Mac Jones blowing away Patriots coaches and teammates

I'll probably wait for him to actually have had a singular training camp with the team

All I know is that they said Tom Brady was blowing away coaches and teammates in training camp. Then they say Stidham was blowing away coaches and teammates.

So Mac Jones is going to end up somewhere between Brady and Stidham.

I am refusing to let some of you ruin this moment for me d@mnit. Mac Jones is our guy...

That narrows it down a lot!

I've yet to see a story where the coaches think the new guys "sucks" or "can't play a lick". This is all smoke, he hasn't even had a padded practice yet.

By the way this whole "there will never be another Brady" thing is unimportant in 2021.

Part of what has made Brady great is his longevity and his playing on championship caliber teams. Mac doesn't have to become another Brady to have Brady-type production in the passing game.

Early in his career Tom was a game manager who grew into the GOAT, he wasn't Peyton Manning/Andrew Luck or even Justin Herbert/Joe Burrow out of the gate slinging the ball all over the place for big yardage & TD totals... in fact he didn't play his rookie season. And in his second season, first starting, he averaged 189 yards passing a game, 64% completions at a modest 6.8 yards per attempt with 18 TD's and 12 INT's.

What Tom did well once he stopped throwing picks, which didn't happen until right up to the playoffs, was not turn the ball over. He took what defenses were giving him and listened to his experienced coaches. In the 2001 playoffs he only threw 97 passes in three games, had 62% completions at a measly 5.9 yards per attempt (check downs) one TD and one INT.

This reimagining that Tom came in and dominated and that's why they won a ring is the stuff of Brady fanboys who were too young or inexperienced to understand what they were actually witnessing.

Mac Jones has to be good, if we're lucky he'll become great... whether he becomes a champion or anything like Brady will have more to do with the team around him and luck (health) assuming he is good/great.

They say that by cutting the player, by keeping him low on depth charts, by having him start 4th quarters of exhibition games, and the like.

The year before Brady took over, Bledsoe averaged only 205.7 passing yards per game and 6.2 yards per attempt. Also, Brady went without an interception in 9 of his games that 2001 regular season. And, also, Brady had 3 fourth quarter game winning drives in 2001.

While it's certainly true that the Patriots of the early to mid 2000s was a team based upon defense and ball control, you're trying to push that to an extreme, in an effort to minimize what early Brady was doing. The re-imagining here is coming from you.

Just to add a couple of things to this:

Brady's INT% was 13th in the NFL in his 2001 season (on 12 ints), which certainly isn't bad for a first year QB, and his TD% was 12th.. His completion percentage was 4th in the NFL. His passer rating was 6th. The 3 regular season comebacks mentioned above put him behind only 3 players that season. In terms of the raw numbers, he was 13th in TDs, and he threw fewer, or the same number of, INTs than 22 other QBs.

And all of that is before we get to his 2 game winning drives in those playoffs.

Ah yes the world according to wozzi. Jesus anything ti diminish Brady fan boy here. Stat this stat that. In the clutch when we need a 1st down or a game winning drive or possession is what will define Mac Jones. If hes even in the same neighborhood as Brady was in terms if example and inspiring other players ill be ecstatic.

The quantum leap in talent added between the 2000 and 2001 season is easily recognizable. BB took over a team with cap issues, with mostly poor talent and flipped the majority of the roster with value vet free agents and draft picks. The better part of the offensive and defensive lines looked completely different in one season.

Also Tom took over as a starter then went on an offensive tear right?

Wrong, they slaughtered the Colt's 31st ranked defense, then lost their very next game against the much more formidable Miami Dolphins. What we saw in 2001 was the entire team improve from the first third of the season and that included the QB play becoming more efficient. Tom was crucial down the stretch in nip/tuck games in not turning the ball over and doing his job... the idea he carried any of those early teams is revisionist history. Mac Jones doesn't have to be superman, he has to play well... that's all.

So Mac has to play well, and any comment that doesn't immediately put Tom on a god-like pedestal at 21 is an insult... even if it's just reciting his stats or reminding fanboys of how it actually happened. Got it.

I agree with Mac having to play well but you have this OCD that makes you have to diminish Brady's full worth and importance and take unsolicited shots at the majority of us that see it differently. Are you the one on the left or the right?

I don't diminish Brady's anything... I demystify the QB position for ridiculous fans who think one player is the difference between one ring and six... this isn't basketball.

You need good QB play, you need players who perform in the clutch or any other time, that describes just about every player who contributed to that 2001 championship. Jermaine Wiggins and JR Redmond made clutch plays down the stretch in both the Raiders playoff game and the Super Bowl... so did Adam Vinatieri.

The Pats were always one of the best conditioned, best prepared teams in the NFL... this was true decades later when Malcolm Butler recognized a play in the Seattle Super Bowl because Ernie Adams had them prepared for it and Brandon Browner not only reminded him of it but jammed the other WR so Butler could make the play. TEAM

Mac Jones doesn't need super powers, he needs to do his job and check it down to the RB when that's all there is.

You really suck at this, and that's why you have to move the goalposts, or build and slay strawmen, with almost every entry you make. Where did I say that there was an offensive tear? Where, given my comment that specifically noted "While it's certainly true that the Patriots of the early to mid 2000s was a team based upon defense and ball control" did I say that Brady had to carry those teams?

Bledsoe was 0-2 with the same 2001 team. The data is the data. The reality of the comebacks/GWD is the reality. The playoff run is legendary. Also, Brady started 2001 with 5 straight games without an interception, as his interception games came later.

And none of that is about anything but that 2001 season. It doesn't even get into Brady having 5 fourth quarter comebacks/game winning drives in 2003, for example. It doesn't get into Brady being in the top 10 in passer rating every year as a starter before his 2008 injury, or leading the league in passing TDs in 2002, and then going 10th/6th/3rd/4th from 2003-2006, or being in the top 10 in yards passing every year from 2002-2006. It doesn't get into a whole host of things that demonstrate just how important he was to those early teams from 2002 - 2006.

Get a better schtick. It's one thing to support current players. It's a sillier thing to bag on previous players just because they're gone. And it's basically defcon1 level ridiculousness for someone who claims to be a Patriots fan to be trying to rewrite history in order to make Brady look like a lesser player and contributor than he is and was.
