also has me wondering, is it worthwhile to play these big names as much as they get played? Gurley is a recent example, McCaffrey another, that an offense that runs through them really wears the player out, and quickly.

RBBC lends the opp for some relief, spreads the touches, etc. - but it's hard to really get a RBBC setup if you're paying top dollar for an absurd back like Gurley or Henry.

Does today's NFL with its long seasons and higher tempo of play make it difficult for those folks like Henry?

Would love to hear other's takes on this, including ones that give examples that contradict my post.

it often didn't happen though. Lots of great run heavy teams came up short or were beaten by teams through the air, even when the passing game wasn't so assiduously protected.
Those of us old folks who were forced to watch NY Giant games in the fifties and early sixties remember Charlie Conerly and Y.A. Tittle regularly beating the Browns and Jim Brown.

Sucks he is so fun to watch. Noone wants to tackle that dude.

Just heard O.J. called up Vrabel and offered his services as a still viable "slashing" runner....(micro-rimshot)

This is bad news for the Titans, and Tannehill especially, since he relies so heavily on play action. That threat is gone without Henry. Even if he isn’t done for the season, he will still be out for a long while since he will need a screw inserted in his foot.
the team is screwed

All the guys who get used to names and numbers of RBs then want it to be the scandal of the century when they move on need to think about the Pats' history with that position. They pay them, and value them, as role players. Not quite interchangeable, but you just tweak the show for the new cast when you have to move on.
