Peter King -One on One with Brady

Brady is well known for being OCD about his receivers' route running. What team is he going to plug himself into that will give him a turnkey receiving corps that meets that demand? None. They're all playing some form of sandlot football with routes that break down quickly as the QB, a runner by nature or by necessity, starts improvising and the receivers start running about semi-randomly, waving for the QB's attention. Brady won't be able to run his precision game with a bunch of Ochocincos no matter how physically talented they may be.

Excellent point. This seems like most of the league to me. As a WR with the Pats offense, you not only have to get separation but you need to get it immediately in the predetermined route, known already to most of the League. Improv isn't really part of the Pats' repertoire.

And while the routes do have options, they are deterministic ones since Brady and the receiver have to make the same choice as to the option. That also means the tells are there on the tape and the defense can figure out what some of the options will be.

Everyone had a bad yr. BB.Brady, the oline, josh . Purely on lack of weapons ,we didnt lose this yr. This team didn't execute at a high level at critical times after losing players like Gronk and had injuries all yr.

The weapons stink!!! It doesn’t have to be AJ green. Heck even a guy like golden tate would have helped this offense.

I don’t care what anybody says. Give brady a decent offense and he will excelled.

I’d like to see them get Brady some weapons and see what he does next year. If he still looks shaky then both sides will know it’s over and that’s that. I don’t want to pull the plug early with Brady. I’d rather go down with the ship then jump overboard.

It's impossible to imagine a scenario where Brady believes that having lifted a 6th Lombardi under a year ago.

But as the time on his career winds down I think he's going to be far less patient with developing an offensive roster good enough to win with. This was a transition year for our offense and Belichick didn't get us the tools to score more than 13 points in a playoff game. That's got to be something Brady is thinking about as he figures out where he wants to spend the last 1-3 seasons he has left in the league.
I agree. At the same time Brady is smart i think to know where he has the best chance to put together a winning group and contend. And I know people here hate BB a lot but the coach is a huge factor where one can win a SB especially if he has only 2-3 yrs left and BB is better than anyone else to bet on in the league in my opinion.

I'm excited to see how Belichick retools the team. Could be his most masterful stroke yet...

Belichick is always looking long term.

Brady for the first time in his career is looking short term.

Belichick is not going to change how he build champions to make Brady feel better. His responsibility is to the team and ensuring it is competitive for the long haul.
At the same time BB also is going to do what gives him a best chance to win. So if a 42yr old is the best option then he will do so I think .

How will #87 get around random drug testing, and walk away from that sweet gig on TV?? See Ben Watson...

Yeah, quitting cannabis like 6 months prior to a test wont work.

If he goes somewhere else, it will not go well for him.....he should have quit after last years super bowl win

If Brady goes to a team with another Sony, or a Harry and Dorsett like stiffs, then no.

Only team I can think of is DAL. Cooper, Gallup, Cobb, Witten (old, but can still find soft spots in zone coverage) Austin. Not to mention; Zeke & that OL. Cooper, Gallup and Cobb are excellent route runners. Not to mention, I believe Jerruh would put up with AB (at least for a while). That offense would be unstoppable, with an at least competent defense once LB Vander Esch gets healthy. While I doubt this will actually manifest, it sure is interesting. Head coach (not for long), Safety & TE are DAL only weaknesses.
Even with all of these things being true, it doesn't seem remotely plausible. Dak Prescott is 26 and just came off of a pretty damn good season: 99.7 passer rating (10th), 70.1 QBR (4th), 80.3 PFF grade (top 5ish), 6th in QB DVOA. Note that I don't love all of these metrics, I'm just pointing out that he basically universally had a really solid season.

I don't care how much Jerry Jones loves Tom Brady. He's not passing on a 27-year-old Dak Prescott -- a potential 10-year FQB -- for a 43-year-old Tom Brady. He's just not. And even "well, DAL/Prescott can't work out a deal" doesn't lend credence, because they'll just franchise him if it comes to that.

I know you conceded it's unlikely. I don't see it as unlikely, I see it as virtually impossible.

You are entitled to your opinion, but it’s just not that simple

How do you think jimmy g does with this group? I think you’re hyping up this group which was one of the worse in the nfl. All you have to do is look at the numbers. James White was our second leading wideout. Those early 2000s offenses where better and i don’t go by numbers.

It doesn’t have to be long term. I think dak is overrated but he’s still young. That’s all he has on brady.

You’re right. To be fair, this was from another forum that posed the hypothetical question “Which particular offense would be best for Brady.” That was the main topic, but to be pragmatic about it’ll never happen.

Correction I think Brady would love a AJ Green older WR who's more than proven in this league. Probably have two years left Tops like Brady himself. AJ Green - Austin Hooper or Hunter Henry at TE. Plus a another Rookie WR or Two just in case Harry is a bust plus a young TE via the Draft could do the trick. We just have to be very active and aggressive in both FA and the Draft. We just cannot sit back and make things come to us.

I’m just saying switch sanu and put Tate in and tell me this offense wouldn’t have moved the ball. They would have!!!

I agree. They get changed and refined and they can get pretty complicated, but teams still often know what's coming. Easy for Brady to implement because he's been with the Pats from the beginning through all the derivations and refinements. That's one reason Harry was so limited. He had to learn not only how to play receiver in the NFL but also the Pats system.

Metcalf, on the other hand, had a very limited route tree and could freelance, so his orientation in Seattle was much easier.

I think if we caught 30 % of our passes more this yr and didnt commit bad penalties in critical offensive plays this yr , it would be a different story . We dont need some iconic WR. Just someone who can catch. Everyone including jules had the dropsies this yr.

I think he stays.

His BFF Edelman isn't going anywhere, the Oline should be a strength next year, the RBs still a strength of the team, Harry will have another offseason to learn and grow. Just need to get a decent tight end and an actual receiver that can win 1 on 1s.

Well, we may get to find out. Look, he's still a good QB in any system. I think NE's system suits him best, though.
