What exactly were the Pats to do at the point they traded for Sanu? How do we know that they didn't name different terms and ATL simply balked? We needed a WR and they went for one. Too bad he's playing hurt. Unfortunately, that's just where the team was at that point, regardless of who is to blame. Personnel decisions are fluid and there will always be good and bad decisions made.

The problem with threads like this is that the problems, especially in football, can seldom be limited to one player. The offensive problems go far beyond just Sanu or just Meyers or just *insert player name*. The whole unit is off and may not ever be right this season. Whatever improvements the offense can make will likely be only marginal. They simply lack talent and any semblance of continuity or cohesion. We have to maybe accept that it's on the D to make things happen in the critical moments.

The rumor at the time was that there was a "little competition" between Shanahan and BB for Sanu at the trade deadline. The Pats got Sanu for a steeper price (and 2 years) and the 49ers went with plan B.

It seems as though it’s a fair assumption that Sanders’ skill set would be helping the team much more than Sanu, but it is what it is and in BB we trust. Good luck to him in terms of trying to figure out a passing offense for the rest of 2019.

I guess they liked Sanu's age, size and physicality in the run game a lot more. And obviously the second contract year. Not coming off a devastating season ending injury on the wrong side of 30 also helped.

Really comes down to preference but usually flexibility is king around here.

Brady complaining last night about needing to be more explosive points to a need that this group looks unable to fulfill.

Somehow this thread misses the obvious information that he is pretty limited with a high ankle sprain.

We saw what he can do against the Ravens. Since the injury you rarely see him work on the inside. The couple of routes he gets to run are usually to the side of the healthy ankle.

He had 10 catches for 81 yards in a losing effort. There are 2019 second round picks that have catches longer than 81 yards this season. I don’t disagree with the injury being a major factor but let’s not get carried away with what he did against the Ravens.

Sanders hasn’t exactly been lighting the world on fire in SF. He has played in 2 more games and has 4 more catches. I don’t think either team can be thrilled with what they are getting considering what they gave up.

I feel like more often than not mid season wr acquisitions don’t meet expectations due to complexity of learning a new playbook and not having a chemistry with the quarterback.

Spent a #1 on a bulky WR whose scouting report said “trouble gaining separation but good at 50/50 balls“
It’s almost as if NE abandoned its core philosophy of creating separation in favor of jump balls
I’m convinced NE envisioned Harry as Brady’s oversized goal line end zone target former occupied by Gronk.

Jettisoning Thomas so quickly at a time Brady was so adamant about having vet pass catchers. Bill’s cap management forced Bill’s hand and the result was later spending a #2 on a slower version of Thomas.

Meyers was very productive at NC State yet didn’t get drafted. Why? Not mentally nimble? Brady’s ongoing frustration with this newbie continues... and I doubt it’s because of Meyers hands.

How come lightning fast Dorsett never blows by DBs? Slower with equipment on than shorts and a tee?

Any team that installs Edelman as their “take the top off” threat has personnel issues.

Harry is very concerning. This guy can’t get no separation. He’s one of those guys that has a lot of muscle on top. He weights 225. He doesn’t seem to have that burst off the line and that was my concern with him.

I think Meyers is that type of guy.

Meyers is a UDFA and you are comparing him to an established and experienced slot receiver.

He is about 2 years away from maybe having the body, footwork or experience necessary to run quick routes on the same level as Sanu.

Unless Brady disposes of him sooner than that.
