The Giants came to town! (Unofficial Post Game Thread)

Hes gone. I was hopeful but hasn't done enough in the return game and not good enough of a WR to deserve to be on the roster.

Gunnar might have a shot.

IIRC Richards was at least a core ST player, haven’t noticed Dawson on ST.

It was late in the game thread and someone replied to me saying BB doesn’t want rookies as the backup. Didn’t seem right and then it hit me. 2014 with Jimmy G. Traded Mallet at the end of August.

So he has in the past had a rookie QB as a backup.

Yes that has happened a few times. Can someone name the veteran alternatives that were in camp during those years?

Finally got a second look on that final play. It looked exactly like the end of the 1st half in Super Bowl XLIX. Gunner playing off coverage like Logan Ryan was and a tall receiver caught the ball right in front of him in the endzone. Gah! Please teach a different technique for this situation in the future. I can't take seeing that again!

I think Thomas is the biggest surprise of the night. I think the overwhelming opinion from people prior was that he probably was done and is just a "mentor" to N'keal harry. After seeing him last night, he looks fully recovered from the achilles injury. Looked fluid and quick out of his cuts and was the star of the night.

Look forward to seeing Him/Edelman/Gordon on the field together. The receiver corp which was one a question mark could be a strength of this team.

The off-field story seems to have been Tom Brady doing yoga on the sidelines (and Edelman making fun of him). I'm not so sure.

If that was supposed to be Virabadrasana 3, it wasn't a very stylish effort. But, if you look at the video, it looks to me as if he might have been closing his eyes as he goes down. Which means that he was doing some one-legged proprioceptive balance training. MUCH more difficult! @reamer ?

Yup, could be. Seems like a good catch.

Mini rant: Proprioception is under-trained in athletics in general. Raw strength or speed is usually the priority (which makes sense in an explosive sport like football), but how often do we hear about body control and acrobatic catches being innate? "Oh, what a wonderfully talented player!" Sure, the player is talented; but others can at least train to approach a similar level if they lack some of that body/spatial awareness.

Can I like this post twice, please?

So, I go to watch a replay of the drive that ended with a FG. I saw two BLATANT DPI that went uncalled. One that stopped Gordon from getting a pass and one that stopped Saubert from catching a pass in the endzone.

Both were pathetically egregious. I was blown away that BB didn't throw the challenge flag on the 2nd one because it was clear that 93 of the Giants swatted Saubert's hand down before the ball got there preventing the catch..

What a strange ride the WR position has been on over the course of this camp. Right now there's a clear big four of Edelman, Gordon, Harry and Thomas--wow. But I dare you to call anybody else a lock.

The other huge question to me is, of all things, exactly which special teams positions all of the ST standouts play. We can't carry all of these guys:

Bolden
Brooks
Calhoun
Crossen
Ebner
Munson
Olszewski
Slater

Calhoun and Brooks aren't strictly special teamers. They'll see snaps on defense. As will Crossen if he makes the team.

Munson and Wright are probably headed to the PS.

I'm really pulling for Olsz to make the team as a swiss army knife.

As of right now, Bedard still has Berrios making the 53. I think Bedard's out of his mind with that.
Huh? No he doesn't. He has Edelman, Gordon, Harry, Dorsett, Thomas and Slater with Meyers being the last one cut.

I don't want them investing any time in teaching any type of CB technique to Gunner.
He's in there at that time to keep other players from getting hurt. The score didn't matter.

The evolving definition of "egregious" is going to be interesting to watch this year.

Then he changed his mind after reviewing everything. He said he might.

Maybe so, but I'm over there every day and he's been pretty down on Berrios all summer.

He said it on the postgame, with Bertrand. If you think I misheard him (it happens to all of us, after all), please feel free to find it and post a link. I strive for accuracy, and would appreciate the pointing out of such an error.
