I think you are reading that incorrectly. The value was a 2nd rounder plus roughly a 5th rounder (net between giving up a 4th and getting a 6th in return).

Yup, I definitely reversed the pick swap in my brain for some reason. Thank you.

First it was Fitz, then OBJ, now Julio. The Pats and trading for a big name WR just hasn’t happened as of late.

The Tennesse Titans might have the best wide receiver duo in the NFL. The team reportedly made a huge splash Sunday, acquiring All-Pro wideout Julio Jones from the Atlanta Falcons.
The deal is not finalized just yet, but it is expected the trade will get done, according to ESPN's Dianna Russini.

The Falcons are expected to trade Julio Jones to the Titans barring any setbacks in the next 24-48 hours, per sources. The 2 sides still are finalizing compensation but, as one source said, “I feel very good about this happening” If there are no snags, the trade official Monday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter said the two sides were discussing compensation. The deal will reportedly include the Falcons receiving a second and fourth-round pick from the Titans, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Full terms:
The #Falcons get a 2022 2nd round pick and Atlanta gets the titans 4 in 2023 and they give back their 6 in 2023.
The Titans get Julio Jones.

The Falcons will send back a sixth-round pick in 2023.

d%#*!@t

And the compensation for Julio was nowhere near being too much. It's an embarrassment for every team that could have beaten the deal and didn't.

Edit: It should be noted, just in case someone doesn't understand it as a given, that if Julio refused to go to some team, or teams, that were in the bidding, that would change the equation.

According to sources Julio was looking for an extension, why don't we wait to see how much more money they give him before we proclaim all it took was a draft pick?
And let's see what they get out of him for a year.

As for Jones wanting an extension:

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported on Monday that "according to a source familiar with Jones’ past contractual expectations, the team that trades for Jones needs to account for the very real possibility that Jones will want a new deal."
Jones, 32, is set to make $15.3 million this season, $11.5 million in 2022 and $11.5 million in 2023. While he's currently on the three-year, $66 million contract he signed in 2020, $25 million of that deal came in the form of a signing bonus.
So Jones could potentially argue to a new team that the yearly figures on his base salary are now below market for a player of his stature. His $15.3 million in base salary for 2021 ranks fifth among active receivers, per Spotrac, which seems to be in the ballpark of where he should rank at the position in terms of compensation.

And:

So JJ has leverage over TEN, he has to agree to a restructure so he can/will ask for more money.

All this for a 32 year old WR who missed seven games last year.

Is Julio getting paid or does he play for free... real question?

Yeah maybe the Pats just didn’t feel comfortable taking on his salary I’m not sure, disappointed though.

Even if Jones blows his ACL out in week 1 and never plays a snap, it's worth a 2nd rounder. As the Barmore thread has shown, ALL 2nd round picks are gambles anyway, for one reason or another. It's fine to take risks on All-Pro talents for that price.

It's a good deal for Tennessee. It's an upgrade (for this year at least) as a replacement for Corey Davis.

Yet in this very thread we have people whining years later about spending a 2nd rounder on a vet WR who did get injured shortly after being acquired...

If they could somehow fit Ertz under the cap?..
....they’d still lose due to their defense.

Bill being bill.

Idk Idk ...

He would have been the best player on our team on a cheap contract in a position of need. For a 2nd.

Good on Tennessee. I love when teams go for it. Why not? That offense just went from really good to you better have 3 legit CB's and a solid front 7 to compete all game. Talk about being physical on offense and being a bully. Good luck to opposing DB's on Titans day.

Falcons are just ... They're planning on ... Honestly no F'n clue. Basically spinning their tires for the next two years. Tough day to be a fan. Jones & Sanders are the best two players that team has ever had and both ran as fast as they could away from Atl. Not a good look.

Jones is coming to Foxboro this year! Kinda?

I don’t think tanny is great either. He has a very good year but is he one of those guys that can lead you to a super bowl? I say no.

If Mac Jones or Stidham becomes a legitimate passer none of this will matter.

Julio currently has zero rings and he's the best WR of his generation.

Because football is a one man team with only a WR out there playing. My goodness was a post
