You left out the most important missing piece. Coaching. We used to be able to coach around our weak spots. The OL via injury and poor drafting and signing was probably more than coaching away but everything else could have been overcome.
The rookie QB gives me vibes on how a legendary QB used to make up for things... Drake is that guy!

Imagine the kid with coaching from someone like Kevin O'Connell and weapons like they have in MIN. Woof.
O'connell was a bust at QB but is a heck of an offensive mind. Doesn't hurt having Jefferson and TJ hockenson either!

Vikings have to be the best team in the league at picking WR.

Moss, Jefferson, Diggs(5th round), Addison, Thielen(UDFA)

Why can't the Pats do that?

11-2 Who’da thunk it!! Guess he’s no longer “seeing ghosts”!!

Darnold showed some signs of life with Carolina going 4 - 2 late in the year and looked good last year in San Francisco.

He always seems to be in demand regardless of how bad he was early in his career. Clearly the league sees a good QB in Darnold - he was drafted 3rd overall after all.

Is there a posibility that Darnold has always been good, but his career arc was delayed by a dysfunctional situation? Baker Mayfield and Geno Smith suggest it's possible.

For those questioning how important WR and coaching is to a team
Sam Darnold is now 11-2 with the first place Minnesota Vikings with 28TD passes
Yes… the Sam Darnold who was eviscerated & pilloried by the patriot community for being a draft bust as a NY Jet. He was a mockery.
He’s no joke anymore. Did he suddenly improve his game exponentially? Or is his remarkable improvement based on two all pro level WRs lighting it up weekly..Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. Drafted at 22 and 23 overall…both these guys have turned water into wine at the QB position. Elite separation and playmaking ability. Replace Jefferson and Addison with Bourne and Douglas and Vikings would be 2-11.

This is how we build for Drake Maye…in today’s NFL. OL and Pass Rush are vital, but start here. Add explosiveness to our offense!
Hard disagree.

Put Bourne and Douglas on the Vikings and they would improve as much as KJ Osborn deteriorated coming from the Vikes to Foxboro.

Vikings have an OL that’s enough better than the Pats’ dumpster fire that their QB, be it Cousins or Darnold, can use the running game and take time to make good throws.

It's a combination. More than just about any sport, you HAVE to at least be competent at all positions. Ideally, you want all parts to be better than competent. If one area is way above competent, it can make the other areas better. A QB has to trust that he'll have SOME time to make the correct decisions. He has to have SOME trust a WR will run the correct route and get open. And you could go on about each part of the offense...

For my money, the more sustainable element is the OL play. You get a good group together, you can start making average players look much better.

Always brings a smile when we realize the ineptitude and idiocy of the NY Jets... both Darnold and Smith make them look like they do not know what they are doing... something most of us have known for a long time now.
Now they hooked their wagon to Aaron.. hopefully they continue to make bad decisions.

Hmm. Here I m thinking SpongeBob has been trying to emulate the Rooneys when his actual model owner is Woody Johnson...

look at Cousins now
One thing Atlanta should have known, though he plays like a world beater at times: Cousins is a playoffs choker. They invested a lot in him last FA: kudos to him and his agent Atlanta is going to regret that contract.

HA! Thanks for the laugh

Addison and Jefferson display explosive quick twitch speed and separation ability that Mourne and Soda Pop Douglas could only dream of.

Brock Purdy looking like a beneficiary of the triangle who would be a JAG on a crappy team.

I am not part of that crew that denigrates Mr. Kraft at any opportunity..

What a story for Sam Darnold. This is an example of why top prospects coming out for the draft need to be more selective on which teams to play for. However, they don't pay attention to the details like we do so Darnold was probably obviously to the Jets dysfunction and who the HC was. I blame many of these QB's Agents for this.
