Wrong. It's looking at the way teams build. The year in question came right after an 11-5 year. The first years aren't being ignored. They are part of a process of building.

Yes except for the fact that the Ravens went on to win 24 games in 4 years while drafting the foundational pieces along the way for a super bowl in 2000. It’s not like the Browns moved to Baltimore then immediately won with what Bill had in place. They had 4 terrible years. Why are all Bill’s bad seasons in Cleveland treated as the outlier while the 11-5 season is held up as the “see he was great before Brady!” and seen as a sign of things to come? There’s a solid chance Bill flames out here if Drew didn’t get hurt and Bill becomes a footnote in the history of New England football.

By the way, the Ravens coach was Ted Marchibroda for crying out loud. Patriots fans remember this guy well from the mid 1970s. Holy cow, the fact that Modell hired this guy in the late 1990s says everything about why they were losers.

So you’ve been backed into a corner and now you’re just lashing out. You said the years prior to his 11-5 season in Cleveland were the “process of building”. If what he “built” was in place then why did his build only manage a single winning season? You can’t give Bill credit for building a team but then not give him any blame for how the team he build never won games.

Well, Brady proved he still had it this year so there was no point in moving on from him really. Brady wouldn't have brought this team a Super Bowl this year BUT still there didn't seem to be a point in moving on.

I suppose it's possible that this year Brady will flame out badly in Tampa Bay, which might make the lack of a 2 year offer look better in retrospect, but I seriously doubt it. Not to mention that the money saved in 2021 would have to be put to very good use by the Patriots.

The Pats could have kept Brady this past year and fought hard for a wild card berth and be one and done in the playoffs. The Pats were going nowhere in 2020 with or without Brady. So say if letting Brady go allows the Pats in position to draft say Mac Jones (they wouldn't be with Brady here last year) and Jones wins the Pats 2-3 Super Bowls, the Pats were better off letting Brady go. I am just throwing out a hypothetical. We won't know the real ramifications good or bad of the departure of Brady to this team for several years.

If the Pats were Brady away from being a contender, what Brady was this year would mean more. If the Pats reload next year and fail because of the QB and Brady is still a top QB and wins the Super Bowl, then we can talk.

I think the thing people are missing about the Brady argument is that the 2020 Patriots had far more issues than missing Brady in any Super Bowl puzzle.

I'll be clear on this.

I have zero issue with fans supporting Tom over BB.

I have zero issue with saying BB is an idiot for not trying to do more to keep Tom. As everyone knows I disagree because of the complexity of the situation but whatever.

What I do have a serious issue with are fans who believe BB was some fringe role-player in building the dynasty and wanting him to go to hell.

I also have a major problem with posters who say they are no longer are Patriots fans because Tom left but still come here and bash the team.

I think the fans who don't support the team are a very tiny minority but get a lot of ink here because this thread was created for the purpose of being critical of Belichick.
