Belichick criticism mega-thread

How do we know that? He was crying during the anthem after being told he was sitting. What exactly was the mental issue? He played more snaps than any other defensive back that year. He Mentally knew the defenses the Pats would run. A less than mentally ready Butler woudl have been better that what was out there. if you know what it was he did or what mental issues he was distracted by, please let us all know.
Yeah. The Eagles went something ridiculous like 12 for 18 on 3rd and 4th down. I think they only punted once. Couldn't defend the RPO. Two or three plays on those downs that changed an Eagles score into a punt or turnover and Pats win.

It doesn't matter where Butler's mind was at. There is no way that our best tackling corner wouldn't have been able to make two or three plays that would have been the difference in the outcome of this football game. That's it - just 2 or 3 plays. He didn't have to dominate like Deion Sanders or Darrelle Revis in that game.

At least by halftime it should have been apparent that Richards and BadMostly and Rowe weren't able to do that.

BB for whatever reason threw away a Super Bowl with that decision. I wish I knew why.

If Brady had retired and the Pats had the exact same season, the conversation would be different. Anyone who has been a Pats fan since before 2000 (since the 70s for me) knows what ts like to be just like all the other teams or rather worst than most. But the reaction is really because many here wanted the Pats to go all in to get every last bit of QB play out of Brady before he retired. It was the opportunity to see this otherworldly run continue if even for just a few more years. This was especially true because there was no Aaron Rogers to Steve young in waiting on the roster when the pats decided to move on from Brady. Also some of the frustration at BB is that he seems to have bought into his "do your job" mentality in the sense that someone like Brady was not special and that Brady could be replaced as easily as any other aging player. That the Patriots were better that the 31 other teams because they were smarter than all the others in terms of roster building and because they werer simply the smartest team of all it was oK to never deviate from their cost structure and to not recognizing that maybe, just maybe the QB at the heart of all of their success might, just might, have had quite a lot to do with all of that success.
Of course he had a lot to do with the success because he was their best player. And he plays the most important position.
That doesn’t mean you take credit away from 52 other players and all the coaches and pretend he did it by himself and if you put him on any random team they have the same success.

Sorry I thought people saw this.

He says he wasn't ready. Bill agreed. It's not one specific person's fault. It's just the way the week went down.

Jesus, Bill sure did a mind job on poor Malcom, has him scared shatless.

The funny thing about the Malcom Butler situation is that the casual fans or fans of other teams have no idea how bad him being out affected their D that day.

This is what people defending Bill's decision ignore. It's one thing if he spoke to Butler before the game and Butler said that he wasn't in the right midset to play. But if he was, you put his a** out there and ride or die with your best players.

But this is all under the assumption that Brady wanted to stay. I don't think he did and I'm not alone in thinking this way.

Do people really believe BB just let Brady walk? For what reason would he do that? Before the 2019 season, Belichick signed him to a weird 3 year deal that was essentially a year to year contract. In that contract, Brady demanded he not be franchised.

Why would Brady make that demand if he didn't intend on leaving?

Whether it's because of Guerrero, sitting Malcolm Butler and possibly losing as a result, being tired of living in BB's shadow, or all of the above. The damage was done and Brady was checked out.

It's just like the ridiculous argument Red Sox fans make about Mookie. The writing was on the wall. He was a Boras client who wanted to test free agency. That means he's leaving for the highest bidder.

Boston fans have this weird arrogance to them where they think all players just want to stay on our teams and it's the ownership that drives them out. In some cases, that is true. However, in many high profile cases, it's not.

Players are mercenaries who do what's best for them (as they should). In many cases, that's about finding a team desperate enough to grossly overpay them (Mookie), or look for some "respect", or look to get out of the shadow of their coach, or leave the ****ty New England weather for a sunny area.

Tl;Dr - Brady was gone. Belichick knew it when he demanded the no franchise tag. Despite the winning of the late 20teens, Brady was growing disgruntled and that's that.

^ This.

And I mean it's not like Malcolm Butler was a Super Bowl hero or anything so there's no possible way he could do any better than stiffs like Richards and BadMostly and Rowe. Totally replaceable. Makes sense right? :D

I'm sorry he was taking the high road here and obviously not wanting to get into any sort of back and forth. Hey coach, I'm not 100% focused. Ok, your out. Really? The coach would say get your a** out thee are make some plays.

No one is pretending he played 11 on 1. But it's pretty obvious he is what turned the team from a playoff contender into a Super Bowl contender.

Because if the Pats were not willing to commit to him and to building a respectable team around him, and to Brady that meant a respectable offense with more wide receiver options that Edelman with no tight ends, he wanted to leave on his own terms.

Chung covered slots all the time. The guy who was in the field instead of butler was bademosi. Rowe replaced butler. Bademosi replaced rowe. The safeties played exactly the same as they would have and did all year had butler played. The problem was we attacked Philly like the chiefs and used the Ill-fates 4 safety scheme that was invented to defend that offensive scheme.

My instinct had always been that due to a bad week of practice (and evidently focus and effort) Butler was replaced by Rowe and would have been the 3rd corner, but when he was told this before the game he melted down and belichick just sat him.
Ya, Bill uses his strong safety to cover speed WRs one on one all the time.

Well people are eliminated every game Brady played from a belichick assessment.
And what’s to say it wasn’t belichick that made a playoff contender into a SB contender?

Again why would a patriot fan try to use one to discredit the other.

Do yourself a favour and take 5 minutes to listen to these 2 clips. Will give you a lot better understanding what was going on.

I don't think it's that clean.

...and if Malcolm went to Bill and told him he wasn't 100% focused for the Super Bowl that is beyond alarming.

Because they offered him a crud contract coming off a Super Bowl victory. And then they did it again a year later. Otherwise Brady would be a New England Patriot.
So fans wanted Belichick to randomly break the bank and screw the salary cap so he could keep a 40+ year old qb who has been showing signs of decline for like four straight years?

Is that what all the crying is about?

Everything was trending down after 2016. Yards, TD, QBR, completion %, etc. The only thing trending up was his age. And Belichick being a historian of the game likely realized all indicators are pointing to the end. Yet fans wanted him to just toss out a $25m+ per year contract that would have screwed the franchise had that trend continued. Just because... Brady said he's okay?

It's so easy to GM in hindsight, but I guarantee if Brady stuck around and declined even further (which was a very real possibility due to the complete lack of receiving options), fans would be calling for BB's head for getting us into cap hell.

Unless of course people here are on crack and think the 2020 Pats would have won the Super Bowl with Brady?

We now have proof that Bill was 100% completely and utterly wrong about "pointing to the end." The only thing that sucked was the team, not the QB. Who's in charge of putting the team together?

Your post basically has nothing accurate in it.
