LOL, I SAID IT! The Giants signing OBJ a year ago was a sunk cost and there was a good chance he was dealt..... WHERE ARE THE MOFOS disagreed with me? JK.

A lot of cynical replies in this thread.

I love this for Cleveland. Very aggressive move.

I'm rooting for them to sign Earl Thomas too. Thomas is a game-changing talent, without a doubt one of the most impactful defensive players in the league. If they finalize an agreement with him, this team is a force to be reckoned with on both sides of the ball.

The talent gap between the Browns and the rest of the AFCN is HUGE. They really turned it around in one short year. We need to secure the first seed to avoid seeing them or KC before the championship game. The stars aligned so perfectly for them. It is pretty remarkable.

They’ve put themselves in position to compete for the division, that’s for sure. I wouldn’t be printing up playoff tix just yet, though. Lots can happen. Mayfield could end up being a 8-8 or 9-7 guy very easily. We still don’t know how long Hunt will be suspended for. We have no idea how Freddie freaking Kitchens will look in his rookie year of head coaching.

If all you needed was OBJ, some key pieces on defense, and a nice ass RB, the Giants would’ve been lights out last year, and maybe other years, too. They’re putting a lot of big egos in that locker room, which just seems like a very Cleveland thing to do.

I’m guessing that they’ll all be beating on each other to some degree, minus Cincinnati. The Browns may end up earning a postseason berth, but I’m not sure that they’ve earned the right to be considered the 3rd best team in the AFC, either. At this point in time, I’d compare them to a team like the Colts, and that’s being generous.

Grew up a Browns fans before the AFC came into prominence, they are my first.. on paper they seem to have turned the corner on paper..

But from paper to the field to execution and to winning a lot of games is something completely different.. they have "collected a lot of talent", but will remain realistic until I see what they can do in the season..

With this much talent there is a need to take manage everybody's ego, which we will see if they have the aptitude for..

You do not think the Browns can take down the Steelers\Ravens\Bengals?

Sure, but they’re probably not going to steamroll any of them, aside from maybe Cincy. Pittsburgh and Baltimore are going to show up, too. Like the AFC South, those teams have a habit of canceling each other out to some extent. These are hard fought, tough divisional matchups. Maybe they go 4-2 in the division and end up at 10-6 with a playoff berth. Just not sure they’re a clear cut 3rd best team in the AFC, that’s all.

I think the Browns have made nice strides on paper, now we’ll have to see if they’re the real deal or not. Jacksonville finally has an actual QB. Houston won the division, and Indy made the postseason. You also have LA, and we’re likely to see a contender come out of nowhere like maybe TEN, or even DEN. You never know. Mayfield could be erratic. He could take a step backwards, or even get hurt. That’s why they play the games.

I know that winning the superbowl didnt negate the fact that the passing game was atrocious. To think thst it proved otherwise is drinking fat kool aid
So yeah you don’t understand.
Drinking the koolaid means to be manipulated into believing in false hope, duped into a lie. Ie Jim Jones, drink the koolaid and all will be wonderful, but the koolaid was poison.
It’s literally impossible to “drink the koolaid” about a team that wins the Sb.

By he way the passing game was 8th in the nfl in an offense that was #4 in scoring and then mounted 944 passing yards and 30 ppg in 3 playoff wins. To call that “atrocious” is ignorant.

Front 7, wide receiver, running back, tight end, quarterback. Just to name a few.
Wow. I can’t even begin to describe how much i disagree with this.

Eagles built a dream team too.

If Mayfield doesn't wet himself, the Browns could win the division by 2 games.

And with the way that division looks, they could win it with a 7-9 or 8-8 record!

They still have $54,042,665. in cap room. Add Earl Thomas to them

Grain of salt as it's La Confora reporting it, but Earl Thomas and Cleveland are in talks on a 3 year deal. Cleveland is pretty confident they can get it done.

Max Kellerman should have a comical take on this today:)

No matter how good friends ODB and Landry are. Jarvis is gone after this season. No way they will pay a WR2 that money no matter how much cap space they will have left. At some point they will have to sign all that talent they amassed through their historic reign over the top draft spots to extensions.

I'm okay passing on Beckham. With the Patriots and Brady, it's tough to predict which WR's will "get it" and which won't. The more you have to give up (and pay) for a player that hasn't proven which way he'll go yet, the more risk you have to shoulder.

Maybe he'd be like Moss and just take off right away. But the cost to bring Moss in originally was very low, and by the time we gave him a new deal he'd already proven he could thrive here. Tossing a couple 1sts and absorbing that contract would be a HUGE gamble, even if Odell didn't have character and maturity concerns.

As for our receivers next year? We need some attention, as we're only currently bringing back 1 WR that played significant snaps last year. But those bodies should come from mid level signings, draft picks, and more under the radar trades. With this system, you want several kicks at the can to see who sticks, not going all in on the big fish, IMO.

It was certainly a weakness in 2018- that's why Bill traded for Gordon. They won the SB because the other units of the team stepped up big, including the GOAT.

Yeah, next time maybe a WR will be SB MVP.
