Marcus Mariota stays with Raiders on massive pay cut.
So our options are Newton Stidham trade for Darnold, trade for Jimmy G trade for Minshew or go to the draft.
What does Everyone think Patriots will do?
Cousin, Again, this makes the cheese more binding.
We do not have to CAP for any more big signings but there are a few more smaller seals that make sense.....unfortunately not at QB.

Cheap signings of some veteran help that we can still get done:

Coraddell Paterson WR/RB/KR (30)
We need a WR and a RB to add. Why not invite Coraddell Paterson back? He know our system.....This is huge for our complecated routes. He can be an added piece to the backfield and has success doing it at over 6 yards per carry. Yes a 5th WR but he is alos one of the best KR in the NFL. Whay could he not be our third down back? He has more speed than White. Solves two needs. (Estimate $2MM)

Geno Atkins: DT (32)
Bill has always had respect for the man. His quickness may be off a step. He missed the 2020 season with shoulder surgery in December, so in essence less wear and tear on the rest of his body.. ($4MM plus incentives)

Ryan Kerrigan OLD/PASS RUSH (32)
He can set the edge. In his ten year career he has nad almost 96 sacks, and 147 QB hits. Closest thing to a Seau pick up. Moved out of his starting slot because of rookie phenom Chase Young.. Always a compelling effort from Kerrigan.. He could easily be a 10 sack guy here even on a reduced role. Team leader. ($3MM plus incentives)

O.K You don't like the last two? s wap their salaries and get me Clowney but for 3 years. He's only 28 and even without his sack totals is one of the most disruptive D Linemen in the NFL. (would he do $7MM<$8MM, $9MM for three years with incentives? You have to game plan for him.

So three players who might still dominate a few games for under $10MM. Our goal is playoffs. Then see what happens. That means 4 more wins or so. Can we go from 7-9 to 11-5?

Trade route?
Rumored Michael Gallup (WR Cowboy) for Gilmore? Might consider that. He's not spectacular but this helps the CAP.

Still like the Harry plus a 4th Rounder for OBJ possibility.

Thoughts?

Yeah. It makes no sense that they would lose games on purpose to get the 1st overall pick - I mean the guys who would be responsible for ordering something like that were all fired anyway so what did they get out of it? And it would have been leaked and the NFL would have investigated and the punishment would have been severe. That's why no team does that.

The 2011 Colts really were that terrible without Peyton Manning.

Agreed. The only way it could have happened was if Irsay (the one guy who can't be fired) basically told everyone on the team to lose, and that never came out. The head coach was fired, so why would he willingly play inferior players? The GM is another matter, because I'm guessing owners can veto any trades/moves anyway, so his inaction doesn't say much either way.

No doubt they didn't do everything they could to make the team better once they knew it was a lost season. But the deliberate tanking angle is overplayed.

They could have had someone better than Painter as their back-up QB. Painter never should have taken a snap in the NFL

The Patriots want players who love to work hard and weed out those who don’t. Wilson wouldn’t last a day here.

If two respected Belichick understudies, Vrabel and Flores, gave up on him within the first (and likely last) year of his professional career, I wouldn’t expect Belichick to waste time and resources. But you’re right, it’s a shame because it’s a waste of talent.

dude saw his career ending got trading and still gave no **** and was released a week later and someone thinks he could be saved lol

Painter 6 TD 9 INT
Cam last year 8 TD 10 INT - excluding the last game it's 5 TD 10 INT

One of these things is just like the other... :D

Tanking is not overplayed, when the bolded part is really the only form of tanking that actually ever happens. This is precisely how they tanked. Sit at #1 on the waiver wire, with plenty of cap room, and yet pass on every single waived player that shows up there, including players at positions of need. It requires only an involved owner with veto power over waiver acquisitions.

They did have someone better as the backup.
Part of the problem was Caldwell is not a good NFL head coach. Sub .300 in the NCAA - nuff said. He was in over his head in a very tough situation.

He was carried to the Super Bowl in 2009 by his all world QB who pretty much did all his coaching work for him.

Just goes to show you...

And that should not be controversial IMO. Teams do that a lot. I'm sure they understood the season was lost so why bother trying to salvage it.

But a lot of people think they lost games on purpose. That does not, never has and never will happen in this league.

Indy cleaned house, why would they fire everyone if they were all on board with tanking? Irsay did them dirty if that is the case and nobody has said a word about it and we know how salty Polian is.

Exactly. The Team president, GM and coach and all staff were fired and half the roster was purged. They all got no benefit from losing games on purpose so what would be in it for them? I can't see them agreeing to such a scheme.

Imagine if it was leaked and Commissioner #Integrity found out about it. The punishment would be devastating.

Remember when news like this would have us salivating. Literally any warm body at the position was an upgrade hahaha. I do not miss those days

The Pats already have way too many players signed. I was at OTC and was cutting everyone and still couldn't get to 53 without axing a few guys that everyone expects to make the roster.

No way the Pats have room for the 10 draft picks. I expect a few veterans to get traded before or during the draft.

Veterans that I wouldn't be shocked if they got traded:
Devin McCourty-traded not cut, has two years of voids on his contract after this one
Gilmore-makes more to extend him, but something has to be done, he isnt playing for 7 mil. Why load up on UFAs and then dump your best player?
Hightower-I would keep him, but he has a very high cap number and coming off a year away

Cuts:
Bolden
Lacosse
King
Vitale
Spence
Bower
Keene( maybe too soon to punt on him)
Virgin
Cunningham
and the two kickers

So I don't see the Pats making anymore FA signings (outside of camp bodies), unless they start unloading players.

Bolden, King and Keene are the only ones I hesitate over but they sure aren't roster locks.

Really, how many rushing TDs did Painter have in that case?

How many drives that led points?
