DRAFT BGC 2021 Pre-Draft/Patriot-Type Prospect(s) thread

Interesting take. I think Shanahan doesn't like that Garoppolo scrambles/bails and has reigned in his ability to make his own reads, which is why there's been friction there for quite a while with the pieces not fitting. The Shanahan stuff started in Washington with Senior Shanahan preferring Cousins to RGIII. Of course, Kyle was at that time the OC.

Betting odds have the two of them roughly even for the #3 overall pick.

From everything I've read and heard it's availability-durability and what you were alluding to. Jimmy just melting in the pocket at times. So agree there. Anyone watching Kyle can see he's annoyed and ready to move on. That team is ready to roll rn.

Plus I think people think they think they know what Shanahan wants but a few things are clear to me.

Again Kyle makes a lot of QB's look good but only for so long. The magic runs out and eventually like everyone else he needs something from the position. Whether it's OL injuries and you need more physically and mentally. Tough defense, bad night and need your QB to make a bunch a NFL passes and plays. Jones can certainly run the offense but I don't think he maximizes it.

Nice job by Baldy again highlighting a player suddenly nobody wants to draft in the first round

If the Pats were to take Harris in the 2nd round, I wouldn't be against it. I think that having a three headed hydra in the backfield would make it scary for opposing teams.

He's going in the first imo. I think we'll have two RB go. Probably Harris & ETN. He's going to be a great player imo. When people talk about maturity, building blocks etc he's exactly that type of player. I love everything about him. Best rec RB in the class. Love his patience, footwork and feel for setting up his blocks. So good.

Steelers, jete or someone else will grab him round one for sure imo.

Im sure there are teams thinking him in the 1st, the “nobody“ part was directed to the “mockers“, “analytics“.
No matter how many times receivers “fall“ and RBs go “higher than expected“ etc they will be banging the same drum.

Id be hard pressed to draft RB in the 1st bc the value is not there but sometimes you just draft a playmaker you trust and can plug him week 1. Its true that its not 100% snaps position, more injury prone, wear and tear prone but its also a rare position where you can be pretty certain you'll get full production from day 1 while most others are losing significant games/snaps on rookie contract due to need of development..

Agreed. I'd value you a ton. I'm not a RB round 1 guy even though I hate coming across as "absolute" or black and white.

But that's exactly why you draft Harris. Hes a plug and play, day one production guy you're never worrying about off the field. Anyone interested should hear him speak. Grounded but a thinker. Humble. Hard working. Been talking with M Lynch and other pros about the business. A lot of coaches value that.

I'm thinking him and ETN get in round one.

About the only draft thing we've seen take a massive turn lately is the ridiculous turn on the QBs to the point where pocket passers are now "lower ceiling" players just by being pocket passers. And, as for taking an RB in the first round, it's pretty much like every other non-ST position: If he's a first round talent, you should feel free to take him in the first round.

I legit could not care about 99% of what draft analyst have to say. I really don't pay attention to mocks or reports. Justis is the best.
Athletic consensus big board is useful imo bc most are going by their sources mixed in with a few decent guys that could help in any draft room.

Athletic big board is actually useless bc its behind paywall :)

Justis & co is def useful. Some things will not age well (like all couch bb) but is in some respects closest to how i can see it fwiw.

Ill post some comments in the Draft Board thread bc i think this discussion belongs there..

I wonder what the story is with Collins. That's a lot of weight to add since then. Perhaps he drops a bit because of it? As long as it's not bad weight, that's ideal size for our multiple defense. Hightower and Vrabel both played around that size. Gives him more outside versatility. He's not as much of a thumper as they were, and less suited to playing on the line, but he's significantly better in space. If we don't go QB, Smith and Collins would be an excellent 1-2 start, sticking with the theme of players perceived to be falling.

From what I've read, teams want to try Collins at EDGE. I think he's a pretty dynamic athlete, but I don't see him as a full time end of the line player. He's better in space. Regardless, if he's showing versatility, I don't think the weight will hurt his stock at all.

I think he looked natural in space to me which is given his size and weight rare...I would try him there as well rather than edge Hand in the dirt. OlB stand up guy Yeah I can imagine that but in our defense i think him and HT at LB with KvN and Judon at OLB would be huge.

Too bad we can not have Collins, Paye and Horn :)
