Tom Brady is a special player and a special person. He's not some RB that you move "a year early rather than a year late." He's the legend of all legends of Boston sports, maybe American sports. If I have to wait an extra 2 years to get to the post-Brady rebuild in order to honor Tom Brady and make sure he retires here, so be it as far as I'm concerned.

Sign him to a two or three year deal immediately so we can focus on the real task at hand, which is quickly revamping this offense. I think we need to use the entire draft on offense. Draft a franchise OT in the first round and kick Wynn inside to guard. Then take a few stabs at TE/WR.

That joke has been done to death. Get some new material. Or better yet, make a substantive argument.

We have the rest of our lives to be just another team without the GOAT trying to rebuild. What's the big hurry?

Seriously, what is the big hurry to dump the GOAT? Have some Patriots fans become so spoiled they think another GOAT is going to just fall into our lap? We have the rest of our lives to be GOATless. We'd be advised to hold on to the GOAT as long as we can.

Well, maybe it's time for a new screen name. Here's my substantive argument to counter your shortsighted emotional pitch: Money and cap considerations: another year of Brady or ... ?

Actually, I would argue your view is the shortsighted one. You're in such a hurry for something shiny and new right now that you can't see the big picture.

    I’ll play.

The very reason I love me some BB is that he puts winning first and feelings second. If (and of course he might NOT feel this way) it’s his professional opinion that it’s time to move on, he should.

I am hoping for another shot at the SB w Brady. But I’m not at practice, nor at the facility. BB has earned my trust. He can be counted upon to make the call he needs to make, even if difficult. If it’s time, then he should make the call.

 You're kidding, did you actually read it? The BIG PICTURE is what that thread addresses -- competitive roster vs. Brady's contract. No idea what you mean by "something shiny and new."

That's a plan. Give him whatever he wants, say goodbye to every free agent and draft a bunch of rookies that Brady can proceed to ignore.

I am with the adult in the room.....give Brady what he wants...

My logic: Brady isn't in it for the money. He is about winning also and fully understands that for every dollar he takes, there is lesser talent on offense. Resigning him = -6.5M on the cap to start with and we will NOT find a better QB for the 2020 season anywhere.

But what if it doesn’t matter “if we will not find a better qb for the 2020 season” ? If BB truly believes neither Brady, nor a replacement will bring home another SB, then it’s time to rebuild.

Obviously, I hope this isn’t the case and they give it another go. The coaches see more than we do. I trust their judgement.

I also trust their judgement, but if we dump Brady and play Stidham...we are paying 13.5M + Stidham's salary....and we would save maybe ~22M which will only be 1/9 of the projected cap of 180M.

I believe the coaches believe that Brady plus some FA's on offense will keep the team competitive. We weren't that far this year, IMO.

They (Brady, Belichick, Kraft) would be so much better off if they could approach building a team to go for #7 together, and have Brady's compensation be part of that thinking. What we are hearing is more consistent with a standard negotiating (i.e. competitive) approach, which won't be optimal toward the final goal.

I hold Kraft more responsible for this than any of them. It's his job to get people in the organization to transcend ego in situations like this.

I get your point, and am not arguing with you, but I don't think they are in a position to put "only" in front of 22M this year.
