NFL Draft: Day 2

That was the strength of this draft and there are still 2nd/3rd round types tomorrow - Anthony Nelson, D’Andre Baker, Christian Miller, CGJ, Deionte Thompson, Amani Hooker, Mack Wilson, Kelvin Harmon, Hakeem Butler, Charles Omenihu.

Still some intriguing value.

wouldn't mind gerald willis in the 4th too, few intriguing players still left on the board

we might also see BB trade up with one of the 133/134 and a seventh, wouldn't be shocked if Pats keep the 3 4th round picks (but expect them to trade up with one of the late 4ths to jump for a player they really like)

quite some value to be found in 4th round

His 35 in vertical isn't bad.
He's got a 6.8 3-cone which is very good.
His shuttle is decent at 4.19.

His 40 yard dash was 0.06 seconds different than Edelman.

What did Edelman "excel" at in terms of being a WR coming out of college?

And yes, this puts Renfrow in the 7th/UDFA category for me..

Edelman's short shuttle was in the 97th percentile for WRs, and his 3 cone was in the 94th percentile. His measurables made it clear that he was absolutely elite at a very specific skill. To be clear, he was much better in both drills than Renfrow. His 3 cone was 6.62, and his shuttle was 3.92. Renfrow's 6.8 3 cone is good, sure, but it's not in Edelman's ballpark, he's on a whole different level. So the best possible case you can make for Renfrow is that he's Edelman minus the physical traits that make Edelman exceptional.

To sum it up in a sentence: you're dramatically underselling how good Edelman's measurables are within the limited scope of what he excels at and what makes him a standout WR. For a visual representation, compare Julian Edelman - MockDraftable to Hunter Renfrow - MockDraftable. Also a small disclaimer: I place an especially high value on broad jump, since I think it's a great proxy for functional athleticism within a small area. It's a big part of why I was a big fan of the Chandler Jones pick, guys with impressive broad jumps tend to be able to translate their athleticism into burst off the snap, and that's definitely a strong point for Edelman as well.

CORPS. Wide receiver corps, not "core."

You seem to be on a mission to clean up the grammar here. Good luck in your quest.

Sorry to go off topic, but I saw the news the other day and the police put a parrot in custody for warning drug dealers that the police were coming. I thought of you when I heard that.

I'm saying his improvement will be very minor compared to other prospects.
Bob, what are you basing this on? Did you say the same about Bruschi back in the day? It makes no sense.

Where'd you get that 6.55M number from? Miguel has us at 13.13M..

Apparently I was reading old info. My bad. 13m is a much healthier cap situation. Still not sure if BB wants to add 7m for Rudolph though. Most likely he'd want to tear up that contract.

In my opinion, BB long ago de-emphasized the draft as a team building tool probably, because he's always picking late and rookies are rookies. Over the past years he's placed a bigger emphasis on building with veterans, acquiring them through free agency and by trading picks. By time the draft comes around, he usually has a roster he could start the season with if needed and therefore has less urgency to pick any specific player, which is why he has made so many WTF picks, taking gambles on players with perceived upside (e.g. Easley, Tate, Ras-I, etc, etc) and specific skills (Wilson, Richards, Williams, etc) to see if they will work. As fans, we get frustrated with this approach on draft day, including myself, but can't complain about the overall results.

He's become George Allen light in regards to the draft (BB still retains some value in the draft while Allen completely abandoned it).

I think you underplay it a bit, it's more than just "some value", it's a critical part of keeping the roster young and affordable. He wants 6-8 prospects from the draft each year plus a few undrafteds, and quite a few of them end up making the team.

That's essentially my point, though we may be interpreting "some value" differently. To rephrase, BB normally doesn't need rookies to contribute since he maintains a quality veteran roster. If they do, so much the better.

In all honesty, if TB keeps playing at a championship level until he’s 45. There is no need to draft a qb this year.

You never heard of Damien Harris? That explains a lot.
In ALL of the conversations and posts that I've read was the name damien Harris ever come up

If they were to add Rudolph, they'd likely give him an extension and rework his deal...

PFK, you are wrong about Harris. This is a great pick and by about week 8 you will see why.
It's funny but you are such a smart level headed poster but every few years the draft turns you in to mentally insane human being ;)
