Demaryius Thomas traded to the Jets

Most likely scenario is that after Brown was signed, Thomas requested a trade to somewhere he could play and Belichick did him a solid turn just like he had done for the Patriors after cut downs, even if that meant trading him to the vile Jets.

I've always liked Demaryius Thomas (his early years were stunted by Tebow and then he didn't get enough credit for making Peyton look good) and I'm glad he's getting the opportunity to play out the downside of his prime rather than ride the bench on the Patriots for insurance against Gordon or Brown blowing up only to be cut midseason when Harry is ready. He's already got a ring, and he still has an outside shot at a Hall of Fame bid if he puts up a couple more big seasons (though he's probably closer to that Cliff Branch, Sterling Sharpe, Henry Ellard, Herman Moore, and Wes Welker tier of almost but not quite, though I'd take some of those guys over Cris Carter so who knows).

That wasn't going to happen with the Patriots. It sucks it's with the Jets.

We have too many WRs and he is clearly the worst of the non-ST playing WRs.

Just to reiterate, Thomas almost certainly requested a trade to somewhere he will get targets after Brown was signed because he's got a possible Hall of Fame resume with probably only a couple years left to add to it and he already has a ring. These guys aren't robots, and Belichick probably has too much respect for him (especially after he allowed them to be creative with their roster a week ago) to make him a healthy scratch as pure Gordon/Brown insurance until Harry returns, in which case he would have been unceremoniously cut. Sucks the Jets were the only ones who would take him.

Safe indeed, till someone opens a spot on their 53 man roster and makes one phone call.

And he accepts the offer. All of the above seems rather unlikely to me.

Is it too late to bring Thomas back?

You're forgetting Dorsett and Edelman and Harry?

I mentioned Harry.

2 other receivers in Dorsett and Edelman isn't enough. We had that many receivers last year when we scored 13 points against the Rams and we had Gronkowski and Edelman gave an otherworldly performance.

Surprised this happened but it's fine I suppose. They had too many mouths to feed hear anyway, but I thought considering the back round of the WRs they have that they would want good depth here. My thoughts are as long as we have Gordon/Brown the whole year for the most part this is fine. If one them can't continue to play for us for any reason I think we will rightly question this move.

We are one injury away from needing Thomas.

Let’s hope we do not get to that point.

F#ck!in ruthless.

By the way, I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I dislike this trade more now than when it first became public.

Someone has probably pointed this out as I’ve not read ahead, but cutting Ebner as some have speculated would not result in any cap savings. Ebner is a vested vet, so, at this point, the Patriots still would be on the hook for his salary if they cut him. Trading him or extending him would be the only ways to reduce his cap figure.

Correct he is eligible for termination pay. So that even more so settles it.

Even if Brown gets released or put on ice via Goodell.. Watson is coming back in W4, we have 3 versatile RBs, Meredith is still on PUP and Harry is back around the BYE. We have enough depth to absorb injuries.

We don’t need DT. He was a wasted roster spot yesterday, and now after the allegations he would still be a luxury.

I’m not sure Watson at his age is someone that should be counted on for anything.

Good then that he'd be a complementary piece in an offense that has deemphasized the role of TEs. Doesn't mean he can't contribute catches now and then or block a bit.

This.

Ffs, Thomas was a healthy scratch Sunday, BEFORE Brown joined the team. Before Watson came off suspension, and before Harry and Meredith came off ir.

It's officially official. We're all in on AB, unless we're not.

even off he replaces Develin as the 8th passing target (after 4 WR's and 3 RB's).
