Schefter Rumor: QB Josh Rosen “could be” traded?

I could see how some people could use anti-semitism against Rosen, but I actually didn't make the connection for quite some time that he's even Jewish (I guess the name should have given it away, but I wasn't even putting two and two together; sometimes I'm not very bright). Maybe I'm wrong, but he gives off vibes of having a weird, passive aggressive attitude. I've never come away from reading one of his interviews without feeling uneasy about him as the face of the franchise. I could be dead wrong, but the fact that so many other people have picked up on it makes me think it's more than anti-semitism.

I disliked Rosen's game after watching him multiple times in college -- he's a very good pocket passer, but not in the way that Brady is, because Brady can move and doesn't panic. Rosen is not great in the face of pressure. He processes too slowly. Additionally, he just had a terrible rookie year by any metric, so I feel justified in my coolness toward him as a prospect.

Yes, I get that you can't always judge a player early, but all the things I was concerned about in college have only been amplified in the pros. If he were released and we picked him up for the minimum, then fine. But to trade anything for him at this point would irritate me. He is a very clean, accurate thrower when there's no pressure in his face. I don't like his lack of awareness against blitzers, though, and I don't think a 55% completion rate and more INTs than TDs is all that exciting.

Fair. I really respect your opinion, by the way. I admit I didn't watch a lot of the Cardinals this year either, so maybe he did reveal himself as a fraud. I just thought he was the best QB peospect last year and would have a hard time passing on him for a 2nd or something.

I just remember a lot of "Josh isn't hungry, he doesn't love the game, he's not a leader" takes that either explicitly or implicitly mentioned him being a rich tennis playing kid who never faced adversity and was clearly just in it for the money (you can almost see someone flicking their nose knowingly as they wrote that). His coaches and teammates at UCLA pretty stringently disagreed, but that was still the narrative.

Rosen stinks. Being a qb is more than having a good arm.

Can’t evaulate a guy off one game, but based off the Cards Packers game I watched, I dunno if this kid has it. His numbers for the year are really bad.
They were very similar to darnolds.

Thanks!

I was probably too harsh on Rosen, honestly. I'm going through some of his games again and watching with a more objective eye, and he's got some good things going for him. Some very nicely placed passes. If he's kept clean he looks like a Jugs machine, but I just wish that he didn't turtle against pressure so often. I also dislike how he either checks down well short of the first down marker, or tends to launch it deep. My opinion is warming slightly, although I wasn't as impressed during the season. So tough to get away from biases, but he may still turn things around.

I don't have much use for the hot takes about his background. Football players come from all sorts of backgrounds; I don't care or discriminate when I'm watching the games, although for the draft I do pay attention to some off field concerns. I get confidence, but I didn't like Rosen's "there were nine mistakes" comments after the draft. It seems unnecessary and disrespectful to those guys. Going in the top ten is incredible accomplishment on its own. How many hundreds of eligible players each year never even get drafted? I just prefer some gratitude, I guess, but I'm old fashioned (and I know it).

Rosen doesn't excite me, but I never saw enough of his college game to get the hype.

When it comes to the future at QB, though, the Pats would be well advised not to let the perfect become the enemy of good.

Someone lived in Hampton Roads at some point...
Salem High school baby!

Highly doubt he takes Murray. He looks like a midget by the way. Very small "5'11".

And how many lives does Steve Kiem have? Is he the new Ted Thompson?

Probably more like 5 9 or 5 10

I can't take any article seriously that uses "beg the question" wrong, as the WP article does.
I ****ing hate that. I wrote to Bill Reynolds when he used it wrongly few years ago.

He was so nice in his reply that it made me feel even jerkier than I usually do.

They were very similar to darnolds.

There's not one category I can see where Rosen is better and some there are significant differences.

One example Y/A 6.92 - 5.80 where Darnold is closer to Brady than Rosen. Darnold had positive TD/INT; Rosen was negative. Passing rating 77.6 - 66.7; 2865 yds - 2278.

I agree neither was a top 20 QB, but one was bad and the other horrific.

Why would the cards give up Rosen for anything less than a first?

I really like rosen’s Skill. He had a horrible o line and should never have played that early in his career.

Put him on our bench for a year or two and he will be better than jimmy g was last year when he does wind up starting.

I would give Arizona a second and third this year and a second next year for Rosen!

A high first round pick doesn't suddenly lose a round of value because Patriots fans are keen on a pennies on the dollar deal.

Given where the Pats pick, you're probably looking at multiple picks.

An example of anti-short people bias. See Randy Newman.

I said similar. I didn’t say better.
Quibbling over whether bad at 57.7% complete is better than 55.2% is silly. Bad is bad.
Int % was identical.
Bad and slightly worse are similar in my book. The difference between the 2 is minuscule really.

They arent trading him. This report is based upon a comment Kingsbury made as a competing hc in October.

Patjew doesn’t register on the jerky spectrum.
