Player Signing Cam newton resigned 1 year deal

I mean, on the field, I don't like the move. For my personal entertainment while reading this board, I'm all for it !
Haha I feel the same way. I'm not thrilled with the move but hopefully it drives away more of the bandwagon babies who fill the stadium every week.

For cam newton and the Patriots sake I hope last year was due to the garbage receivers, no offseason and covid. Because going from a guy who threw 23 tds in 2018 to 8 is just sad. But he also had over 100 less pass attempts and he played 2 extra games in 2020.

And in my mind there's no way Bill brings him back if he thinks last season was all due to cam newton. To be fair we probably don't even win 7 games with Stidham.
Which would've been fine with me...at least 1) we would know without doubt what Stid the Kid is and is not; and 2) we would be in better position to draft the QB of the Future, instead of being where we are now.

1. no preseason games
2. not signed until July
3. No training camp
4. COVID19
5. No WRs
6. No TE's
7, First year in Patriots system

He will be much better next year....period
If much better means sucking ass less often than we all know he will, then I agree.

That's what happens when people cherry pick their draft results to post. Note the absence of terrible drafts being posted.

NFL Drafting Efficiency, 2010-2019 suggests over the last decade NE was in the top quarter (8th) of teams when comparing draft results vs draft capital and was in the top half (15th) over the last five years. Clearly this means our last five years weren't as good as the previous five, but they also were above average.

Clearly KC has been on a good run of form. Unfortunately for us, so has BUF.

Compare to the bottom 8 over the last decade (hello, Jete, also worst team over the last five years!)

The article's conclusion:

We should be pretty happy with what we have, it could be far worse.

Too bad people prefer to ***** and moan about how terrible things are.
Stop looking at those damn bingo cards or whatever the hell they are and actually look at the people Bill drafted, where he drafted them, and whom he left on the board...

I would say he is our 1st game starter. No Rookie is going to start for Bill. My question is in Bill we trust over? How many years do we need to see here to evaluate. His last 2 drafts where awful. I don't get it.

Be careful with the tone criticising BB. Mods might shut this thread down. End every post with “but maybe BB was right” for safe measure.

I’m not sure how anyone could disagree with us.

I disagree with him. I think the worst decision BB ever took was getting rid of Brady. This might be the second worst decision.

You’ve clowned yourself to point no one takes what you think seriously.

Given the reaction that folks like DMac had, it might not be logical, But it might well work.
Dmacs reaction was newton is fun to talk to. Players don’t make career decisions based upon who is fun to talk to.

"piece of sh*t"? What the hell did the guy do to you? sheesh.

Besides the fact that he struggled playing the quarterback position at times last season, what do you have against the guy?
didn't like him in Carolina and don't like him here - he is a showboater and an about me type of guy - never was fond of flashy guys and besides all of this, the guy is washed,he can't throw accurately to save his life and his legs aren't what they were - not expecting another Tom Brady here but this goof is closer to Marc Wilson at this point in his career -will root for the team of course despite if he starts as I have for 45 years, but i am hoping for someone else to take over and put him on the backup role at best

It's what I was going for. Thanks mate! Appreciate the vote of confidence.

I love the notion that "I don't criticize moves I believe are crappy because I am a true fan!". If you're a true fan you should care about the team. If the team re-signs a player who is about as crappy as it gets why would you pretend not to care?

And do we really want players to sign here because they want to go hat shopping with Newton? We used to make fun of teams for that stuff.

No the worst decision BB ever made hands down was having someone videotape the Jets sidelines in week 1 of 2007. Benching Butler and throwing away a Super Bowl is up there too. Nothing else comes close to those two. Both of those decisions would have been fireable if it was any other coach.

As for Cam, I want to see what other shoe drops. Bringing back a QB who can't throw a football is just stupidity unless there's something else that's going to happen to make that move irrelevant. Hopefully.

As for Cam, I want to see what other shoe drops before I judge the move. Bringing back a QB who can't throw a football is just stupidity unless there's something else that's going to happen to make that move irrelevant.
If we cut him after he helps us bring talented receiver and we draft a Qb in the 1st round, I’m fine with it.

Letting Brady play in a different uniform is Bill's biggest mistake. Even bigger considering he had no backup plan.

If that hopefully young 1st round QB beats Cam for his job in camp - works for me too.
