Cam Released

Clearly the final nail in the coffin was Ben Volin's article this morning about how Bill's choice of Cam as starter was the right call!

Belichick has eyes. And this eliminates a HUGE distraction and potential locker room tension as the season progresses.

Your observation about Ben Volin's piece this morning is on target. Josh probably taped it over the urinal in the coach's bathroom with a note that said: "Volin's quoting ESPN talking heads who think they know what we're thinking, again."

Casual sexism is hilarious, I'm such a triggered lib rn
Apologies for offending you. I just happy Cam is cut, I predicted this will happen in May. I also took liberty that my past posting here will afford me the benefit of doubt but I am mistaken. You can believe that it was a joke or not, but the post below may perhaps put things into context on my state of mind. I just did not see what anybody saw in Cam as an NFL caliber QB, so I will not mind kicking anybody who is down on that front. Done with this. @patchick

It's funny, I don't see it as a cut-throat move at all. It would have been difficult for all concerned to have a such a charismatic and accomplished QB sitting on the bench behind a rookie who is bound to have ups and downs. Not to mention that Newton had an incentive-laden contract that he would have watched slowly drip away. Sometimes it's more respectful to release the veteran.
IMO Bill could have converted the incentives into cash if he really wanted Cam around.

Bill's been hedging his bets all along. Basically he signed Cam so FAs would have a name and a face at QB. The structure of the contract indicates he wanted to be able to cut Cam if he found a better answer. He signed Cam long before the draft so he could not have known how that was going to play out. Now he knows Mac is here and he's the real deal so he's cutting Cam.

Cam has been an insurance policy for Bill, one that Bill's dropping at the worst time of the year for Cam. Training camp is over so it'll be hard for him to catch on anywhere else. Even though Cam's current salary is low, most teams have their QB depth chart already in place. Cam may catch on if there are injuries, but Cam probably won't get what he really wanted/needed, a year to show the rest of the league he can still be a starting QB and get himself another bite of the apple.

If Cam does catch on elsewhere, chances are he's not going to be familiar with the scheme so probably won't be able to make the best of the opportunity.

This whole sequence of events may turn out to be really sub-optimal for Cam, and if so, I doubt he'll be happy about it, yet in reality we've been doing Cam a favor. Cam had little interest in either of his two FA seasons and we've done all we can do to pump him up. I hope he sees it that way, but I'm not sure he will.

Absolutely. Anyone that refuses the experimental dna changing poison that is spiked with graphene oxide has my respect.

To anyone suggesting Mac needs to be superhuman I’d just say go back and look at Tom Brady’s numbers from 2001… that wasn’t a good season for him or any QB at that time. He threw 1 TD along with 1 INT in the entire playoffs. It’s a team game ultimately and there’s the distinct possibility Mac is further along than Tom at this time.

Biggest threats in the AFC

1 Chiefs - If KC suffered a loss of Kelce or Hill that would cripple them severely.
2 Bills - The familiarity of playing NE twice a season makes Buffalo dangerous.
3 Steelers - Ben has 1 more in him and they may have finally found the RB is always key to a Pittsburgh Super Bowl.

It isn’t just about record, if Mac Jones plays just Justin Herbert last year I will cheer him even if the team goes 7-10 similar to how the Chargers season went.
Another season with Cam would have been at best a short term win now thing.

The move to Mac will at least let us learn more about what Mac is and is not.

If there's a lot of losses involved at least it gets us a better draft position, and helps us draft better players to put around Mac, or maybe even his replacement if it comes to that.

There is more to winning a game and doing things than how many td's you throw. You do not know how far along Mac is because Mac has not played a single regular season game.

I’m not here to start a long back and forth but can we agree that giving your starting QB next to no reps with the starters was an interesting decision?

THIS.

It should have been Mac from at least July. We knew what we had in Cam. We should have given Mac a LOT more 1st team reps and given him a better opportunity to be successful in his rookie year.

I believe it's the right decision, but overall poorly handled by Bill. He CLEARLY should have taken this decision a month ago. There's NOTHING Cam did wrong in the preseason to cause this. Bill should have decided at least a month ago that he's seen enough from Mac to make him starting QB and told Cam or released him. The preseason did nothing to bring this decision on.

Hopefully Mac thrives anyway but really he should have been made starting QB a month or two ago.

It doesn't change DNA, and none of the vaccines contain graphene oxide. Other than that, the above quote is correct. Please continue to get your information from Telegram conspiracy channels.

No WHO authorized vaccines produced by Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, CanSino, Sinovac, Sputnik V, or Janssen contain graphene oxide.

The first four defenses they face will be a gauntlet, with arguably the leagues best coming in week4. The Jets could even be be better than people think, never underestimate Adam Gaze or his inability to coach.

Frankly I didnt see a single reason why we would need to waste another year of Cam. Sometimes you just have to pull off the bandaid.

Part of what excites me about Mac and the current roster of receiving targets we have is that I think he'll do a good job of spreading the ball around and giving players a chance to make plays.

I *miss* the pre-2007 Brady and part of me thinks that, in some way, that season made Brady more inclined to look for higher risk/reward ratios in the passing game. I know that convo has been beaten to death but I would love a strong running game and a low-mistake game manager approach from Mac. Coupled with as good as I hope our defense is we could actually challenge for a WC/division which isn't something I put hopes into going into the season.

Agreed, he may pee down his leg like Stidham when faced with live fire… but after his Alabama career I doubt it.

Point is Tom wasn’t superhuman in 2001, they were simply one of the best teams and got really lucky (health).
