Give Brady Whatever He Wants

This historic run has created some delusional fans, and they are in for a reality check when Brady leaves. Brady is just a system QB, right? Just plug in 4th round pick Jarrett Stidham and the dynasty keeps right on rolling, right?

The irony in that statement........who here is saying the dynasty isn't going to miss a beat once brady leaves? You're arguing against statements nobody even made. The dynasty didn't continue to roll this year even with brady. We just lost in the wildcard round in case you missed it.

I'm in favor of keeping brady on the right terms but giving a 43 year old QB whatever he wants is just stupid. Luckily belichick isn't stupid.

You've been a fan since 2001. Ring 6 is the perfect name for a bandwagoner

Brady said that he would not give NE a discount. The chargers already have Allen and Wil,hams signed. They need to reup Ekler and Henry and replace Gordon with Dubbins.

I don't have the time to explain everything to you Ring fan.
Brady did not say he wouldn’t give a “hometown discount”. If you were really a fan you would know whether Brady said it or jay glazer said “he had heard” it.
The chargers were 5-11.
If you really want to think the chargers have a better chance to win a SB than the patriots you are a bigger clown than you play.

Been a fan since the 70s bozo, ring6 is because they had 5 and we’re going for 6 when I joined.

What’s next? I’m rubber you’re glue?
Time for mommy to come down to the basement ace take your computer privileges away.

If you had Steve Young waiting in the wings would you feel the same?

Who is Steve Young in this scenario. It's not like we have Lamar Jackson waiting to take the keys. LOL.

Give him some receivers that don't have stone hands and a couple of good TE's and TB would have something to work with. A RB like Henry wouldn't hurt either

And when his elbow goes bad again and he starts airmailing balls and throwing them at people's feet? Y'all seem to think he just got a boo-boo on his elbow which will heal, poof, no more trouble. It doesn't work that way.

Thinking about Larry Bird- one team his entire career...that was so epic.

Even though I am sure TB is kind of done from a physical standpoint, I do not care anymore if for 1-2 years Patriots are one and done or do not make playoffs....I just want to see him finish his career with Pats and NEVER wear another uniform.
21 or 22 years in NFL with one team and one team only that will only make his legend grow and will mean so much to so many Pats fans.

So yes...I have come around. Give him what it takes to make sure he retires as a patriot. We can live with 1 or 2 crap years.. Worth it to never see Brady wear that Chargers blue or even worse Riaders black and Silver.

I think TB and BB and Kraft will figure it out. So Tom---NO pressure next year.

We make believe that the team can't improve if we sign Brady. That's simply nonsense.

Let us say that we sign Brady to an extension that uses $10M of the $49.5M available cap money and suppose that we cut Sanu (re-sign or extend him if you wish). That gives the patriots $46M of cap money to work with in 2020 (we might bring Sanu back as part of that money). We've done more than we need to with less, several times.

OFFENSE
1) We'll draft a couple of more OL's and sign (or re-sign) a veteran or two.
2) Hopefully Develin will back; alternatively, Jacob will be our FB.
3) Yes, we need WR's and TE's. We start with Edelman, Harry, Meyers, LeCosse and Izzo.

DEFENSE
4) We will likely need a safety or two to add to Harmon, Brooks and ObiWann.
5) We have lots of free agents in the front six: Shelton, Butler, VanNoy, Collins, Roberts and Calhoun.

BOTTOM LINE
If we resign Brady and cut Sanu, we will have $46M of cap room available with a relatively normal number of free agents. We might choose to defer $6M less of Brady's compensation ($9M less bonus) and have "only" $40M to work with.

We won't sign lots of top level free agents; we almost never do.

Resigning Brady for 25 million salary plus the 6.5-13.5 dead money will mean he will take up 31.5 this year (if for 2 years), 38.5 (if for 1 year) of 46 M cap (The cap guy said its closer to 28).

I would not cut Sanu yet, we have to try to get more back out of the 55 pick we traded for him. Try to get him to restructure (maybe down to 4m) and I bet he improves with more familiarity with the system

Not sure if Devlin can come back physically

WR's are big concern and not easily fixable in 1 year. No faith in Harry becoming a top flight receive. Myers is average at best and Edelman is game but old and broken down.

