Nope, not likely to be a good value. I'd take Beckham for a 3rd or 4th at most, and I wouldn't trade up for a 6'4" WR when the entire passing offense is based on precision, reading defenses, and being the guy that the defense didn't cover. Why spend so much on a guy that just does a couple things well when the entire team is already designed to succeed with a bunch of guys who do one thing well? Pay less and still find another guy that does at least one thing well. I'd much rather the Pats get a guy like Beckham, who has lethality in the short and long game, but I'd also not want to spend too much for Beckham himself. Get another Beckham in the draft.

I would trade up for Daniel Jones and perhaps any other QB that catches my eye (just Jones for now), and I'd consider moving up for the right defender.

It's very valid ... more than one way to skin a cat.
The year we had that awesome passing game with Randy Moss we did not win it.
It's a great tool to have ... but it's not a huge need ... it's a need as are all other units.
Perhaps it's me ... I just tire of the huge need arguments every year.
Like all those huge stretch the field arguments that used to pop up every year.

We did win this year without that game breaker WR ... that's validity - it's history.

It's not valid.

When it comes to professional sports and personnel, "Need" almost never refers to "Must have in order to function at all", and you know that. As I've pointed out goodness only knows how many times, you don't "need" a top QB to win in the NFL. It's possible to win even with a stiff at the position. And, yet, everyone understands that you need a top QB to win in the NFL. Why? Because everyone understands what's meant by "need", except when they want to argue against the obvious but don't really have anything as an argument.

We've been going through the WR "need" issue since Moss left, and some of you still try arguing the "need is not need because exception" angle, despite BB's efforts, year after year after year, to get that middle deep threat to open things up.

That's one way of looking at it. Another way is that Belichick is content to have replaceable talent as the deep threats in the offense.

So, is BB unable to find his guy for the past 8 years, or is he perhaps not looking for what you think he's looking for?

Given BB's actions, such as the gamble for Gordon, it's pretty clear that the "another way" argument doesn't hold water.

Gordon was a young talent that was had for a 5th rounder. Sure, it was a gamble, but it could've been a great value. You think that implies he heavily values the position? I still see that as evidence for my point.

I'll grant you that, but can we agree that the Pats NEED to find a move tight end to replace Aaron Hernandez before Gronk retires?

j/k

AJ Brown or Deebo Samuel with our Bears 2nd round pick if they fall. Not that I don't want Metcalf but he is not falling to the 2nd round and we have much bigger needs with our 32nd pick (DL or Daniel Jones for me personally).

I'd be a big fan of a Brown selection. That dude is a beast. Catches everything in sight, and he's a legit RB after the catch.
