Just a few thoughts
1. I would be happy if I had 53 Gunner Olsheski's on my team. BUT... there is no room at the table for him right now, and after tonight I'm damned worried that he's not going to make it to the PS. I was actually happy to see him fair catch most of his PR's and NOT return any of his KO's It will be too bad to see him on another team. Given a year on the PS, he'd be a lock to make the 2020 team and be an asset. Now we can just wait and hope
2. I thought PUPing DThomas was about the easiest decision of the preseason. Clearly I was wrong. The thing is I never bought into the whole DT was a declining player who THEN had an Achilles tear at 31. He managed to make 23 catches in 7 games AFTER he was traded to a new team and had to learn a new offense on the fly.
But still, you had to be shocked to see his stat line after about 3 practices with his new team and working with a new QB. I guess now we know WHY Tom Brady always seemed so happy to be around him.
3. If Edelman was seriously hurt he wouldn't have been on the sideline yelling at officials (and justifiably so)
4. The back up OL was pretty weak. They pass defended pretty well when the Giants were rushing just 4, but when the blitzed it looked ugly. Hard to pinpoint who to blame, but they never figured out how to make the Giants pay.....and that could have been on purpose.
5. We better hope the starters don't have any hiccups this season, or a team strength could become a weakness very quickly
6. You didn't hear his name mentioned much but JWilliams is going to be a hell of a player for us THIS year and down the road. The Giants refused to target him for a long time and when they did, he ate them up. With the exception of a dropped pick after he was in perfect position, he pretty much threw a shut out. IMHO he was a man among boys and I'm glad we have him.
7. Munson is the Gunner of the LB group. Non-stop motor and usually in the right place. I think he'll make this team.
8. Cowart continues to impress in the middle. He moves the LOS and that's hard to do.
9. Mayo didn't show much of what we've seen the first 3 practice games, and that makes sense given we will see these guys again in week 6.
10. You could see the difference in the cultures of the two teams. The Pats were all dressed and in full pads and seemed to be VERY involved with the game and their teammates, most of whom will be gone by Saturday. Very cool. On the other side, the Giant's starters were not in pads and seemed disengaged with what was going on.
11. REAL happy that the Giants came back and won the game. I would have HATED being undefeated in preseason games. A 4-0 preseason seems so Jet-like. I think the Ravens have won something like 16 preseason games in a row. NOT my ideal of a role model.
12 Obi didn't play at all. Hard to justify a spot on the roster even though he's a binky.
13. Can't wait for the next two days to come and go so I won't have to hear about carrying just 2 QB's. We know the arguments
14. Scooby do came in early this week and wound up with 2 sacks, even though he looks like a small LB from a D-2 school. Glad he got some good tape in his time with the Pats.
15. Funny to see two 47's on the defense when Jacob Johnson at LB and Ken Webster were on the same side
16. I thought Kyle Lauletta did a nice job in his stint. He's a guy I wanted the Pats to draft last season as a sleeper. Not to date myself, but Kyle's grandfather, Joe, was one of my football coaches in college as well as my Lacrosse coach. I think I just dated myself.
17. Daniel Jones in a very short stint looked like the guy that has been the toast of the preseason. After a 4-4 night, his completion percentage has to be over 90%. If the Giants don't get off to a fast start, the Pats might be facing a new QB in weak 6.
18. I have to say it. The Giants were jerks trying to keep this game going into Red Sox/Yankees territory instead of just running out the clock in the 4th like the Pats were doing and get people off the field healthy. Instead they squeezed every last second out of the clock to no great purpose.
