Teddy Bridgewater to the Broncos .... clearing the path for a NE QB?

Darnold is not a viable starter. Carolina is picking 8th. Right now with no trades, they are in line to get the 4th QB off the board. They also are high enough where they can trade the least to get Atlanta’s pick if they feel pressure.

Why waste valuable picks on him then? Your argument makes no sense

I think this means Denver is definitely out on QBs. If they were planning on drafting one high, what would be the point of acquiring Bridgewater even as a bridge type guy when Lock is already there and could do the same thing?

I think Carolina is likely out too, especially when you consider they may end up with the first overall pick in next year's draft with Darnold as their QB (jk....or am i?)

So they traded for him to hold a clipboard?

All this pre-draft maneuvering is making this the most intriguing NFL draft in many, many years.
Yet in the end BB typically does something more mystifying than intriguing, and usually disappointing for those who think like fantasy football players.

I smell a lot of optimism bias on this board in general and this thread in particular.

Keep in mind this is how our last five first rounds went down:

So, not to piss in anyone's Garoppolos, but the restructure does set up an interesting, though expensive, bluff for the Broncos. Because they're only on the hook for $3m of the guaranteed money, they can easily move on from Teddy B. even after just trading for him.

No shot Falcons trade back to a division rival to help them get a player while potentially missing out on the #1 player on their board.

Denver is still in the mix. Teddy is a backup for a 6th rounder, not a starter.

Carolina has Darnold. I don't think they take a QB.
Actually, I think they’d both still take QBs. Bridgewater is damaged goods and a back-up at best. Darnold is a reclamation project. If Lance, Jones, and/or Fields fall, I can very easily see those two teams still being players. The draft is deep with tackles and WRs. Not so much at QB after the first round.

True, but this is the first time in twenty years that Bill is coming off a losing season.

It is also the first time in that same time span where there is such a glaring need at quarterback (even if he never acknowledges that fact publicly).

We would have to get to 4 or 7 for one of the top 5 QBs

Excellent point about trading within the division, it's not going to happen....It seems the closer we get to the draft, the more likely Atlanta will not trade out of 4 and will make Pitts their selection.

Could be good news on both jg and rookie Qb fronts (if the jg to broncos rumors ever had any cred )

Chris, I think we can forget about trading up to 4, we'd have to give up too much and from all accounts, Atlanta is now more inclined to make that selection(most likely Pitts)

Definitely an intriguing situation, all I'm saying is be prepared at some level for disappointment, it's more likely than not. So many teams can honestly say they need to improve at QB. If we were serious about taking a different tact, I think we would have made the kind of move SF did in the same time frame they did, now we're in the "sloppy seconds" category. The realities of supply and demand say we're going to need a massive amount of luck to get a quality QB starter given the current situation.

Meanwhile, here's a relevant tweet on the Teddy situation:

Nothing was mystifying about those

2016 was stolen because nfl refused to acknowledge science

2017 was used to trade for a #1 WR long before the draft

2018 needed an OT & RB (in fact report is Belichick would have used those picks to try to trade up if Mayfield fell)

2019 WR was a need

2020 traded out because they had to recoup a 2nd round pick because Brady was having a hissy fit because Antonio Brown couldn't stay off his phone
