Bills are trading C Russell Bodine to the New England Patriots

Not a good sign when youre building your OL a week before opening day.

The starting center going down just before that serves as a bit of an explanation, though, and it's not the first time that this team has had to cobble together the OL late.

Except for Andrews we are talking about depth pieces. Not starters.

Karras has been here so while there will be a dropoff from Andrews, it shouldn't be awful.

I hope.

As long as he doesn't retire in 5 minutes I'm fine with this.

So I guess Bill and Scar agree with our evaluation the OL backups

Stidham could sue Ferentz for last night.
Thankfully the family card expired..

They missed on some good C's they had their eyes on in the last two drafts and I was hoping for the next Georgia man Gaillard on day 3 of this Draft. Hopefully Karras can step up with Josh scheming around hist strengths and weaknesses but his inconsistency might be harder to overcome so I wouldn't be surprised if Bodine takes over. Hardly exciting but I guess the best under unlucky circumstances..

Center Im not that concerned about because Im confident that BB and Scar have a back up ready to go.

The Pats have lost Centers before without a hiccup after the 2nd man in line took over.

Apparently BB was pretty clear on this in an interview yesterday (very surprising) when he said that Veldheer and Schwenke were generally guys he expected to make the team. The team had 8 linemen who were worth a damn - those two, the original projected starters, plus Karras. And they were likely planning on keeping Froholdt as a developmental guy.

Those two guys retire and Andrews is lost for the year, and Froholdt himself looks like he suffered a bad injury yesterday. That left us with only 5 quality linemen. Huge opportunity for others to step up this preseason, but they all looked horrid instead, including Ferentz last night who had the best opportunity. So I was fully expecting the team's 8th lineman to come from outside the organization. Hopefully this works out.

experience helps but he seems to lack in quality
Who is the quality starter? Ted Karras is big but it would be a stretch to say that he has had a lot of quality starts.

I wonder what the tie breaking merge rules are.

Perhaps it's weighted in favor of the poster with the fewest people on ignore

I like all three moves.

Bill knows how bad the OL is behind the starters. I think we all do.

He's not looking at value in the traditional sense.

He knows Brady would have gotten killed if anyone of our JAGS was forced to fill in.

Bills and Cincy fans on Twitter keep saying how bad this guy is. The fact that he's started 70+ games the last 5 years tells me he's at least capable. Considering where he's played I'm sure he hasn't received a morsel of the coaching he's about to with the Patriots.
CAPABLE - that's the key word in this trade. The Pats are getting someone who has proven to be a "capable" player. Not an All Pro, or some other kind of world beater, just a get who looks like he is a proven NFL OLman who can come in an be a reasonable back up on the OL .

Or not. We are a long way from Saturday and a lot can happen. If Bill sees someone he likes better later on in the process, he will have NO compunction in forgetting about that 6th round pick and jettison Bodine in a nano-second. But for TODAY, Bodine was the best option.

And he's been on NFI all preseason. I'm sure the Patriots anticipated this when they drafted him since it's nothing new.

Not good news for Andrews...get well soon and hopefully see you next year!!

OK Cinci and Bills fans, we hear you, he sucks.
And yet, each of the past five years, he's beaten out whoever your personnel people brought into camp to compete with him, and has started every game.
So where does the criticism truly rest?

Which suggests that they must have been pretty positive about him and think that he could contribute, since they used a third-round pick on him. Of course, they could have got their medical information wrong (wouldn't be the first time) but I doubt they were planning on redshirting him, so it makes sense to include him in one's thoughts about the season as a whole.

Aside from the Starters if we ever get to the next man up along that OL at Tackle we are going to be in trouble...never mind at Center.

This guy was terrible on the Bengals. That’s all I got.

He was terrible? Yet started every game he played in for them... Then started every game he played in for Buffalo.. Played in 74 of a possible 80 games in 5 years..

He's a JAG.. That doesn't make him terrible.
