Cam says he regrets not having enough time to understand what he was getting into in NE

I think it’s safe to say Cam is a better runner lol. Stid isn’t nearly the athlete Cam is. Cam is one of the best running QBs in the NFL.
Cam WAS one of the better running QBs. Not anymore. He sure had plenty of chances though, especially down near the goal line.

I know it was a different era and a MUCH better team, but Steve Grogan, the QB whose record from 1976 that Bill seems to want Cam to break, had less than half as many attempts when he set the record.

Cam is done for. He can't play quarterback any more. He's a third-rate fullback in funny hats. Can we please move on from any and all delusions to the contrary?
Apparently many are still having trouble moving on from Cant Newton. Imagine how overbearing they'd be if he didn't stink as much as he has? Also, imagine if Stidham was playing and had the same lack of production. Those same fans would be calling for him to be shot at sunrise. What gives?

Cam isn't being fired, he's completing a one-year deal. Gase is getting let go with a year left on his deal, but may be the new OC in Foxboro if Josh accepts (and actually shows up) for head coaching gig elsewhere.
Cam is being allowed to play his last game and go away unless you believe that he will be back. I dont.

The bottom line is that the Pats desperately need a QB in 2021. Cam is a QB. I do not see or hear any movement on behalf of the Patriots to bring Cam back. I do hear Cam trying to sell excuses and plead his case to the jury in regards to what happened to him after signing up to be a New England Patriot QB. Evidently, lofty expectations unbeknownst to Newton are the root cause for him being one of the worst QBs in the NFL.

Cam is fired as far as Im concerned. Dont come back.

I really liked what he brought to the team and fans. It was sad that it didn't work out on the field.
I've no idea if he'll create a successful role on an NFL team next year and beyond. I hope he does, and is successful and happy in doing so. Seems like a guy with constructive values and the world needs all of those we can get.
The fans here who belittle him on his way out are speaking entirely about their own character and nothing about him.
Nobody's talking about his character. Every criticism he received was about his play on the field. They were all earned.

How about giving us some examples of what he 'brought to the team and fans.' I must have missed those.

Let s hope at very least he will not surpass Steve Grogan...

We obviously want better play than what Cam gave us, but I'd take him back as a back up and cut Hoyer and Stidham. If they can't earn playing time with the way our offense was going they simply don't belong.

To reiterate, Cam as 3rd/4th string to an entire new stable of quarterbacks.

Loved the character and leadership he brought and yes, that counts for something. This team is a 6-7 win team when maybe they had no business being, because you had young dudes playing beyond their expectations, big plays on D and ST. That doesn't happen magically with other teams. It came from preparation, high character, and just enough talent to flash at times. Cam helped on that front, even if his woeful passing ability and situational awareness did us in at a few key moments.

There are a lot of spoiled fans who are going to hate life after the Dynasty years. We're with the pack, but we're still not your average team. We cobbled together wins against playoff teams with the worst passing attack since Saddam Hussein was still in power. Most teams would be 1-15 and hoping that the next "sure thing" is actually a sure thing, and not another 5-6 year sentence in purgatory.

I don't know if Cam will be back next year. I hope, if he is, it's because he's a lot better or as a backup. His shoulder looks shot and as a dude with a torn rotator cuff and torn biceps labrum, I know how much it sucks. Fortunately for him, he has access to way better care than I do.

Great dude and wish him the best, wherever he goes. He's good for football, just maybe not as a player anymore.

High-character guy. A leader. I like the dude.
As for his play, the best I can say is he was still better than Joe Kapp.

He'll be back. No other team is going to offer him a contract and opportunity. If he's honest in saying he wants to continue playing, He'll likely be back for cheap and under the agreement he'll come in under the assumption he has to beat out the competition to be a starter. What the qb room looks like is a completely diff thread.

This piece isn't a hit on NE nor a goodbye. He talks about his personal sacrifices (largely due to covid not NE) ontop being in a bad situation ("sucking ontop of it"). I view it as setting up as asking for another shot with better circumstances.

Most get all worked up when thinking about Cam back ..but no one is saying he starts. He can come back and ultimately be a qb2 or 3 and have specific plays drawn out for him weekly/situationally (think T. hill in NO). It can also be true that a rookie qb and fa qb come in and make Cam expendable.

Culture is what sets NE apart
It was and it was not the NE culture, it was the Tom Brady Culture. He was the one setting the standard in the locker room. There was no NE culture before he started and now that he has left there only the NE making excuses all season long culture!

Brady demanded excellence from everyone. Some guys could rise to the challenge and some couldn’t but now that he had left the only thing Bill is doing is making excuses.

Look at what he has done in TB. It’s the same coaching staff and mostly the same players and the culture has completely change over there. Bruce said that he has never seen so much leadership.

2019 turnovers differential:
Bucs: 28th -13
Patriots: 1st +21

2020:
Bucs: 6th +7
Patriots: 17th +1

last year the bucs were the most penalized team in the league with 8.3 penalty a game. This year they are 14th with 5.4 penalty a game. It’s not really coaching because it’s the same coaching staff. It is just Brady raising the standard in TB.

Cam's just lucky he played in an empty stadium all season long and didn't hear the boos raining down on him from the Gillette Faithful. If he's back next season, it won't be pleasant for him, for sure.

I'd be OK to see Cam back, but strictly as a backup/mentor for a rookie starter.

I wouldn’t be against him coming back as a specialist/wildcat role or even in a different position. Doubt he’d want to do that though.

I would prefer someone better than Cam as Qb2.

I don’t want him close to a rookie starter the only thing he can teach them is throwing balls to the ground.

I forgot about Joe Kapp's season. I must have blocked that from my memory.

I fear that since Cam is all 99% about himself that Grogans record is going to fall Sunday.

Yep, Cam has been the model citizen said and done all the right things. First in and last to leave. He has not sulked by himself at the end of the bench not even once, but his comments are all about covering his own butt because he looks bad. Grogans record is too tempting of a grapefruit hanging over the plate for Cam to not go for it.

I found his Superman celebration pretty pathetic Monday. He couldn’t be as far away as Superman as this year.

i don’t think it’s the sign of a great leader. I don’t think he is a great leader. You can’t be a great leader when you suck this much. Why a NE player would follow one of the worst player on the team. His level of play undermine everything he could say. It’s just a nice guy who worked hard which is the pretty the same as every player in the NE locker.

But what does it say to you when a player works that hard and regress every week?

Says that the backup QB... nah I won’t go there.

It was the BB. Brady culture, I don't see why fans can't see it was just perfect synergy, TB probably would have been a top QB on any team because of his work ethic (Jetes maybe excluded), and BB would probably have had success with another QB. He would have found one to buy into his program, it was lucky he got TB so early in but neither one would go to nine Super Bowls and Win six without the other. It was a perfect storm.
