Sure it does. If the offense is going to struggle, you may as well become a really good defensive team and try to win games 20-17. I don't know that this move does this, but the thought process makes sense.

They arent good enough to be going all-in for a second straight year, and between trading away multiple first rounders and all those ridiculous contracts, they’ve basically given up on the future too

Ramsey is a good player but the Rams overpaid. They have far bigger problems such as the offensive line massively underperforming and Gurley being a ticking timebomb. I think Goff, Donald, and Ramsey are solid franchise cornerstones to build around but a good team still needs first-round picks to complement those players.
