Let’s fix this Offense

I'd like to seem them draft a QB early, acquire a reclamation project QB on short dollars (Mariotta, Trubisky, Winston...) and keep either Cam or Stidham. Plan would be to give the rookie a redshirt type year and have an open competition for starting spot.

Sign a higher end TE or WR Free Agent (assuming some quality players become available for cap reasons)

Alright, let’s fix this offense:

First let’s re-sign:
D. Andrews
J. Eluemanor
J. White
D. Byrd(maybe)

Throw some money at:
WR Kenny Golladay
TE Hunter Henry

Also said in another thread to give N. Harry a TE playbook and I meant it.

Not sure about QB.
If Lance or Wilson are available where we are drafting take it. If not go BPA and maybe try and trade back in and get Mac Jones late 1st.

I’m also good with a reclamation project. I’m not gonna completely judge Sam Darnold until he’s away from that massive dumpster fire that is the Jets. Jimmy on the cheap would be fine.

Bash away, just thinkin out loud here!
I definitely want Andrews back and he would be top of my list for our free agents. Eleanor I would love to see back in a swing tackle role and the same for Byrd as I don’t think he would cost much and could be a good complementary receiver depending on who else we add at the position. As much as it pains me to say I don't know if I would re-sign White unless it is a one year deal. We seem to be lessening his role (may change with Burkhead gone) but he still seems to be very good as our satellite back which was always a big part of our offense. I am not sure if they think JJ Taylor can fill in for White next year but if he can't I would assume we will know depending on whether they take a back in the draft.

I wouldn't mind Golladay at all but I am not sure if they pay up for him. I also think Golladay would be the nail in the coffin for Harry as he seems to be what Harry was supposed to be. Wouldn't be surprised if it is Marvin Jones we end up signing from the Lions instead. Godwin would be a home run signing but once again we would need to pony up to pay him if the Bucs let him walk. I wouldn't be surprised if we made a run at Allen Robinson either if he doesn't sign a major deal in the first wave of free agency.

Hunter Henry is another guy I would really like but as usual I don't know if we would pay a premium for him. Gerald Everett from the Rams is a guy I would really like if he became available and Jared Cook may end up available as well and we know Bill made a run at him previously. Whatever we do I really hope we bring in a viable veteran starting caliber TE because the position has been a disaster since Gronk left. Get a guy in there to be the number one for a year or so and try and develop the young guys and see if they can play.

As for QB I would love it if we were able to land Lance or Wilson in the draft but I also am on board with kicking the tires on Darnold of the Jets actually let him end up here. Outside of that I really hope we don't end up with another Cam-esque stop gap guy without someone young in place. It would just be like treading water for another year.

One thing that kinda frosts my dumper is the whole Thuney situation. Although he is our most valuable lineman in my opinion, I don’t think we are going to re-sign him. So he’s gone for nothing, unless people don’t think we’re gonna sign any free agents that will off set that comp pick. Think we should have been more active shopping him and getting something for him. Just venting.

I agree. I don't know why they didn't move him when they could since who knows what happens with the comp picks if we have to sign some people next year. Even worse for me was Gilmore who should've been traded since in all likelihood he will be either traded or released next season and we wouldn't get a comp pick for.

With regards to the whole Thuney talk, I of course wish he’d be back in a Pats uniform, just don’t see it happening.

Also agree on Gilmore. Are we a better team with him, absolutely, but with that contract crap he is destined for a different uniform next year. Hope JC is ready for that #1 spot, which I think he will be. Need to find a solid #2 now, which is obviously not on our roster at the moment.

I am hopeful the Thuney situation resolves like Hightower's did in which he finds the market is not quite as good as he hopes. I can understand the reticence to give a top of market contract to a guard with so many needs on the team but would also hate to lose him for nothing. Probably been the most reliable player on the team the last 5 years and one of BB's better draft picks.

Cam is the long term QB solution contrary to popular belief .. stuns me how much disrespect Cam gets

Cam is only reason NE is still alive in playoff picture

Give any other QB UDFA's Byrd and Meyers and the QB would be screwed

Please elaborate.

Please elaborate.

The only reason Byrd and Meyers look serviceable is because Cam, contrary to popular belief, is an advance passer.

This team without Cam wouldn't have beat the Jets - this teams defense made the Jets look very good on offense .. and narrow losses to SEA and BUF wouldn't have been close without Cam.

Raiders and Dolphins beat NE without Cam ..

Cam's entire career is a player, who despite having team deficiencies - raises the game of those around him. Cam is elite, he just is.

Out of every QB in NFL history, Cam is the QB who can do the most with the least around him. Most QB's need everything to be perfect to produce - Cam, because of his ability, can make due with circumstances that would have every other QB crumble.

Agree with rebuilding the Off thru FA, that would include a QB, not a Draft pick.

Draft a 1st Rd DT to build the front seven around.

They will need a QB for starters. Cam is a bridge, but they need to find someone in the draft or FA.

White should be cheap, but the Dolphins could compete for him. The board complains about Michel being predictable, but White takes that to another level. He's a terrible runner inside or outside and he's only effective if you create space for him by air.

I would've signed Burkhead over White, but that changed with the injury.

Re-sign Andrews

Thuney unfortunately walks as I see him getting $16M-$18M per year. I see the Onwenu sliding into his spot.

Need a RT.

Need to draft multiple WR's in next years draft or sign name brand-productive WR's in FA.

Acquire a name brand-productive TE in FA or draft another one. You can't make same mistake you have with Harry and assume you're good to go with the two you just drafted as they've done absolutely nothing.

I don’t think there was anywhere for him to go. The competitive teams with a need at guard didn’t have the money, the teams with a need at guard and money weren’t competitive, and the competitive teams with money didn’t need a guard.

I just don't even know what to say about this.

Yep, can definitely understand that if that was the case

that might be cam himself lol

Dont get me wrong im a fan of cam but wow
I didn't really care for Cam that much when he was with Carolina. I didn't hate him or anything I just thought he was a little annoying but even with how poorly he played in a couple games I really like him now. He has said all the right things and seems to have gone above and beyond to integrate himself with the team. It's too bad the results on the field haven't been better but I am really starting to think that his shoulder and foot injuries have caught up with him. The injuries compounded with already subpar mechanics have resulted in some very inconsistent performances and at this stage in his career I would rather just move on and find a different bridge guy while having a young guy in place going forward. I wish Cam nothing but the best going forward but I just don't think it benefits either side for him to be the QB in 2021.

hes a decent stopgap but not the answer for sure. after watching hoyer earlier and the Steelers last year piss away a top 5 d because their qb was total garbage, i would give cam a ‘satisfactory’ grade and im thankful that at least there is some competence at the position while we rebuild. But to get back to the top you need a better than satisfactory qb. Maybe 3 teams in my lifetime have won titles with average qbs and they had all time great defenses or some other major oddity.

Peoples jaws are going to be hanging down to the floor in amazement when they see what Cam is going to do for this franchise over the next decade.

Enjoy the show. Cam is the future. You're wrong.

And, shoulder, foot? What? His inconsistencies this season have had nothing to do with his health, but the trash around him - on defense - on offense ..

Cam wouldn't have needed to be running the ball late vs. Buffalo and late vs. SEA if New England had an NFL caliber red-zone target!
