I'm lazy this year Fletch & you got there first & with much better actual knowledge, so I'ma do my rolling Draftnik Recap™ as a gloss on the work you have already added, because God knows the most research I have energy for was just spent on finding the ™ sign in the character map.
late addition - I had a ton more but the post ate it, I had to start over, and as already established I am lazy AF.
Bear in mind that this is something I do for laughs and there are
no valid opinions here.
Kyle Dugger: lots and lots of jokes about the typical Pats safety pick, but they have never taken one like this. He’s actually almost a physical clone to Derwin James, with great ball skills, physicality, and extra value on special teams. Most get mad when we grab guys with ST value, but most often it’s coverage help. This guy can take it to the house.
One other name that he shares a lot of physical similarities to: Rodney Harrison.
so no, not a scrub pick. This guy can be an absolute star
Right you are, Fletch, and may I add he's got more hops than a vat of Sam Adams. They train you to have your hands on the ball at the top of your arc, which is fine if we're using him as anti-missile defense, but as a safety/corner, he might actually have to dial it back to avoid achieving escape velocity. Add small school pedigree & he's a lock to succeed. I don't remember us ever cutting anybody from Lenoir-Rhyne.
Josh Uche/ Anfernee Jennings: how many years and how many words have been spent about BB unwilling or unable to draft speed off the edge? Be willing to go get off-ball LBs who can move up-down-side-to-side? Well, BB finally listened in a big big way. I have loved Jennings for a long time but never thought he would actually have a shot at him before the season. So strong, smart, physical and dependable in all the ways we need. Both a safe pick a home run for the team and defense. Uche is so unique in both his physical abilities and the ways he can be used on the field. Seeing him and Dugger move all over the defense like a Bishop and Knight setting up QBs for destruction is going to be awesome. Uche won’t come off the field often, and having someone like Mayo in his ear from day one is gonna be the gift that keeps on giving.
With a guy named Uche, you always have to worry about injuries. Nonsensical, but I don't make the rules about draft analysis by name pun. From pic of his watch party, outstanding interior decorating taste. The spartan yet plush apartment graced with a single Marilyn Monroe poster speaks of a Warholesque quiet urbane side that can only be ruined by a spilled glass of red wine. He can rush, he can cover, and we need LBs. So.
One million style points to you, Fletcher, for successful playbook/chessboard metaphor, offset by a minus 500 score for common misuse of
unique. You are either unique or not. There are no degrees of unique. But 100 unintentional giggle points for
Mayo in his ear. I got nothing for Jennings, other than to ask, was
Anfernee somebody's idea of how to spell
Anthony when he was born? Not judging, just need to know. Really sorry if his grand-dad's last name was Anfernee or something.
Asiasi/Keene: maybe you liked Trautman, maybe you liked Albert O, but BB went out and got guys that look and feel like Pats. Keene is a total psycho with a never ending motor who also tested incredibly well this year. I loved loved loved Kittle coming out, and Keene wins in a lot of the same ways. Asiasi has tremendous upside as well, with a sneaky feel for soft spots in coverage, and ability to break off runs after the catch.
One more name joke - isn't "Asiasi" Italian for "Meh?" Should pair well with projected UDFA Commesee Qum-Sa. See, because "comme si, comme ca." Get it?
So daddy doesn't want to be fresh outta tight ends anymore. Work with me here on this one, we got a Tinker in Keene, a swiss army knife, the O-type universal donor
football player that BB always wants, then Asiasi's the tailor, because of finding the seam, and if you can't find a "soldier" and a "spy" in a draft crop, you have no understanding of lazy-ass color commentary. So that's where I'm going once I take a nap and come back.
Between the two of them, get ready to hear the phrase "Jarrett Stidham's security blanket." It's kind of fun to think about how the new pieces will be deployed once football starts again in 2022. Ohhhhh bummer sorry folks.
Unlike any year I can remember, there isn’t a single guy we took that is topped out already, and they truly swung for the fences at positions that will help the team right away. This was BB recognizing both the need to get faster and younger, while also filling some big holes in the immediate and long term.
Some may have wanted a receiver or a QB, but those positions still have talent on the board, and none will make the impact that the players drafted will from day one, with the opportunity to be here a long time.
For I.M. Fletcher, this has been lazy-ass color guy PatsFanInVA, noting that we're working as closely together as any draft team, so thanks for sharing the virtual booth, good comments, happy quarantining, and here's to a great season of coach-vs-coach Madden 2020!
