Peter King -One on One with Brady

Bill isnt building a championship next year without brady.

So if he let's him go then it puts this ******** narrative to build.

Who are they gonna add to the offense next year that tops having brady out there?

Cam Newton or bridge the gap with Tedy Bridgewater??o_O

The Cowboys are the best option for Brady if he leaves. Jerruh will do anything he can to get another ring before he kicks the can

- Coach just got fired, so McDaniels can be there
- Easiest division in football
- Dome

- Best offensive line in football
- Ezekiel Elliot at running back
- 85 million in cap space so can bring back Amari Cooper who is a top 10 receiver, and sign Antonio Brown, and other pieces

Some of you have to realize Bill has to put a team together and not just load up on top players for Brady's sake.

BB thought that he built a legendary defense. When the defense struggled - which some of us knew would happen - Brady could not bail the team out this time with this offensive cast.

Everything was great or at least good enough for ring # 7 when the Boogeymen ruled the NFL for 8 games.

And that Tom Brady have something to do with every Lombardi we won.

Brady masked the 5hitty Patriots drafting and blunders in FA.

Brady made lots of former folks that were Patriots millionaires on other teams, but the other team found out relatively soon that they were had.

Brady made HOFers.

So some of us like myself who thought Brady would leave are not looking like idiots now. Getting my popcorn ready can't wait for the Homers to spin it... spin on.

Brady is gone to the LA Chargers who will give him virtually complete control over the offense. A seat at the draft/FA table too.

Expect big doofus # 87 to follow him.

Belichick is always looking long term.

Brady for the first time in his career is looking short term.

Belichick is not going to change how he build champions to make Brady feel better. His responsibility is to the team and ensuring it is competitive for the long haul.

Thought he started to do this next year when he drafted Damian Harris, and started to transition to a team that focused on the ground game to take the pressure off of the heir apparent to Brady..

This combined with the drafting of Cajuste and Froholdt were the foundation of things to come.. and bolstering the Defense was part of the master plan..

But in the meantime there were a lot of injuries; Edelman(described by some as not even knowing if he could play most weeks), Andrews, Develin, Gostowski, Sanu(high ankle sprain) combined with Harry being on early(slow development) ..

There are no excuses offered for the lack of O prowess, just the reality is that things did not work out as planned..

How will #87 get around random drug testing, and walk away from that sweet gig on TV?? See Ben Watson...

I actually thought the more interesting stuff came from Kraft. My mind glazes over when it comes to following sports contract stories, but I hadn’t realized Brady wanted to be a free agent after this year (I just read other bits on this board that covered this), as Kraft says:

“Before the season started,” Kraft said, “it was very important to Tom that he be free to do whatever he wanted at the end of the year. You know what I said to myself? That any person who plays 20 years for this team and helps us get to six Super Bowls, and been really selfless, has earned that right. I love the young man like he’s part of my family. Blood family. Anyone who’s done that has earned the right to control his future after 20 years. And you know, my hope and prayer is number one, he play for the Patriots. Or number two, he retires. He has the freedom to decide what he wants to do and what’s in his own best personal interest.”

Brady is well known for being OCD about his receivers' route running. What team is he going to plug himself into that will give him a turnkey receiving corps that meets that demand? None. They're all playing some form of sandlot football with routes that break down quickly as the QB, a runner by nature or by necessity, starts improvising and the receivers start running about semi-randomly, waving for the QB's attention. Brady won't be able to run his precision game with a bunch of Ochocincos no matter how physically talented they may be.

Football has always been considered the ultimate team sport.
BB has ALWAYS been about putting the team first over individual need and wants. He has consistently done this in order to build a team that consistently compete for championships over the long haul.

Fact- Patriots have 17th most cap space (average) among 32 NFL teams for next year No 2nd round pick and multiple free agents besides Brady they would like to re- sign.

How are the Patriots going to put all this top tier talent at WR, TE and OL next year with current cap limitations? Can not assume that ANY drafted rookie will have an immediate impact. Are top tier veterans like Amari Copper or Austin Hooper or even AB going to take massive discounts just to play with TB for 1-2 more years? We all know the answers to these questions are no.

Is it reasonable to expect that Edelman at 34 can continue to avoid injury and performs a top tier receiver-

Does anyone expect that Harry's football IQ will suddenly dramatically improve and he will become a top tier #1 WR next year?

Is Phillip Dorset going to emerge from his complete bust of a season?

Is Izzo or Lacosse going to become a reliable broker or TE

No, No and No

The Dolphins have over 100 million in cap space The Bills have 89 million in Cap space, at least 14 other teams have more cap space than the Patriots.

The point is, Kraft and BB can not give Brady what he wants for the next 1-2 years in terms of talent unless he plays for free. It will be a repeat of this year.

It's tough to say goodbye but based on BB team building principles, no single player, not even Brady can be bigger than the needs of the team and the organization as a whole. We have reached that point with Tom.

Only team I can think of is DAL. Cooper, Gallup, Cobb, Witten (old, but can still find soft spots in zone coverage) Austin. Not to mention; Zeke & that OL. Cooper, Gallup and Cobb are excellent route runners. Not to mention, I believe Jerruh would put up with AB (at least for a while). That offense would be unstoppable, with an at least competent defense once LB Vander Esch gets healthy. While I doubt this will actually manifest, it sure is interesting. Head coach (not for long), Safety & TE are DAL only weaknesses.

Harry is clueless when it comes on to route running bravo GM\BB. Drafting a WR who can't get separation or run precise routes in the First Round.

Well 6-10 seasons here we come I remember the early 80's and 90's Patriots Teams.

I still believe in Harry. Gronk wasn’t Gronk 8 or 9 games into his career. Crazy to give up on this kid already.

I think Brady's perspective is less about being mad at BB or wanting infinite money, and more about him being very aware that he has little time left. If he thinks the Pats offense will still be a work in progress in 2020 it's not hard to see why he would go to somewhere it's not.

Plus I think he wants to actually enjoy playing QB, and watching the Pats be #2 in most dropped passes was not that. He's not staying if he thinks there's going to be a replay of that.

If he goes somewhere else, it will not go well for him.....he should have quit after last years super bowl win

This matches my gut instincts/personal speculation. I think Brady, seeing the end of his career looming, was disappointed with the roster moves that reduced his opportunity to repeat. Specifically AB. I also think Belichick was right to send AB packing.

Beyond all that I think Belichick will flat out refuse to make commitments to a player in regards to how he will fill or maintain the other 52 roster spots in order to sign a player even if that player is Brady.

I'm pretty resigned to Brady seeking greener offensive pastures somewhere else as a result of the above impasse and I expect Kraft to flinch if it comes down to a battle of wills between him and Belichick over how to treat Brady. I think Kraft cares about legacy but he has to know that keeping the Belichick regime in place is much more likely to yield future championships than if he puts his foot down and demands that Brady be kept around.
I don’t think Brady would stay around if Belichick doesn’t want him no matter what Kraft thinks about it.

He's 600 years old, 2020 probably doesn't go well for him anywhere.

It's more likely to go well for him where he's not throwing to mostly scrubs, either in NE if they make a big push to bolster the offense, or a team that already has one.

You are entitled to your opinion, but it’s just not that simple

It's true. I'm tired of looking at posts that don't take the salary cap and unsigned FAs into consideration.