TE is a disaster. Izzo and Lacosse are both horrendous. Would cut them both and try to sign Hunter Henry.

OL- Cannon is done, no one knows if Andrews can come back and Mason needs to get his mojo back. Wynn need to move to LG. They desperately need a big tough mauling LT- I would personally use first rounder on that,

Overall...yes Brady please come back and finish your career in NE. But I will keep my expectations realistic nd will not be devastated if they do not make playoffs, in return for TB agreeing to retire in 1-2 years as a PAT

Based on the great unknown of Stidham it seems to make sense to bring Brady back for one more run at it. He understands that he'll need to take a reasonable deal to give the team a chance to fill other holes. I also think he'll have some trouble finding the type of situation that we all assume he wants (win now team, cap space, solid line and weapons, right coach ... and willing to make a multi year commitment - who is this?).

Is this a Kobayashi Maru?

If he leaves will it be a Tomxit?

SUGGESTED CONTRACT FOR BRADY
This contract would be void after the first year, or there would be a large option.

3/$90M
SALARY $4M
BONUS $21M

The 2020 cap hit would be $6.75M + $4M + $7M for a total of $17.75M, much better than your example of $31.5M-$38.5M.

Yes, I would continue to defer part of Brady's compensation as we have always done. This does NOT cause any later cap crisis since Brady would likely be replaced by someone on a low cost rookie contract.

With regard to Sanu, you are NOT suggesting a restructure. You are suggesting a pay cut. There would be no reason for Sanu to sign such a deal without first being cut.

We will be 8-8 next season without Brady. Book it. Ready for mediocrity? Enjoy

Why would you pay Brady 25 mill in salary and no signing bonus? Why would you expect a retirement commitment or even want one?

Whatever it takes, I will let the cap experts here figure that one out. I just want him in ONLY a Patriots uniform through retirement. Like Bird.

Brady gave us 6 Super Bowls and the expectation we should be there every year. From a history standpoint we would want Brady to retire a Patriot. I am glad BB is not sentimental. He will do what is best for the team. That is a major distinction between Red and BB.

"We'll be 8-8 without Brady!".

Maybe so. What do you think they'll be with Brady? Throwing to stone hands Sanu the sloth, slow as molasses in wintertime Harry and a 34 year old Edelman coming off two surgeries?

Yeah, throwing with his bum elbow. At 43. This is comical. Due to multiple bad draft and fa decisions (a second for Sanu one of worst fleecings ever and a first for Harry one of the stupidest overdrafts ever), this team is hopeless.

And no, they're not a fa or two away. Far from it. And the FAs they get probably wouldn't be able to learn genius Josh's offense. You know the draw play out of a shotgun or the triple fake pirouette screen pass. That henius offense. Remember 10 wr screens a game? At least that's gone. Or maybe they can overdraft some large slow slugs. Who needs those 5'10" guys with a burst who can always get open (and run a 4.3). NE wants slugs!

Fly away Brady! Fly away from this trainwreck whole you still have some life in that elbow!

I think the issue is that there's a lot of fans on here that think Brady's going to leave and we might go through a mini rebuild and have a lesser version of what we have. When the reality is, it's more likely we regress to the mean and spend a long time looking for a QB.

You said "the dynasty didn't continue to roll". They won 12 games and made the playoffs and were 1 win away from a bye. Without Brady we are talking about how good of a chance we have to win the division.

Really until we know for a fact Brady is just done, he is going to be the best answer for the franchise going forward even if it turns into a tough cap situation. That's just realistic. The offense had issues this year that went beyond Brady. The issue is, fixing them and having a mid level QB, is still worse than a subpar offense and Brady. Either you think he still hasn't or he doesn't.

I do think alot of this board does overestimate what the next guy can realistically be expected of. Andy Dalton is a perfectly above average QB, but alot of Patriots fans would lose their mind putting up with his performances for a year or two. This is a league where there's only ever 4 or so elite QB's who are conistent year in and year out. Everyone else is spotty and erratic or below what you want at a conistent level.
