TE's WILL be drafted, in fact probably 2. Just none of the 3 you mentioned.
why are we acting like we need a franchise TE in 2019 and we does BB need to draft one in rounds 1 or 2? Kittle was a 5th round pick, Kelce a 3rd round pick.

Matt Mulligan

I thought Fant was going too 15 and Hockenson was late first. Did he really slide up that high or did I just reverse the two?

hock top 15
fant top 25
smith MAY be available at 32

I hear Scott Chandler is making a return

6'8" and 262 lbs Zack Gentry of Michigan is being overlooked. Has blacking skills

"I reran the 40 today," Gentry told reporters after Pro Day concluded. "There were teams that had me in the 4.6 to 4.7's and that's where I was at today. I think I was in the low 4.6 to 4.7's.

Here is good and bad

Route Running -Shows effective understanding of how to press vertical releases up the field and create favorable throwing windows against zone defenders. Likable mobility at the top of hard angles. Predominantly a seam threat but has ran flat routes as a check-down option.

Hands -Comfortable extending for the ball and showcases a great catch radius thanks to size and long arms. Concentration as defenders flash across his face is typically quite strong, although had a terrible showing against Ohio State (2018), suffering several poor drops.

Versatility -Predominantly a seam threat but variation of routes and contested catch ability over the middle make him a valuable move piece option. Lack of hand in dirt skills will impact reps in a negative way but receiving skills are catered well to today's NFL.

Contested Catch Ability -Will bring high point skills to the table and is capable of elevating over trailing linebackers to pluck the football out of the air. Lean frame can get bumped out of position after elevating and flashing the hands, would like a little more anticipation of looming contact.

Run After Catch Ability -Creates modest opportunities, does well to get up the field and can provide just a touch of wiggle to force a missed challenge and step out of a late challenge. Has a fair amount of straight line speed but won't win flat out foot races against defensive backs.

Power at POA -Does not play with a lot of "oomph" along the line of scrimmage. More of a complimentary pass protector instead of a player who will be uprooting the line of scrimmage or collapsing down the edge to be an asset in the run game.

Competitive Toughness -Plays through contact effectively on vertical route releases up the field and shows good contact balance at the top of route stems to sustain play speed. Effort level is just fine as a blocker but natural power is never going to be an asset.

Flexibility -Likable ability to drop the hips and gear down after pressing hard up the field. Offers plenty of mobility through the core to get his numbers back around to the football. Optimizes catch radius with high mobility through the shoulders.

Balance -Free mover who handles getting rubbed on routes quite well. Blocking posture puts too much weight forward in efforts to try to compensate for a lean lower half and will spin off of blocks, will be challenged to improve without compromising receiving abilities.

Football Intelligence -Can't help but really appreciate the receiving nuance he offers to create space for himself and his feel for breaking off of stems to locate the football. Natural feel for working behind linebackers and is comfortable reaching up to extend for the football despite traffic.

How about another BB blindsider?
5th round pick on Zion Williamson.

Yes I mentioned it on a different thread some time ago. But if it was on another thread since then or prior to two weeks ago, I stand corrected. I also added Gentry in a prelim. mock as a third day pick.
Sorry to have offended.

Thanks for the info. Seems like an interesting prospect, but some questions first.

1. None of the highlights show his blocking. The summary of his strengths mentions that he wasn't really a "hands in the dirt" kind of TE. How does that square with him being an effective in line blocker.

2. He's not very thick.. Seems like more of a WR boday than a TE. How big is he, and will he have to put in a year or two in development to get that 2 way TE body?

3. What were his combine times. 40 and 3cone.

4. Where in the draft is he expected to go?

He is so tall he looks slender. Gentry, meanwhile, is a likely mid-round pick after catching 32 passes for 514 yards last season.

3. What were his combine times. 40 and 3cone. (see below) No info on pro day
Combine was mediocre.
Vertical jump: 29.5 inches — 16th percentile

Broad jump: 110 inches — 21st percentile

3-cone drill: 7.4 seconds —17th percentile

4. Where in the draft is he expected to go?
Third day , possible day two

Blocking is decent. He is a converted QB. Still learning TE but was impressive at Michigan,
Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has been very happy to see the growth of his tight end.

“He’s progressing really well,” Harbaugh said. “To have everything you want from a tight end — being able to block, being able to catch, being able to gain separation, make the tough catch, he has the big catch radius. In-line blocking, in space blocking. He’s got the speed that you like to see, the athleticism you like to see.”

His pass blocking has above average in every game since the Notre Dame game, per PFF, with his best game of the season coming against Maryland.

The offensive linemen he blocks alongside have noticed the difference.

“His knowledge of the game has really gone up,” junior offensive guard Ben Bredeson said. “Also, his blocking. With the mental side of it, if they give us a strange look out there, he’s able to communicate with the tackles and figure out what needs to get done.”

Gentry said the area where he feels like he’s gotten better is hand catching, which is only natural as he’s made the transition to the position from quarterback.

He redid all of his numbers on his pro day (40's from 4.9 to 4.6-4.7

.Zach Gentry’s pro day numbers were better than NFL Combine performance

Seems the Pats do well with converted QB's. The kid can catch and came from a high tier program.

man...just two weeks ago we were all day dreaming of a line up of:
Gordon - Edelman - MartyB - Gronk - ODdell

how time changes this so quickly

you have never nor will you ever offend me...you are a true character. Sometimes I think you're a few hundred miles southwest of Albuquerque but you at least have the fortitude to stick by what you say. THIS I used to take for granted, but not THESE days.

DraftBible / NFLDraftScout.com has the following:
- Average blocker that struggles to get off the bump and run coverage

- 40 time was a SLOW 4.9 3-cone - 7.4 Shuttle - 4.53

- listed to be a UDFA

Red Flag: (IMHO) Stated that Twitter criticism bothered him and deleted his account

If he can't take Twitter criticism, how the hell would he deal with Belichick or Scarneccia..

There's a method to BB's criticism lacking in most Twitter criticism .

If people want to look at a converted QB at TE, then I think that Dax Raymond later in the draft or as a UDFA might be better.. But that's just me..

If you can't handle nobodies spewing stupidity, how can you handle a coach swearing at you for screwing up?
