He went on to say that the reason was “he didn’t feel well “. It also reads like Butler just saying something to put it behind him and concentrate on, you know, earning the large contract the Titans just gave him despite him being such an easily distracted CB.

This how flimsy the Belichick apologists argument is that they bring up Butler “speculating” about why Belichick did it as their smoking gun that the benching was merited. It’s ok folks, Belichick screwed up, but he paid the biggest price for his mistake by denying himself from being the only coach to win 3 straight SBs.

Just watched the Greg Bedard podcast episode where the question of Caserio being phased out was the topic and he said BB has been known to go rogue on drafting and ignores what his player personnel suggest the direction to go. Rumor has it, they suggested BB go heavy on offense, but he used the first 3 picks on D.

This is the 2nd person I've seen along with Lazar being the other that suggest BB has been known to go rogue when drafting despite what his player personnel may suggest.

So basically the blame for the poor drafts is with BB. That's what is getting confirmed by the insiders.

Also I find it remarkable he keeps trying to stack the secondary to help our secondary coach look good............ which happens to be his son. How many 2nd round picks have we wasted on CBs/Safeties in the 2nd round that were a reach and unnecessary.

But at least he did it HIS way. This is the "price". Losing the SB while your QB and offense is playing lights out, is the price.

Is Bill Belichick sabotaging the Patriots on purpose?

Very good podcast. Guy makes some great points.

Chris Broussard: Tom Brady makes Bill Belichick look foolish after winning Super Bowl LV

Greg Jennings says Brady was looking for more input in the offense and wasn't allowed. Not sure his source. Might be making it up.

Bill needs to take a break on DB's. It's becoming a sickness.

I can't remember where I heard this too but the rumor is that Brady was mad at McDaniels for not being able to have input in the offense which I find hard to believe.

FIRST TAKE | Stephen A. "ridiculous" Bill Belichick on Cam Newton: That is my QB

Stephen A. says BB loves Cam, and showed him lots of empathy and love and kind words. Says he's never seen BB be so complimentary of a player playing as poorly as Cam was. And that BB really wants to give Cam another chance. I think there's some truth to this and I find this crazy. Why was BB so stiff about Brady "it's not like it's open heart surgery" when Brady wins a playoff game with a gashed hand. While going out of his way to gush about Cam's effort and heart despite his pathetic play.

Cam was 30 of 33 in QBR rating and Pats were ranked 27th in offense. Why the love for Cam?

Why Nick Saban & Belichick Had to Hide Their Friendship from Bill Parcells | The Rich Eisen Show

Nick Saban talks about how he and BB hid their bromance and love affair from Parcells' rage and disapproval. But unfortunately for Patriots fans it truly blossomed once BB became GM/HC and every draft prospect under Saban got shoved straight to our roster as a reach on the draft.

I guess we're trading up to take Mac Jones in the draft. Ugh.

Ryan Clark reacts to Patriots are interested Trevor Lawrence to replace Cam Newton

I found it interesting the discussion that the Patriots have the best cap space but the word on the street is that it's ironic that every FA wants to avoid NE like the plague especially WRs or TEs since they don't know who'll be throwing to them and it could tank their career.

Sounds like Pats will have to pay up. Quite a difference from the discounts BB used to get because of Brady.

This is why it’s been a debate going on 4 years now. You have those who will say butler is taking the high road and those who say butler admitted he wasn’t “locked in” that week. Maybe more details will come out eventually but I’m not holding my breath.

BB the drafter is killing BB the coach

It will but only when Butler's playing career is done so he doesn't jeopardize his career and financial security.

[LIVE] UNDISPUTED | Shannon "furious" Belichick used Brady's low salary as negotiating tools others

Says BB abused Brady's unselfish act as an example and forced others into lower contracts to stay on this team. I think we all know this. But implication is that BB is going to struggle to pull this off now. Also implication that his Amendola or Asante chirping now about their depressed salaries is only the start of players coming out to take potshots at him.

Bill Belichick must come up with answer to Tom Brady’s title

Steve Serby at NY Post says that pressure on BB has definitely ratcheted up due to Brady's SB win. And considering all the cap space he has now, and has the losing year out of the way to fix the cap, there are no excuses now.

Patriots 4-round 2021 NFL mock draft 1.0: Bill Belichick is on the clock

Tarringo Basile-vaughan points out that BB doesn't have the luxury of using low-round draft picks as an excuses for the poor drafts anymore. They are picking the highest they have in 18 years courtesy of their losing record, and must now deliver with a good draft.

Looking at all these recently posted story links, one would think that some dirty secret had been unearthed. But the truth is, we've all known how BB was designing the team for more than a decade. Patriots fans loved it when it was working due to the Brady buy in. Now, we're going to see how it works without that. Year one results were terrible, but that doesn't mean that the future results will be the same.

Yep, time to either trade up for a QB or get a big time front 7 player. No more DB's or trade downs!

This is what scares me. Bill has to completely change the way he builds a roster now. There is no more Brady acting as the rising tide lifting all ships. Cody Davis, and Chris Hogan aren't going to get it done anymore as he isn't supplementing a 12-4 team to bump them up to 13-3. This isn't like 2009 which I keep seeing mentioned as a "rebuild". This isn't even like 2000 when he inherited a mess but at least inside the mess Bill had some core players to build around. This roster is barebones and missing the most important position on the team and while I think Bill is a better coach than anyone I am not sure if he can put together a team that can turn into a contender given his recent track record.

Here's a breakdown of Belichick's record with Brady as his starting quarterback, Brady's TD's and INT's, compared with Belichick's record with all other quarterbacks, their combined TD's and INT's.

Belichick with all other quarterbacks (listed below)...
