I don't think of AD as a counter at all. AD was excellent his first year and great his second year with the Pats.

Whatever it was that caused his 3rd year plummet doesn't change the fact that he was a big contributer to the perfect season and the Matt Cassell 11-5 season. He was a great signing then fell off the cliff

I think the problem with Thomas is Belichick added a bunch of turds that year (howyadoing, Shawn Springs). At least a bunch of guys with bad work ethics and bad attitudes. I think Thomas fell in with those guys and he just didn't want to work and got into it with the coaches. And I think with Brady out, I am guessing many players wrote off the season.

I can't remember exactly what it was, but Terrell Owens said recently on his YouTube channel that AD had issues with Bill. Didn't he get sent home for showing up late in '09? Other rumors were he just didn't like what Bill wanted him to do on D ala Michael Bennett.

Brady played in '09. I think AD was pissed about his injury in '08.

Yeah I also think AD started to lose a step which greatly impacted his play on the field.

Yeah he definitely went from wearing a humble pie t-shirt to hating Bill

Who is Mike Tanier and why is his opinion on the Belichick's football decision worth a thread? And why is this troll thread not bushed?

4-5 years of drafting 31 or 32, and losing your franchise QB because you had run out of money after 20+ years of success.

It was bound to happen, lets see what happens now.
It is both. I still don't understand why we drafted Jojuan Williams. We didn't need him at the time and the following year he is bypassed by Dugger. Picks like that could've been used on tight ends etc.

Belichick has a pretty damn good history of building rosters. Tearing them down.....rebuilding. Idk who the **** this dude is.

Mike Tainer is well respected among football analysts.

Yeah I'm joking. I have no clue who the hell he is and why we should be listening to what he says.

Williams is one of my most hated picks recently. He wasn't a need at the time and still isn't needed. That 2nd round pick should've been another WR or TE. However, the TE's have been pretty bad in that 2nd round range.

It has paid off for the Pats in the past. Off the top of my head, Wes Welker's last year in Miami was by far the best year of his then young career. Stephon Gilmore kinda fits in this category because his last year with the Bills was by far his best, but he was injured the year before.

The Pats haven't really added many free agents who had their best year the year before the Pats' signed them. So it is hard to see how good they are at picking out players who just overperformed in a contract year vs. players who are just emerging as players at an opportune time.

But let's face it. Picking up players on a down year can be a crap shoot too. The Pats have a lot of hits and a lot of busts in players in this category.

Most of the players they signed today (or agreed to deals that will be signed on Wednesday) are still young and at the age when they would break out to be the best they will be even if they weren't in a contract year. So it hard to tell why last year was their best year.
The cap is low this year because of the covid cap reduction.

Lots of players getting dropped or not getting offers from their current teams because those teams have no cap.

A lot of these players on their 2nd contract would normally not be hitting the market.

Supply is high which drives price, win for us.

Next year league revenue should be up overall due to more attendance in stadiums and probably some media deals too, so the cap should go up, a lot.

This is the year to spend, IMO.

Fcking Debbie Downer thread. Go away!

How is this a Debbie downer thread? Seems to me that everyone posting here is saying that crap is nonsense.

If anything this thread is positive because ppl are excited for the FAs this year

That dude is a tool. I'm not sure when fantasy football "experts" on twitter became experts on building a winning football team but it's really annoying. I only saw this stupid tweet because Warren Sharp liked it, Sharp is usually decent but has been similarly snarky on Pats stuff today.

Belichick of a few years ago would probably agree with him.

These moves scream “New York Jets” far more than New England Patriots.

Bills are going to rule for a long time as long as decisions like these are being made.

Just my opinion.

A little hyperbolic to call it a disaster and there’s no evidence of that here. They went from complete zero at TE and WR to something resembling offensive weapons. Wouldn’t say their problems on offense and defense last year are close to solved but they took a step that way going into FA and draft and added depth. It’s not a one year rebuild.

Sharp is a long time Patriots hater. Dolphins fan I think. Not exactly objective when it comes to NE.
