2020 Super Bowl Game Pre-Game Thread

I re-watched SB 42 the other day. I'll never ever understand the decision to go for it on 4th and 13th. Nor having Brady try and play bombs away with Moss with 35 seconds on the clock. Regardless, the better team did not win that game. The luckier team did.

Ridiculous decision by Belichick there. I don’t know if I’ve remember a worse risk:reward calculation by him.

I think Mahomes would restructure his contract in order to keep the team in tact. Hill, Kelce, Jones, and Mahomes are the four staples of the team. If any one of those guys had to go it would probably be Hill. But I doubt it's a decision they will need to make.
He has a 10 year deal. It is the biggest deal ever signed in NFL history. It will be an albatross for the next decade. If anything, he will be worth MORE in 3-5 years than his current deal.

I always have wondered this.

Do you think the Pats should've killed more clock before going for the go ahead TD in 2018 Title game? I forget the exact circumstances. So I may be off.
Who knows. There were 24 points scored with less than 4m to go in the game. Both Ds were cooked.

Andy called a TO with :42 sec left and we ran it in for an easy TD to make it 31-28. Under the circumstances I don't think we could have milked the clock.

Plus...if you can score, you score. Don't fool around and waste the opportunity.

How can it be an albatross when you next say he will be worth MORE in 3-5 years? Cap experts, including you-know-who, deem it a wise deal by KC, not an albatross. Only way it's an albatross is if someone like Vita Vea crushes him and he's unable to play in the NFL.

Keys for a KC win:

- Protect Mahomes.
- Use the RB in pass catching situations. Kelce & Hill will likely be blanketed all game. Go to the nearest guy. Don't force it.
- On defense, get Brady up the middle. Not from the edges. Spagnola knows this since he faced Brady in a past SB. And this year.

Bucs win:

-Absolutely no turnovers. Not on picks or fumbles. GB didn't cash in. KC will.
- No drops that kill drives. Every possession needs to be full steam ahead. TD's as the only option. Any 4th & 2= go for it. Assuming you are on KC side of the field.
- Have 3 up front to get to Mahomes. Blanket Kelce and Hill. If receivers are gonna beat you, it needs to be Watkins & Hardman.
- Use Fournette more in pass catching situations. And don't be predictable. The Bucs tend to never pass on two straight plays.
- Most importantly, Bowles needs to adapt quickly if something on defense isn't working.

How much does the Chiefs offensive line, Bucs pass rush, and Mahomes turf toe affect this? I think this is the biggest reason that offense is so great. So hard to stop on obvious passing downs...and Mahomes scrambling ability is a major favtor.

Good point. To your last paragraph, a few guys in Seattle probably agree.

It almost reeked of arrogance. As if they were playing Buffalo in the regular season. "My offense is unstoppable. Watch this".

The problem? The offense was anything but unstoppable up to that point in the game. Maroney wasn't used nearly enough either. It seemed they were going to live or die going with bombs away approach.

And I'll criticize my own coach for the 2018 Title game. Maybe it wouldn't of mattered. But the Patriots just completed their third 3rd and 10 play in OT. And you don't even call a timeout? Like why?

There are very few instances when I'd want my team to avoid scoring and only when they're ahead.
As I remember it Burkhead scored easily on a 5 or 6 yard run with 32 seconds left. I didn't think that KC would get the ball down to the 20 and still have time for another shot at the end zone, but it didn't shock me.

We talking about the Superbowl here or reminiscing about patriot loses?

Let's figure this out.

Watched a video from JT O Sullivan. He said instead of playing press man one on one with all of the chiefs weapons. Todd Bowles might try and double hill and kelce on every play and everything else is cover 0. That’s high risk high reward because if someone gets beat or falls down, the chiefs can still make a big play.

@Ian or @Ross12 can we have a mod start the OFFICIAL SB GD THREAD instead of "The Welcher?"

If Tom hadn't been sacked by Strahan on 3rd and 7 he would have kicked the FG.

It was a 7-3 game and in case of a missed FG the Gints would have had the ball at the 42 and a shorter field

It would have been Gost's longest of the year- 48yards. Quite frankly, Gost wasn't "Gost" yet. I bet if it were 2016 he'd send him out there.

So Bill managed the downside and hoped for upside.

If the NEP got a TD it would have been a 14-3 game.

So Bill decided to mitigate the field position risk and go for it.

Worst case scenario is they don't convert and it's still 7-3 Pats.

Giants failed to score the following possession so the decision didn't kill their chances.

All they had to do was stop the Giants final drive.

Whatever

Mahomes is going to once again fall back on this, and that will be his undoing tonight.

I guess. Just the odds are higher of kicking a 50 yard fg indoors vs 4th and 13th.
