Alternatively, put AJ Green in his prime on the otherside and match with an effective TE....was TJ Houzhamadia on that Bengals team too?
Yeah Whosyourmama was long gone by the time Sanu arrived in 2012...That season Sanu shared starts opposite AJ Green with Andrew Hawkins, Armon Binns, old friend Brandon Tate & fellow rookie Marvin Jones...Germaine Gresham was their starting TE & in his prime...Green-Jones-Sanu-Gresham was a pretty good 1-2-3-4 there for a couple of years...

Where they are not similar is that Sanu has proven he can go out on the field, run the right routes, run them correctly and produce at a lowwr2/highwr3 level and Meyers hasn’t come close to doing that.
He led the entire NFL in receiving in preseason in 2019 with Stidham and Hoyer throwing to him. He then caught every pass thrown to him when forced into the starting lineup before Tom unloaded on him and had him benched. If his confidence isn't shattered he can at least be as good as Sanu. Meyers made the team on his route running, he was a former QB.

That's where we disagree. In what world is BB going to pay a wr3/wr4 6.5 million?

He could have had Danny "Playoff" Amendola for 70% of that.
Because he needs him.

Preseason? Ok.

Sorry for the question but what about rookie Lb Jennings ? I am not hearing a lot about him...do you hv news ?
I think he hasn't practiced and/or taken many snaps during 11-11/7-7 drills yet, likely due to an injury...unspecified of course...He's basically Hightower's successor; damn shame he hasn't been able to do more to prepare himself for that eventual role so far...

I don't think folks should forget that Patriots went all out last year to try and field a decent offense when the bad luck/injury bug hit. Sanu was the last gasp desperation acquisition. They had the defense they just needed SOMETHING from the offense.

Chalk it up to the Falcons knowing the Pats were not only interested in the player for sometime but now desperate. An extremely rare occasion where a team makes out like a crook on a deal with the pats.

From where I sit I agree they should have just let it crash and burn with the rookies. After drafting Harry, keeping Meyers , Keeping Gordon, Signing AB ... It was obvious to me anyway the pats were willing to do anything to get Brady some toys on his last ride with the resources they had available (without mortgaging the future ) .

Sanu was likely an uncharecteristic knee jerk move ...a swing for the fences (like AB and keeping Gordon). No knock on Sanu.. I think hes a fine role player and if we can make the deal team friendly even better. None of this is his fault. He got injured - tried to play through it - got surgery in the off-season - trained his butt off - got in great shape. Hes also getting alot of targets in camp. The QBs seem to look his way.

Pennel was cut because he sucked and the other players were better... What players are better wr3/wr4 than Sanu?
Look if you really want to think Bill belichick will go into a season with 1 experienced WR and cut the guy he traded a second for go ahead but it’s just not going to happen. Especially over 6.5 million.
Pennel should've been our backup 0/1-tech behind Shelton, with Cowart or Butler to the PS...

I do agree about Sanu staying here however...We can afford now to keep him, and it would be unfair to Newton (or any of our QBs really) to ditch him without a proven replacement ready to take over his duties.

They had a legit offense when they had

Brown
Edelman
Gordon

But Tuggie put an end to that.

Pennel was terrible here whatever the reason, he played his way off the team.

Preseason? Ok.
Go look at his game logs from the Jets and Giants games midseason when he was forced into action, he caught 9 straight targets. The following game against the Browns the offense was struggling, Tom was pouting and Meyers gave up on a route and Tom ripped him a new one. Meyers was benched for the next two games. The QB this year won't be so stringent or exacting, he won't lock onto target and not deviate, he won't have a secret language that only Edelman understands.

He like a lot of people didn’t get along with our d line coach.
He said something along the lines that Bret Biliema was a huge jerk and had it it out for him.

Yep, in his prime Sanu was one of the better #3 WRs in the league, experienced and versatile in all its formations...and at this stage he could still be a damn good #4 somewhere, but he's forced to be our #2 here, behind a slot receiver at that...
Don't know therefore how much leverage we still have regarding a restructure, but at least we can now afford his contract...Not his fault the pipeline's barely dribbling, a point I'm sure his agent will mention during any talks...

You think that giving up on routes is only bad if Brady is the qb?
I don’t have to look at game logs I watched every snap he played and I saw him struggle.

If you want to gamble the season on this guy being ready to play a major role, that’s up to you but I prefer players who have proven they can effectively fill a role over guys who are trying to figure it out.

The fact that he got blown off the ball by rookies who ended up working at UPS in the preseason tells me it wasn’t a coach trying to not keep the best players.
I had high hopes for pennel and he was abysmal in his preseason play, against scrubs. He earned being cut on the field.

I remember Pennel saying that he thought the Patriots would give him time to become acclimated and get into fake shape.
Said he was shocked he was cut.

If you watched him play you wouldn’t think he should be shocked. I mean are we really saying that a player being disenchanted with losing his job is an argument that he is good despite playing like crap? I’m sure many players think it’s unfair they get cut despite the fact they suck.

There is some truth to what you say. But, in 2019, Gordon was suspended because of his addictions, Brown couldn’t help himself and needed to text the woman he assaulted to threaten her, and Edelman was hurt and double-teamed...

Kraft is a loser who tries to be cool with the young crowd. But he didn’t wreck the WR group last season.

Keep an eye out for the CBs. Based on reports, Joejuan Williams has been okay in training camp so far, but he isn't making plays like Michael Jackson Sr. or Myles Bryant is. Justin Bethel has CB6 locked down since he is also playing ST.

Myles Bryant probably isn't making the team because he's another small CB, but Belichick traded for MJ Sr., so maybe there might be a chance for him to make the team?

Both AB and Sanu gave up on routes in 2019 and didn't get blackballed, rewatch the Dolphins game, AB does exactly what got Meyers benched by coach Brady. Sanu did it later on as well, it was some diva muscle flexing by the QB to get his way.

I understand to some Tom walks on water and never does anything wrong, but remember after AB threatened a single mother and her children Tom was adamant the team shouldn't cut AB... he's not always right or perfect.

In this case working with Meyers and Gunner early in the season would have been a better course of action then pretending Josh Gordon wasn't washed up, Maurice Harris was a good idea, Dontrelle Inman could finally stay healthy and they probably should have kept Demaryious Thomas in hindsight.

In 2020 we may find any of the 2019 rookies ^ (N'Keal, Gunner, Jakobi) would have been better than those guys. By the time they were thrust into the starting lineup Tom wasn't practicing because of his shoulder. Sanu was traded for and Gunner got the Foxboro flu to make room for him, Sanu was ill suited for punt return work and got hurt doing it. The 2019 rookies didn't suck, they never had a real chance.

We currently have nobody for a backup to Jonny Jones' slot corner position except Myles Bryant;
for that reason alone I feel he still has a decent chance of making the 53, but he still needs to rack up the PBUs & INTs...
