Oof.
Lol. I believed all off season that the Packers were finished. Rodgers saying for months how much he hated the org/GM and never wanted to play for them is never a harbinger of a championship season. He also said he heavily considered retirement.

What's interesting to me is he performed so well last year as a way to get traded off the team. The problem was that plan only existed in his head as he was sure the Pack would go with Love despite him having 3 years left on his deal.

I have to believe his teammates are looking at him sideways. They certainly didn't compete for him yesterday.

I think the season has a chance of actually being worse than McCarthy's final season as he doesn't want LaFleur fired this time, he wants to burn the org to the ground.

It wouldn't surprise me too much if the Packers bounced back, but Rodgers is just not reliable in the post-season. Seahawks are potentially dangerous but I don't believe their D or o-line has been fixed adequately to maintain a post-season run. The Saints' defense gave the Bucs some issues last year but another year in that offense for Brady and everyone should help overcome most of those troubles. The Rams seem very solid on both sides of the ball and could be a tough matchup.
I would not use yesterday's game as a way to judge the saints. It is clear the Packers have huge issues. Brady is so much more in synch than last year and Arians knows Winston.

We play the Saints before the Bucs do. Suddenly that game looks to be much tougher than we had thought.

Don't see anyway the Bucs and Rams aren't the top two seeds in the NFC. Besides playing one another in week 3, both of their schedules are quite favorable. (As a side, I think it's embarassing that the #2 seeds no longer get a bye. I get more playoff football=more revenue. In that case, add wild cards and they can host a game).

In the AFC, the only team I'm sure about (At least offensively) are the Chiefs. But I'm still concerned about the defense. Can't start getting into shootouts all of the time. Because eventually the opponent will win that battle. See 2018 AFC Championship as a reference.

Then again, it's hard to forecast anything after week 1. Might not be until week 5 or so that we get an idea as to who is what. There's always these teams that start out 4-0 or 3-1. But they get figured out and/or fade down the stretch.

Probably a good time to post this so we can continue to keep track. Since Brady leaving here are the records for Brady/Bill:

Brady: 16-5 (including 4 playoff wins and SB 55 champion/MVP)

Bill: 7-10 (7-8 with Newton; 0-1 with Hoyer; 0-1 with Mac)

Atlanta got creamed yesterday and will be huge underdogs going into TB.

I have a sneaking suspicion this will be the upset of week 2. Divisional game. Just a feeling.

Just seems that whenever a team gets whipped, and everyone expects them to lay down the next week, they somehow surprise people.

Note: I don't think this will hinder the Bucs chances at a repeat. Just week 2.

Bill with Brady, 249-75, missed the playoffs once in 19 seasons.

Bill without Brady, 63-74, made the playoffs once in 8 seasons.

A coach is only as good as his players, a superior coach will get more out of his players than an inferior one, but he's not winning championships because of his immaculte strategies, he's winning championships because his players were better, more clutch, more productive and sometimes luckier than their opponents.

We saw what happened to Gregg Popovich once Duncan retired. No coach in the history of the league would have made a championship team out of Demar Derozan and Aldridge. Popovich was as good his players were, so when he had Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, Robinson and Kawhi, his teams were a perennial contender, once they retired/left, his teams have struggled to make the playoffs. In 19 seasons, the Spurs didn't miss the playoffs once without Duncan, and they've missed them twice in the last 4 years, and barely made it the other two (7th seed, both years). Very similar to Belichick with/without Brady.

We can do justice to Bill and quote him: ''It's a players game.'' He's absolutely right.

Chiefs need to hope that Kelce or Hill do not go down either. Didn't really see the other guys step up fortunately for them they are relatively healthy no true injury history.

Pringle made a few nice catches.

Hardman really needs to step up. He's a speedster but has been inconsistent. It's his third year and I still can't confidently say he could be a #1 receiver in this league. In fact I'd say he couldn't do it. Yet..

I think we could still win a SB without Hill. It would be tough. Without Kelce? Very difficult. Defenses would double Hill and force the young guys to step up. They did not step up in the SB and were ok yesterday.

That applies to most coaches though. It's rare you win without great players.

A team could win a title with a subpar coach. See Arians.

Damn…that’s a bold prediction. You have to think Tampa will be refocused as well after all those mental mistakes in the opener and 10 days to prepare. And when it comes to historical ownage, Atlanta and Brady are on another level. Last year Atlanta built another huge lead and Brady came back, marking Tampa’s turning point. Hey, I’m all for the idea that teams are rarely as bad or great as they look, but I don’t see this one.

Atlanta is a weird team though. They could lose to a subpar team like Philly. But then somehow put up a fight against a better team.

You never know what you'll get from them.

I do know that 28-3 broke them beyond repair.

I’ve heard nothing about Kyle Pitts, you know the greatest TE prospect ever, since the draft.

Arians is not a better coach than Belichick but he is 2X NFL COTY so I wouldn't say he's subpar. I agree though that an elite QB and team can carry a subpar coach to a title. Peyton Manning took Jim Caldwell to a Super Bowl and Caldwell is not a great coach.

The debate to was it Belichick or Brady is over. It was Brady, full stop. Great QB > great coach every time. Even Bill said it - it's a players game. He's right. So is Brady for saying "I can't do (Bill's) job and he can't do mine".

2011 Colts were 2-14 without Manning and a coach with a career sub .300 record in college as HC and no they didn't tank that's what they really were. I think Bill could have probably guided the 2011 Colts to 6 or 7 wins if he was there. But no further. Not Bill, not Lombardi, no great coach has a magic wand that can turn a poor team into a good one, or a decent team into a great one. Brady can though.

Fun stats while we're on the topic of the 2011 Colts:
Curtis Painter in 8 starts: 54.3 comp %, 6 TD, 9 INT, 66 passer rating
Cam Newton last year between the Seattle game and the final Jets game: 12 starts, 64% 4 TD, 9 INT, 74.9 rating

Heh.

A lot of people forget that the 2011 Colts are probably anywhere from 8-8 to 10-6 even with Manning. That team had a ton of holes.

Their 2010 team went 10-6 and at one point were 6-6 before winning their last 4 games by 2, 10, 5, 3.
