1 (not at all) to 10 (completely), how certain are you that Mac Jones is the long-term answer at QB?

Everything he does will be compared to Brady.

There's no escaping that shadow.

it's a tough position to be in.
Comparing a rookie to GOAT Brady is the toughest part. It is legit to measure Mac against year 1 as a starter Brady, not what he became as a seasoned player.

Yeah cannot really compare that either, because totally two different teams and era's. How about we just not compare him to Brady at all.

Ok but McDaniels has been here forever through superbowls, now he is bad becuase there is a baby fresh rookie that holds the ball too long?
There's a McDaniels-hater madlib out there some of this forum just fills in when we lose or even look like we will. Can't help you, some guys call better plays in their easy chairs and dump on the playcalling of Josh McDaniels when things get tough. It's their right and yeah they get mad, I would too if I were that much smarter than the guys in Foxborough, but luckily I don't believe myself to be that football smart. I live in a town where the locals know way better than the coaches and have for many years (Washington area,) and here, it's true. Is it in NE? I don't think so. But my only "evidence" is the results of their approach, and this is the golden hour for those who want all New England's success to be Tom Brady's success. We're in between what came before and what's next. Fertile ground. :D

They might be right, I dunno. It'll take a while to make that call, Bolden runs and Mac non-throws notwithstanding.

Bonus nightmare fuel for you guys who are really smart: What if Josh McDaniel secretly plans to never pass for a TD again? :D

I can’t believe what I saw in the GDT complaining the Pats got rid of Cam :D :D :D :D SMH

Guess they miss those awesome 9-20 80 yards 2 int 30 passer rating games. Mac today under massive pressure still had more pass yards than Cam did in 4 of his games combined. Lmao

Judging him vs other rookies I would give him a solid grade. One thing that is tough is the protection has been awful which I wasn’t expecting. I cant even blame Jones for it. Its like as soon as he hikes the ball the pressure is coming fast. Not sure if thats because the line is just overated and not very good or the opposing playcalls being agressive due to having a rookie back there. Hopefully when Brown comes back it will correct itself. The more I see the more I’m missing Thuney though.

I will say this for all the naysayers, give him time to figure out the quick/hit reads, defeat the blitz etc. 3 games is not nearly enough time. I think he is going to do a lot better but he is going to have a few learning curves along the way.
IIRC, he was blitzed more in the first two weeks than Lawrence and Wilson combined.

Oh God yes. Mac can actually throw a forward pass, I am good with over Cam. Guys need to understand, beyond popular belief spending a lot in the offseason and taking a QB high does not mean superbowl. There are going to be some rough road. When we rebuilt before, those were 10-6 seasons that we griped about, but we had a vet all time Qb and it was never that bad. Now we dont, we are basically starting over.

And people need to get used to growing pains with a rookie. Trever Lawrence threw 2 picks today and Fields had only 68 yards and took 9 sacks.

Rarely does a rookie come in and look 100% ready.

IMHO, there are several elements of the team that are TBD at this time, mostly around the offensive unit

Depends what you mean by 'the guy'. Is he a franchise QB? I think so. Is he a guy who can carry you if need be and be a top QB. Right now I'm thinking no, but i did like some flashes today.
I’d say the bar is if in four years time we’re saying at least Kirk Cousins or better, and not Jared Goff or worse. Are we actively dreaming of ways to upgrade the position or not?

The craziest thing you posted a couple comments above is the OLine is fine and they've won games with this OLine. Um not it's not a good OLine and no they haven't won a lot with this OLine. Last year they won 7 games and with Onwenu at RT. This is a different OLine where Mac is getting hit 11 times a game. You're blaming Mac for getting hit 11 times and having to rush 6 times ???

.

I think Bill needs to evaluate his offensive coordinator at seasons end. Assuming this continues.

I think Jones can do alot more and McDaniels isn't letting him.
Not sure why people keep on saying this over and over again as if McD tore out half the pages of the playbook.

Josh said the entire playbook is open to Mac. Mac has said he's left plays on the field. There were plays open DF and Mac has chosen not to take the shots or missed them. He also said he handed ball to Bolden at the line (changed the play). For some reason he's not taking the shots that are part of the play calls. It's Mac.

I'm a ten. I like the guy. Smith?? Catch the ****ing ball..
Me too. Threw 2 pick-6’s in his first action at Bama against Auburn of all teams (Tua got hurt). Didn’t fold, and still gave them a chance to win. Didn’t fold then and won’t now

As time goes on I wonder not only how much Brady and Gronk carried everything, but also Chad O'Shea who used to lead the red zone offense. Red zone has been very poor ever since O'Shea left many seasons ago.

He's having to do more than he should at this point, and he is kind of answering the bell, he didn't screw up when we had urgency against Miami and today, except for that bad pick.

I like how he is using the TEs without overusing them and becoming predictable. The WRs are a disappointment but the OL is not giving anyone any time. With the OL not being able to open lanes for the running game this part of the game is als affected.

We need better OL play and things will get better. It's too soon to make any evaluation on Mac, so far the sample is positive for me.

That's awesome. When are we playing Auburn?

Here you go, on the Bolden RZ plays that you'all blaming on Josh. I don't think Lazar is a hater.

Here's more evidence of concerns over his deep ball. He misses big, doesn't have strength, they flutter. Just bad all around. What's the difference between how he's throwing deep passes now and what you guys saw at Alabama.
