I just think dynasties are good for sports.
I’ve lost interest in the NCAA tournament. Why? Because every year it’s a brand new cast with all the old ones gone to the NBA. One year and gone.
I’ve lost interest in baseball. As much as I hated them, the Yankees were great for fan interest. Rooting against/for the same familiar players every year in the ALCS/World Series was great. They play 162 games…then they have a 3 game series (!) and there’s silly 1 game random eliminations too.
And the Patriots generated NFL interest, too, as did the 90s Cowboys, 80s 49ers, 70s Steelers, 60s Packers, etc. I think you want to reward the best teams every year with a better chance to make it to the championship game. It’s going to further randomize the winner with an extra elimination game. If we go back in history, and now those dynasty teams need to win an extra round, how many titles for the Steelers, Niners, Cowboys, Patriots? Certainly less.
