Eliminating the kickoff - NFL can't be serious can they?

How about this.....let’s return every rule back to how the rules were in 1978.

Cool

At the next football party do I need to wear a leisure suit or a sweater vest?

I can bring Mr. Pibb and a jello salad.

Maybe I'll come early and we can play pong.

I've always questioned the NFLs claim that more concussions happen on Kick-offs and on Punt Returns than on any other plays in the game. They've never actually provided any hard evidence for the claim and I've not seen any reporter actually question them on this.

Bingo.

Yet another red herring by the NFL. Make it appear they are addressing safety with a bunch of lies. Has anyone noticed a trend of Patriots players being injured/ concussed more often on kickoffs and punts than any other given play? Certainly not. Like everything the NFL does, this is some kind of purposeful deceit by Ginger and co.

Players today are bigger, faster, smarter, stronger then players in 1978.

Take the players of today, and put them with the rules of 1978 and players will die on the field.

I know that's a hard concept for you to understand from the rocking chair on your porch, but trust me, after you finish your prune juice and take a nap, you'll forget all about this conversation.
I see you woke up stupid yet again today. It’s obvious you lack the ability to grasp any logic. I wasn’t comparing players ability there spanky, I’m saying today’s rules are wussifying the game..wuss, there’s a word you should understand. When they get to the point where they can only tackle by the belly button, what’s the point. Love your age assumption, typical when you got nothing else.

Dress however you want Stretch....but next time Flowers gets pushed to the ground near a QB and his pinky brushes the QBs toe and the flag flies......while you are cursing that the drive is extensed, look down at your jello salad and smile!

C.Patterson is a Patriot now. Get Rid Of It!

People won't boycott. Plain and simple. They want the distraction. Been that way since the Romans built the Colosseum for the Christians vs Lions. Keep the masses entertained.
Just like a drug!;)

while you're at it bring back the 1978 dad bod atheletes that ran a 40 yard dash in 7 seconds.

Another TFB1K tie-in.... so sick of those...

We need new reaction icons for posts like this.

This video provides the concussion rates on kickoffs (1 in 157 plays) vs. non-Kickoffs (1 in every 241 plays), discusses the "Schiano proposal" of the 4th and 15, along with the quantifying the odds of success that would result from 4th and 15 (about 15%, triple the success rate of a non-surprise onsides kick). It makes some good points, though I'd prefer the KO remain. It also has some Cordarelle Patterson discussion!

All the insults on both sides flying around aside, his post was responsive to yours. His point is that with today’s athletes, bringing back 70s rules would be dangerous. Agree or disagree, it’s a logical response.

Pandell's Box...the uber-moron took over the greatest sports league in history and has mutated it beyond the point of no return. This will keep mutating. Entropy.

bring back the 70's rules and give the 70's players the same access to HGH and training regimens 365 days a year and you'll see the same performance. You trying to tell me Mean Joe Greene wouldn't be able to play today? Stanley Morgan couldn't play today?

chasa is an ageist bigot...been down this road before.

I’m not talking about the quality or the condition of the players! The QB is one of 11 players on the field on offense. Let them get hit and tackled same as everyone else. Anyone who says they are ok with the protection rules is either a liar, or a liar....you pick!!!

The qb still gets hit and tackled. It’s worse for them too since they are sitting ducks back there. They don’t call roughing the passer like they did earlier in the year. But to be selfish a little, I’m ok with the rules if it means We can lengthen Brady’s career a little.

Probably on the same spot as where the kickoff would have been if you had chosen to kick off. So normally your own 35.

You dont make it and its curtains.

A 52 yard field goal from the 35.

Need to have a system that discourages all the penalties on KO and Punts.

If the kicking team commits a penalty the receiving team gets 1 extra down to use in that drive only.

If the receiving team commits a penalty they lose 1 down in the 1st series. Moreover, the team with the least total penalties receives the ball first if the game goes to OT.

I think the point is the training (and other stuff). Nobody’s saying they weren’t great athletes, just different standards.

It’s sort of how models looked then as opposed to now.

uh...I think THAT is what I posted. This is what I reacted to---->

Players today are bigger, faster, smarter, stronger then players in 1978.Bigger? Ted Hendricks was a 6'7" LB for Miami. Remember him"Just one of thousands of examples. Smarter? SMARTER?????? Absolutely ridiculous and total BS.

Take the players of today, and put them with the rules of 1978 and players will die on the field.Take the players of that era, give them the training regimens, supplements and sports technology of today and the SAME EXACT THING can be expected.

I know that's a hard concept for you to understand from the rocking chair on your porch, but trust me, after you finish your prune juice and take a nap, you'll forget all about this conversation.THIS piece of ageist excrement is pure ,unadulterated, completely moronic bigotry.
