Semi-OT: What is the most unwatchable type of football game?

I was going to say non-competitive, mis-match games where one team manhandles the other. But actually, I've enjoyed most of the Patriots games like that.

Watching blowouts feels like an unsatisfying waste of time to me unless you have a bet going. Maybe that why 2013 felt like one of the most satisfying regular seasons of the last decade. A season that was almost entirely filled with thrilling nail biters.

Let me qualify, I do when they are winning so decidedly because they were the paragon of strategy, execution, not making mistakes, grit and it is all paying off in a way that the other team doesn't have a chance.

And certainly there's a big difference between the 20-3 2004 Colts playoff game and the 2009 59-0 Titans snow game.

Games in windstorms where the passing games go to hell, defenses cheat up to the LOS knowing any throw beyond 10 yards will be affected, and the winner is decided by who screws up the least. Snow and rain at times affect games like this, but strong wind almost always does.

• Divisional games on TNF or MNF
• Jim Nantz virtue signalling like he's a man of high moral character while previously claiming Peyton Manning sexually assaulting his trainer news as having very little substance to protect Peyton Manning because they share the same agent.
• Clete Blakeman always finding the camera and looking directly at it while announcing the penalty
• Drew Brees disrespecting his peers by allowing the game to be stopped so he can celebrate a record he has broken
• Shots of JJ Watt on the sideline when he's inactive
• Watching known abusive players be praised and cheered while he makes a play
• Shots of the greedy piece of **** owners(except 28-3, that was delightful!)
• Virtual fans after a score or big play
• Gronk dragging defenders without a ball in hand and getting OPI when he attempts to release them

Probably a lot more but that's all that comes to mind right now.

Most of these are cases of continuing way too long (why are networks so conservative about making a change?), but some should have been fired or demoted on day one

Unbalanced games. Too much offensive output and no defense to me is the worst (Rams vs. Chiefs 50 burgers), but all defense and no scoring is pretty boring, too. The recent Pats Rams SB was kind of that to me. For some reason I love the older SBs where score was somewhat low, though. So go figure.

To put it the opposite way, a game where teams are hovering around like 21 to 31 and close until the end are the best. Games that are all but decided by the half are also kinda boring.

That Rams/Chiefs game (assuming you are talking about the game two years ago) has a Wikipedia page of its own, and it says it is regarded as one of the greatest games of all time. While I agree that games like this are not fun for me, the majority of the casual NFL fans clearly prefers high scoring games.

Massive one-sided blowouts (unless it's the Patriots). There is very little excitement from a game that you knew was over around the 2nd quarter. Since I'm excluding the Patriots, I'd point to the pre-Trubisky Bears against Aaron Rodgers, or most pre-Baker Mayfield Browns games.

Bad football isn't always boring, though, in the sense that sometimes it can be so bad it's kind of entertaining, like Mark Sanchez's final years on the Jets.

I really enjoy blowouts and I especially liked it when the Pats were accused of running up the scores. The NYFL's haters went crazy when Joe Gibbs' team was one of their victims. At first I didn't like it but then I realized that it was part of Bill's winning plan. The season is a work in progress.

The absolute worst wind game was in Buffalo in 2008. A Pats win.
The worst snow game was the Snow Bowl. They won that one too.
The worst cold game was the Titans playoff game from Dynasty I. Another Pats win.
They seem to be ready for anything.

Jim Nantz is a pansy

He's also the original Tuckhead. Instead of reminding everyone of the great game that just took place, he was whining about a "Tuck Rule" long after the game was over.

My favorite Nantz story is the one about him carrying around a picture of cooked toast to let the cooks know how he likes it. Even if it isn't true it sounds true.

And of course his greatest gift was missed this year when he couldn't give his tie to some "lucky" college basketball player.

He'll be fumbling and mumbling his way around the Masters this year though.

I'll always support my alma mater but season after season of watching Paul Johnson's tedious triple option offense had begin to destroy my soul. Thank God for Geoff Collins and our new era at Georgia Tech (even if we suck).
